122: The One Where Toni Drops Out

CHERYL POV:

"Toni!" I tap her shoulder. "What?" She looks up from my neck. "V-." I get interrupted by Veronica opening the car door. "Do you guys have to fuck in the car?" She ask frustrated. "We didn't get to that part. You interrupting us stopped us." Toni tells V. "Whatever. School starts in 10 and Toni you're probably gonna get kicked out soon for being here." Veronica slams the door. We both start laughing. "Meet me at my trailer? 7 pm?" She ask buttoning her flannel. "Fangs is out with Kevin tonight." She smiles. She gets off me. "I'll bring Pop's." I kiss her. "See you tonight." I get out of the car and start walking into the school. "Hey!" I look back at Toni. "What?" She shakes her head. "I'll see you tonight." I smile. "I'll see you tonight." Mr. Honey starts walking out. "Go!" She gets in her car and drives off. Toni dropped out at the end of last year. "Blossom!" I look at Mr. Honey. "Yes." I smile. "Tell Topaz that next time she's on school property I'm calling the police." I nod. "Of course." I go into school.

"Toni?" She looks at me. "Yeah?" She smiles. "You should go back to school." I sit up. She looks down at her beer. "I can't." She whispers. "Why?" She shakes her head. "I need to take care of my brother." She looks at me. "He's not even here." I rub her cheek. "Why?" I ask quietly. "Why what?" I take her hand. "Why did you drop out? Actually." I ask. She shakes her head holding back tears. "Toni!" I insist. "After my mom died. I was busy with Tommy and my grades obviously went down. I'm not going to college. What's the point of going to school?" I look down. "So you can get an actual job." I suggest. She drinks her beer. "What happened with your mom?" I ask quietly. "She died after having Tommy." She takes a deep breath. "My dad obviously left the second he found out she was pregnant." I pull her into a hug. She just cries into me. "Fangs has been helping me take care of him." She whispers. I can tell the alcohol is starting to effect her. I take the beer out of her hands. "I'm not going back." She whisper. "Can you consider?" She looks at me. "I can't." She whispers. Fangs walks in with Tommy. "Sorry to ruin your date." He smiles. "Umm Cheryl. Your mom was at Pop's she came drunk and the police took her away." I look down. "Fucking hell." I sigh. "I'm sorry." He whispers. "Not your fault." Toni stands up. "I have to go to the bathroom." She stumbles to the bathroom. We hear her fall. "Fuck!" Fangs walks over and hands me Tommy. "I'll check on her." I smile. "Hey buddy."

The car door opens. "Again?" Veronica ask quietly. "Honey is coming." Toni jumps off of me and gets in the front. "See you at 7." I button my pants and jump out. Toni throws my bag out the window and drives off. I smile. "Neither of you have said it, have you?" I look at V. "Fuck off." We talk into the school. "Is Toni coming back?" She ask quietly. "Nah." I open my locker. "She should try to finish her senior year." I look at the raven-haired girl. "I argued that!" I slam my locker. "She's not ok." I look down. "No shit!" I insist. "She needs therapy." I whisper. "Her drinking has gotten worse. Fangs is spending more time taking care of her brother than she is." I look at Veronica. "Or rehab." She whispers.

"Toni." I sit on her bed. "Toni, Fangs let me in."  She looks at me. "I'm sorry." She whispers. "About what baby?" I ask quietly. "That I haven't told you how much you mean to me." She whispers. "I'm fucked up and you stay no matter what. And and you shouldn't." She tells me. "I love you." She sits up. "Toni." I smile. "I love you too." I pull her into a kiss. "That's what I was gonna say the other day." She whispers. "I was thinking about seeing my therapist again." She smiles. "That's good!" I rub her thigh. "What about school?" I ask quietly. She shakes her head. "Not anytime soon." She whispers. I rub her cheek.
