New Year Secrets Revealed

Maya Hart and Riley Matthews were at the apartment in Greenwich Village busy keeping the six year old August busy.
Maya and Riley didn't actually know what else to do.
It was New Years Eve tonight and everyone was going to be there.
All Riley and Maya's friends, Cory, Topanga, Auggie and another someone.
Maya was just colouring with Auggie while Riley was on her phone.
The door opened and Riley's eyes widened.

"Don't look behind you," Riley said and Maya remember when she last said that.
"Why?" Maya asked.
"What I want to know as well," Josh said and Maya's heart stood still.

She turned around to face Josh and sigh.
It hasn't been awhile since they saw each other and Maya has changed a lot since then.

"Boing! What you doing here?" Maya asked using her nickname for Josh.
"Didn't my brother tell you?" Josh asked as he sat down next to her.
"I'm gonna be here for awhile. Or at least tonight. I'm not quite sure. Hey Auggie. What you doing?" Josh asked.

Maya stood up and walked over to the kitchen.
She wanted to get her distance so Josh couldn't hear her heartbeat.
Her heart was racing and she knew it wasn't completely right.
She always acted strange when Josh was there.
But why now?
She likes Lucas.
But maybe she doesn't.
She looks at Josh and Auggie colouring then Cory comes.

"Already stolen? Welcome Josh," Cory said.
"Thanks. How come your daughter didn't know I'm coming? This entire thing was your idea," Josh said.
"WHAT!" Riley said and Maya went blank for a second.

She knew why Josh was brought here.
And she knows that it wasn't completely for the reason they are going to think for.
Maya sees Topanga coming in with a few bags of groceries and helps her.
She takes a few of the bags and put them on the counter.
Josh looked at how Maya was just helping Topanga in the kitchen for awhile.
He was surprised at how much she had changed.
It wasn't very much since he last saw her but definitely a bit.

"When are the guys coming? I have a few new friends," Riley said.
"Are they surviving her?" Josh asked as he looked at Maya.
"Barely," Maya said and smiled.
"Yeah like I thought. No offence Riley. But I don't even think Lucas would be able to cope with you. Maya is the only one who is..."
"Lucas is Maya's boyfriend actually," Riley said and Josh froze.

Josh's pov

I knew this day would come.
When I heard Maya wasn't single anymore.
But Lucas Friar?
I didn't think that would be true.

Maya took a clothe and threw it at Riley.

"What was that for?" Riley asked.
"What was that for? Stop lying, will ya?" Maya said.
"Didn't know you and Friar are dating," Josh said.
"We're not. You can calm down. There is nothing between me and Lucas," Maya said.
"Oh."

It was a bit later the afternoon and most of the kids were at the bakery.
Josh decided to join Maya and Riley and see what is going on.

"Uncle Josh this is Zay. This is my uncle, Josh," Riley said.
"Welcome or congratulations that you kept up with my niece."
"Yeah. I think it's actually Maya who keeps up with your niece," Zay said.
"Where is Maya?" Farkle asked.
"She's... She was at the counter. Strange," Riley said.
"What's strange?" Maya asked.
"Where were you?" Farkle asked.
"My mom called," Maya said.
"Everything okay?" Josh asked.
"Yeah it seems like it. Nothing is wrong which I know of. But who knows? With Katy Hart anything is possible," Maya said.
