Chapter 64: Mind Games
NIKI'S POV
I saw Andy's car pull up in front of the store and I ran out, jumping into his arms.
"Niki, oh my god." He said, hugging me tightly as I sobbed into his shoulder.
"I-I'm so worried about Legacy."
"Come on, let's get home. We'll call the police and try to figure this shit out." I nodded and he carried me to the car. He placed me in the passenger seat and went around to the driver's side, climbing in. We made the drive back home and walked up to the front door to see a note taped to it.
I have your baby. Meet me at the bus stop.
The note was made from cut up magazine and newspaper letters, like a ransom note.
"This is probably fucking Juliet." Andy mumlbed, pulling out his phone and dialing 911. We got into the car and he drove as he talked to the dispatcher. We got to the bus stop and Andy jumped out.
"No one's here!" He exclaimed, kicking the bus stop pole.
"Wait, I hear something, shut up." I said. I heard a baby crying and Andy and I looked high and low before I found the source of the crying.
"It's just a fucking recorder." I sighed.
"OH MY FUCKING GOD!" Andy screamed, ripping the recorder out of my hands and throwing it to the ground, smashing it into multiple pieces.
"Wait." I said as I note floated off of the recorder.
Ha! I'm really at the beach. Hurry!
"That fucking bitch." Andy said as we jumped into the car. We quickly drove to the beach and searched what seemed like the whole beach before I saw a small figure on the sand.
I ran up to it to see it was just a toy baby. I pulled off the note that was taped to it.
Go back to your neighborhood!
We got into the car and drove back to our neighborhood. By the point, the cops were on the lookout for Juliet.
"She's not even fucking reative." Andy grumbled as we got out of the car. I scanned one side of the street and Andy did the other.
"OH MY GOD!" He exclaimed as I saw him run a bit. He reached down and picked something up. "GOD DAMNIT!"
"What?" I asked, walking over to him.
"I found Legacy's blanket but with nothing inside." I sighed and took the blanket from him, inhaling Legacy's scent that still covered the blanket. Andy's mom had made a blanket for each kid. This one was pink with her initials engraved in one of the corners.
L.A.B.
"I just want my baby back!" I cried.
"We'll find her, I promise." Andy said, holding me close. I read the note which led us to the next destination, only to give us false hope. We spent the whole day running all over town, until we got the final note.
The bridge. Hurry. Time is almost up.
We arrived to see Juliet sitting on the hood of her car, Legacy's stroller sitting next to her.
"Andy!" Juliet exclaimed.
"Woman." Andy snarled.
