TONI POV:

"Mom! I can watch herd for a hour or two!" I insist. Mom looks at me. "Last time you were left alone with Ruby you threw a party!" She gets mad. "What if something happened to her that night?" She ask quietly. "You almost got alcohol poisoning!" She says quietly. "I know it's been hard for you since your dad died, but you're not the only one hurting." I look down. "What does me throwing a party have to do with dad?" I ask pisses almost. "An excuse for drinking your life away." I take a deep breath. "Who did you hire?" I ask quietly. "That Blossom girl. Just note, you can go out if you want to you don't have to stay." Mom fixes her making. "Ch-Cheryl Bl-Blos-som?" I ask nervously. "Mom! She's the hottest girl in my school! I have to do homework." I say the last part. "Well, you have to learn self control so this will be a good learning experience for you."  There's a knock on the door. I go and open it. "Hi." Cheryl smiles. "Hey." I grin leaning against the door. "Are you gonna let me in?" She ask quietly. "Hey." I smile. "Well?" I nod. "Hey." I wink at her. I feel two hands on my shoulder. "Cheryl! Come in." Mom pushes me away. "Hey." I sit down on the couch. "Ow!" I stand up and see one of Ruby's doll. "God damnit!" I get frustrated. I move the doll and sit back down. I look at Cheryl. "Hey." I check her out. "You're not my type." She whispers before sitting next to me. "Ruby get down here!"

"So what caused your mother to get a babysitter?" Cheryl ask walking into the living room. "Remember that blow out party last year? It was the one that beat yours." I ask quietly. "Yeah." She whispers. "That was here." I whisper almost embarrassed. "That was you?" I nod. She starts to sit in my dad's chair. "You can't sit there!" I say awkwardly. "That was my dad's chair." I whisper. "No one has sat there since he died." I say. She smiles and sits next to me. "I'm sorry about your dad." She whispers. I shrug. "It's hard sometimes, but I manage." I whisper. "How's Ruby taking it?" She ask quietly. "She didn't really know a world with him." I whisper. "She thinks he was this idol. I loved him but he has demons." I say playing with my ring. "You don't need to hear about my problems." I get up and walk go to the kitchen. "Want anything?" I ask. "Water." I grab her some water and go back in. "You can talk to me." She whispers. "No! I'm good." I whisper. "You play basketball. Right?" I nod. "Yeah." I whisper. "I saw how good you are." She whispers. "Yeah." I smile. "You and Jason used to play together. Because you the girls weren't good enough to practice with." She smiles. "Yeah. He was good." I whisper. "How is he?" I ask quietly. She looks down. "Sorry. I forgot." I whisper. "He was a good kid." I say.

"Ruby it's time to go to bed." Cheryl smiles. "Is that your girlfriend?" She ask quietly. "No." I smile. "But isn't the girl you used to have a massive crush on so you hung out with her brother who's now dead?" I stop and look at Cheryl. "That's not important! Go to sleep!" I get mad.

"I'm sorry about her." I whisper. "She has no filter." I tell her sitting down next to her. "It's ok." She smiles. "She was dropped on her head, as a kid. I think. I don't know!" I say awkwardly. "What happened to your dad?" She ask quietly. "He was bipolar, he got fired from his job, some other stuff happened and it's really not my story to tell." I get up and pace around. "I'm sorry, I just don't like talking about it." I tell her. "Do you want to go on a date?" She ask quietly. "I thought you were straight?" I look at her. "What gave you that idea?" She questions. "You making out with Reggie, at my party." I whisper. She smiles and gets up. "I wasn't honest with anyone or myself." She walks over to me. "I get it. It's been 3 years since I came out, my mom still hasn't really processed that I'm into girls. She's ok with it! But she's still trying to figure out what to say without being offensive, she tries." I whisper. She looks down. "I'm guessing your parents aren't ok with your sexuality." She shakes her head. "My mom she kicked me out. I've been living with my Nana for a few months now." Cheryl says quietly. "I'm sorry about that." I step closer. I look down at her lips. "So that date?" I nod. I pull her into a kiss. She kisses back. I slowly pulls away. I take her phone and put my number in. "Call me when you're ready." I smile. "I'm gonna head to bed." I whisper. "Ruby might be up in like ten minutes. She will just need water and to use the bathroom. She doesn't really need any help, she knows what cups she can use she just needs help getting the water, there is a water pitcher thing in the fridge if it's low just fill it up when you're done. She can use the bathroom on her own you just need to remind her to wash her hands before." I explain to her. "I'll be in my room doing homework if you need anything." I walk upstairs to my room. "Mommy?" I stop. "It's me, Ru." I say quietly. "Where is mommy?" She ask quietly. "She's on a date." I whisper. "With daddy?" I walk into her room. "Sweetheart, daddy's gone. He's not coming back." I tell her. "Get some sleep. You have a big day tomorrow." I whisper. "What are we doing?" She smiles. I think for a second. "Do you want to go to the beach?" I ask quietly. She nods. "Ok! Well, we'll go to the beach. Get some ice cream or something." I smile. "Go to to sleep!" I insist. "I need water." She gets up. "Cheryl is downstairs if you need help." She goes downstairs. I take a deep breath and go into my room. I sit down at my desk, I see the picture of my dad and I.

I take a deep breath. "Antoinette! Look!" I look at Ruby. She's the only person who calls me by my full name. "What?" I smile. She shows me a crab. "His name is Sophia." I look at her confused. "Wha- why Sophia?" I ask quietly. "Because no one is stopping me." I hand her a bucket. "Give me the crab, but some water in this and we'll watch him for a bit, but we have to put him back at the end so he can be with his family." She nods and hands me the crab, she goes to the water and gets some water. Once she comes back we put some sand in it. "Be gentle." I whisper as she put the crab in the water. "What?" She smiles. "Nothing." I kiss the top of her head. "Are you dating Cheryl?" She ask quietly. "What do you mean?" I ask quietly. "Well she was here this morning when I got up and I know that people are dating they like live together and stuff." She smiles. "We aren't dating. It was late and she didn't feel like driving home." I lie. We had sex last night. We aren't dating but I do have a date with her tonight.

FLASHBACK:

There is a knock on my door. "I'm going to sleep! Just give me a minute." I get startled. "It's me." The door slowly opens. "You're mom is home and in bed." Cheryl walks in. I stand up and kiss her.

"That was an experience." I whisper. "Yeah." Cheryl nods. "Was that you're first?" She ask quietly. "Yeah you?" I ask. "With a girl." I nod. "So that date?" I ask quietly. "Tomorrow night?" I looks her. "Yeah." She smiles. "I'll pick you up."

END OF FLASHBACK:

"Do you have a date with her?" Ruby smiles. "Yeah."

I hand Cheryl a piece of pizza. "I'm sorry this isn't much." I whisper. "It's ok. It's probably better." She smiles. "I sent a little too much on my sister today. I don't have much money. Not saying my family is struggling! I'm just to lazy to get a job and my mom does so much for me, I felt weird asking my mom for a lot of money so I didn't want to ask for more today. This all I could afford." I whisper. She smiles. "It's sweet." We sit down. "You care about your sister." She whispers. "Yeah." I smile. "She needs a role model. Like my mom is great but, she doesn't really want to admit my dad died so she keeps telling Ruby he's coming back and I have to keep telling her she's not. It's weird. I know."
