I'm making a second book because I'm not allowed to go past 200 pages on one book
The next book is up
CHERYL POV:
I walk out the house and see Toni, I think she's getting ready to run. "What are you doing? It's almost 1 am!" I ask quietly. "Trying to stay sober." She says. I nod. "You've been sober for a year." I say. She nods. "Yeah! And I came really close to relapsing last night." She says quietly. I look at her. "What?!" She sighs. "I didn't!" She says walking over to me. "I was really tempted last night, but I called my sponsor and we talked, that's why I was home late." She explains putting her hands on my shoulder. "You know, you're not in the right gear for a run." I say quietly. "What?" She ask looking at what she's wearing. "Toni, you're in ripped skinny jeans and a leather jacket. You're also wearing combat boots." I say quietly. "How about we go inside and talk. Yeah?" She nods.
TONI POV:
I look at Cheryl and I sit down on the couch. "What's wrong?" She ask quietly. "I feel like a burden." I say standing up. "You're not." She says quietly. "Yeah, but we can't have kids because I'll fuck everything up! We can't get married because I used it all our money on alcohol! I've messed up our life as a happy family!" She looks at me. "We just started to get back to normal. I don't want to have everything fucked up!" I explain. She nods pulling me into a kiss. "I love you with all my heart! You've been sober for long enough to not fuck everything up completely." I look at her. "I almost relapsed last night." She looks at me. "I know, but you didn't! You called your sponsor and you didn't drink!" I take a deep breath and sit down. "I ruined my relationship with my dad." I whisper. "You went to go see him?" I nod. "That's why I almost relapsed. I went to see him, to try and fix everything that happened and it just made everything! And I mean everything worse." I whisper. "What happened in the first place?" She ask quietly. "After my mom died, I started drinking. He had been sober for a few years and, I was stupid and dangled a beer in his face and I made him relapsed. And don't look at me and try to tell me I didn't! I did!" She sits next to me. "Cheryl, I don't want to talk about it." I say quietly. "I'm sorry. It's to much." She nods. "Do you want to just go to bed?" She ask quietly. "Yeah!" I say standing up and going up to our bedroom. I sit down on the bed. "How was that work thing? I forgot to ask." She smiles straddling me. "It was good! We got another kid out of a horrible situation." I smile. "That's good." I smile pulling her into a kiss. She nods. "What happens to the kids after you get them out of their home situation?" I ask quietly. "Well, we try to find family and if we can't do that, we try to find them someone who will take them in." I nod. "What if we adopted a kid?" I ask quietly. "Toni... we talked about this." I nod. "2 years sober. Right." I whisper. "You said you yourself, you've been struggling not to relapse." She explains. "Can we talk about it at least? Maybe it will help!" She nods. "But maybe it won't you never know!" I look down. "It might make everything worse! I've seen what stress does to you." I nod. "I'm different now!" I whisper. "But you're right." She smiles. "I'm not saying it again." She kisses me and lies down next to me. I lie down next to her. "I love you." I whisper. She smiles. "I love you too." She kisses me. "Do you think you'll ever be ready?" She ask quietly. I shake my head. "This is gonna sound stupid but, it's not as pleasurable sober." She smiles. "Fair enough. If and when you're ready, I'm here. I'm not trying to pressure you, but I'm gonna ask every once in a while just to remind you that it's an option. Ok?" I nod. "Yeah." I whisper barely audible. "We have Veronica's birthday tomorrow." I groan. "This will be a real test
I get into my truck and take a deep breath. "Do we have to take your truck?" Cheryl ask quietly. "Yes." I say quietly. "Why?" She ask quietly. "Because! I like it." I smile. "At least it's not your bike." We both laugh. "The party is at Archie's." I nod.
"How's sobriety working out for you?" Fangs ask sitting next to me in the porch stairs. "It sucks!" I whisper. "I almost broke my sobriety the other day." He looks at me. "Wait really?" I nod. "I didn't though! I called my sponsor and we talked and eat more pancakes and fries than anyone could imagine." He smiles. "What's going on with you and Cheryl? I know you guys kinda fell apart a while ago." I nod. "She let me move back in around March." I explain. "I'm sorry I missed the wedding." I say quietly. He smiles. "It's ok! You were in rehab! I understand." I look at him. "How long have you been sober?" He ask quietly. "A little bit over a year." I say taking a deep breath. "Well, congrats." He smiles. "Can I ask you something?" He nods. "I'm gonna need to job soon." I say quietly. "Tomorrow is my last day at my stupid job at the comic book store and Cheryl's gonna kill me if I don't get one soon. I know you work with recovering alcoholics." He nods. "And I used to work in my moms shop! I can fix cars! I rebuilt my truck!" I explain. "Calm down!" He smiles. "Come by the shop sometime tomorrow and I'll see what I can do." I smile. "Thank you." I tell him. He nods. "Hey, have you thought about going back to college?" He ask quietly. I look down. "No, not yet." I say quietly. "I'm trying to get my feet in the ground still." He nods. "Of course." He smiles. I look up at the sky. "It's snowing." I smile. I reach my hand out and feet the snow land on my hand. "How's the anxiety?" He ask quietly. "Fully medicated, after AA meetings which is already one therapy session, I go see my sponsor and than my actual therapist. It's just a lot of talking about my feelings and not in a good way." I explain. "And than I come home from work or meetings and all Cheryl wants to talk about is us. I don't have a problem with that because I like talking about us be we really need that honesty." I say quietly. "Anything else?" He ask quietly. "Not really." I say. "It's cold, I'm gonna head back in before I lose a finger." I say standing up. We walk back into house. I find Cheryl and sit next to her. "Better?" She ask quietly. "I want to go home." I whisper. She looks at me. "I can get a ride if you want to go home." She says moving some hair out of my face. "I don't want to do that to you." I say quietly. "Hey, Josie?" She calls out. "Can I get a ride home after this?" Josie nods. "Of course." Cheryl looks at me. "See? You can go home if you need to." I sigh. "You sure?" She nods. "There's a lot of temptations here. It's ok!" I nod. She kisses me. "I'm gonna stop at Pops first. I'm hungry and there's nothing here for me to eat. I also want something besides Pepsi." I say getting up. "No coffee!" She reminds me. I nod. "Yeah!" I say quietly.
I walk into Pops. "Hey Toni, what can I do for you?" Pop Tate ask as I sit down at the counter. "Some Pancakes and a milkshake." I say grabbing my wallet. "It's on the house!" I look at him. "No! I can't do that." He nods. "Veronica said that next time you came in here that she'll pay as long as you don't order half the menu. After Jughead you and your sponsor are our best customers. You deserve to not have to pay for a few meals every once in a while." I smile. "Thanks. I'm still going to tip you." He smiles. "That's ok. How many pancakes?" He ask. "The usual, 4. And can I have some bacon on the side? Smelling all the food is making me hungrier than I thought I was." I ask quietly. "Of course. What kind of milkshake?" He ask quietly. "Ah... surprise me! Just not Strawberry! I deal with enough strawberry and cherry flavored things with Cheryl!" He smiles.
I walk into the house. I put my keys and jacket on the counter next to the door. I walk into the kitchen, go into the fridge and try to find a beer. "Oh shit." I whisper standing straight. I close the fridge and go upstairs. I don't even take off my shoes, I just lie down on the bed and fall asleep.
"You ok?" Cheryl ask as I walk into the kitchen. "Yeah! Just had a long night." I say quietly. "Have you tried taking a bath?" She ask quietly. I shake my head. "No, I hate baths, but I would like some coffee!" I smile. "Toni, if you drink coffee your meds are practically useless." I sigh. "Oh! But I can drink an entire thing of soda, which has caffeine which in coffee?" I ask slightly pissed. She sighs. "I'm sorry." I shrug. "It's fine! I just miss it." She nods. "I know." She whispers. "It's ok." I say quietly. "I'm gonna go talk to Fangs. He might be able to get me a new job."
