The Lady and the Genius.

Hello.

(River p.o.v)
I walked into the pub and once I was seen by my dorm mate she let out a shout.
"River! You made it!"
"Of course. Couldn't miss your party J."
"Come over and meet my team!"

(Spencer p.o.v)

I walked into the pub Jj said was where her little party was. I saw Derek and once he saw me he waved me over. Once I got to them I noticed everyone was missing.
"Are we early?"
"No they are all meeting Jjs friend. Who is quite the party girl." He told.
"I wouldn't have thought that. So which once is she?"
He pointed towards the girl and was very curious about her and without thinking I was profiling her. What surprised me was not even after a full two minutes she became stiff and tensed and looked to her sides to see no one.
'Odd.'
"Yo Jj! The pretty boy has arrived!"
Jj looked and gave a wave which I returned. Derek got me a Malibu sunset and when I began to drink Jj came over with everyone. Someone sat next to me and Jj was obviously buzzed.
"Spencer. This is my friend she is the one who is a dr and went through the academy when she was 15-16 and also becoming a doctor at the same time it was crazy."
I began to drink when I turned to look at the girl next to me only to inhale some of my drink.
"Oh wow don't die. It'll be awkward for me if you die as soon as you met me."
'Jesus Christ River is Jj friend as well.'
"Pretty boy is silent."
"No, I was just shocked to see you looked young."
"Speak for yourself, your what close to 30?"
"Accurate. Your close in age as well I assume."
"Oh pretty boy is also a genius." She said which made me smile.
"Spencer is so smart. But River omg she retains information like a walking vault as well."
"Is that so River." Aaron said in disbelief
"Oh yes very. I was born with a photographic memory. There is another more scientific name for it but you know...."
"Big tough word." We both said at once which made everyone look at us.
"Is one of your talents mind reading powers cause that would be dope!" She asked to cover up what just happened.
"No it is not. I could tell your not really someone who likes saying big words from when I was profiling you earlier." I told knowing my mistake as soon as I said it.
I was slapped again by her which just shocked everyone even more.
"Do not profile me Dr.Reid or you will get more then a slap from me."
"Yeah I got that from you doing it more then once."
"Hold up you two have met before?"Emily asked
"Of course. He came by my place with Garcia to find out about the poem killer. I was who worked out he was a she."
"She seems quite talented."
"Thank you agent Rossi."
"Please call me David for tonight. When you work with us tomorrow is when the last name will be used."
"Oh how fancy. But J was not lying about me being smart my IQ is one of the best if I'm being modest."
"Pretty boy may have you beat."
'Boy aren't they going to be surprised.'
"Oh really. What's your IQ then Dr.Cute?"
"187."
"Oh wow that's really good. Not good enough though." She told before taking a swig from her drink.
"Come on pretty girl gotta spill." Morgan told making me feel a little uneasy.
"I don't wanna say."
"We are all friends here girl. We won't judge when Spencer shows you up in IQ."
"Not a big show up by a 2 point difference."
"Oh I am putting 20 on Spencer." Penelope told.
"As much as I love you Spence I gotta go with my girl. 20 bucks on River."
"I'm going with my baby girl on this one. 20 on pretty boy." Derek told which made me smirk. "Aaron, David and Emily. You better put some money down."
"I'm not making bets on who is smarter." David told
"I'll put 5 on River. I have faith in the new girl."
"Thank you Aaron." She told.
"I'm going to put 5 on Spencer." Emily told.
"Alright people...."
"Hold up. I'm going to put 20 on River. Just to play nice." I told.
"Now River. Spill and tell how smart you are."
"My IQ is 189. Boom!" She told which shocked everyone.
"I like this girl. But I'm still upset with you Spencer. Why couldn't dr come join?"
"She has her own party to go to."
"Ooo who's this dr. She cute?" River asked.
"She is very cute but we are just friends."
"Apparently her last SO was a little crazy." Derek told and I could tell River was getting nervous from having to think of Mike.
"We shouldn't be talking about her like this. It's not a favourite thing of hers." I told as I rested by hand under the table to help calm her.
"Oh you know what one of my favourite things is. Bruce Campbell omg that man is so god damn Groovy!"
"Oh no." Jj said.
"What is going on?"
"Whenever River doesn't enjoy a topic or needs help calming her nerves she goes straight for Bruce Campbell."
"That man is smoking and so what if I use my love for him as a way to avoid topics. First you wanna kill me...."
"Now you wanna kiss me! Blow!" We both continued.
"This is scary." Derek told.
"As long as she doesn't start asking people about one thing we are fine."
"I want a puppy."
"River you live by yourself now."
"Still doesn't mean I want you to make up for all the time you told me no."
"We lived in dorms we couldn't get one."
"Fine I'll ask something who will hopefully say yes." River told before turning to me and began her Bambi eyes. "Can I get a puppy Spencer."
Before I could answer another song came on and Penelope got excited.
"Oh Derek we gotta go dance."
"Alright baby girl let's go dance." He told.
'Thank god I was going to say yes.'
Everyone ended up joining them leaving me and River at the booth.
"I didn't know you were friends with Jj."
"Yeah."
"You know if I had known you were coming here I would have offered to drive you." I told.
"Oh you sweet summer child who thinks I'm cute. I took an cab so we can head back to the apartments whenever your ready I'll leave about 10 minutes after you." She told making me smile as we shared a knowing look.
"I'm fine... I'm fine. I don't think so. We just cut up our girlfriend with a chainsaw. Does that sound fine?" We both said making us smile and chuckle.
River suddenly tensed up and I could tell it was because she could feel someone was watching her. We both began to look around quickly to see it was just the team seeing us bond.
'I'm glad it was just them.'
"It seems they really like the idea of us becoming close." I told as I looked down at my drink.
"But we shouldn't. Could risk them finding out, this isn't the first time we met." She told as I could tell she gotten upset but I knew she was trying to hide it.
"Do you know what one of the reasons I like hanging out with you is?"
"Well there are multiple reasons. I'm stunning, I'm smort, I make the best coffees yet never worked in a coffee shop, I am your favourite dr and bookshop owner. The list can go on."
"All of the above but it's because with you I can be my full self. We can talk about references, books and go on ramblings about odd stuff and you never get me to be quite about it once. Hell the first time we went and saw that Korean film and it wasn't dubbed you still let me translate it for you even though I know you can speak it."
"Because I know what it's like to feel isolated. I mean me and J are friends but she can't fully understand how I think where I can understand how she thinks and what words she is possibly going to say. But with you I don't feel isolated since I know you'll understand what I'm going through."
We talked about a few other things before she tilted her head at my drink.
"Can I try some?"
"Sure. As long as I can try your drink."
"Deal. And I promise I ain't got no colds or anything bad." She told before grabbing my drink to try some as I did the same.

(No one p.o.v)

As the rest of the team watched River and Spencer bond they were shocked to see them swap drinks to try the others.
"I don't I have ever seen Spencer share his drink with anyone." Derek told as he couldn't help but stare.
"Jj what type of girl do you know to get that effect on Spencer?" Penelope asked
"I'm just as confused as you all."

(Back to Spencer.)

"Ok how about this one. The boy...."
"Friday the 13th. Alice says that."
"Nice one doctor. Ok hit me with one."
"Ok. I have shed my tears for Brom....and yet my heart is not broken. Do you think me wicked?"
"Sleepy hallow by Katrina Van Tassel."
"Very good." I told as we gave each other a fist bump to signal we were done with the game.
The others came back to the table and River looked at her watch.
"Oh my it is so late. I should get going but I will see you all again tomorrow. So long and fair well everyone." Rivers told as she got up and left.
'I wonder how far she will wait for me to quickly pick her up.'
"So Spence. You and River were having fun."
"We were getting to know each other over our mutual knowledge of horror movie quotes."
"So how is the dr, Spencer?" Derek asked.
"She says she is doing fine but I can tell she isn't. Another brick was thrown through her window about a week ago."
"She ok?"
"Yeah she quickly jumped out of the way and I stayed till the cops showed and had her stay the night at mine. Sadly since no one saw the identity of the person who threw it there was nothing we could do." I told as I looked at my nearly glass of water.
"Why didn't you tell us this stuff was happing to her Spencer?" Emily asked.
"Because I only found out how bad it was recently. I have no clue how to help her. She gets letter taped to her door but I have no idea what they say since she won't show me. I know she keeps them hidden somewhere in her place but I don't want to snoop. I'm terrified whenever we have to go someplace else and she might need me but I can't get to her. She means so much to me and Mike is a prick for cheating on her and slapping her when she decided to leave him because he though she was cheating on him and that's why she wanted out of the relationship. And I shouldn't have said any of that and she is going to kill me once she knows I told you guys." I told before placing my head on the table.
"Kid lift your head and look at me." Aaron told which I followed.
"You care for this girl so much and you say you two are friends. The way we all saw you talking about her and how worried you got just shows that you have feelings for her but are scared to tell her. If she is as great as you say she is then she will forgive you." He told which made me smile.
"Thanks guys. I should head off since I also want to make sure R...dr is ok."
"We were so close to her name!" Derek shouted as he was upset about what happened.
"You guys will get her name when you finally get to meet her if I ever let that happen." I told before getting up and leaving.
I walked outside and made my way to where River was relaxing and obviously was reading something on her phone.
"Fancy seeing you here Dr.Finley." I told as I neared her.
"Fancy seeing you as well Dr.Reid."
I offered my arm and she accepted it as we walked to my car that was parked across the street. Once we got in we made our way back to the apartments where River decided to walk with me back to mine but wouldn't come in.
"You know I'm glad I was invited to tonight." She told with a smile on her face.
"So am I. We were able to spend time being friends and the team is non the wiser that you are Dr." I told as I rested in the doorway of my place.
"That is true. Well goodnight Dr.Reid." She told as she slowly began to make her way back to her place.
"Goodnight Dr.Finley."
I was about to close the door when she turned around and called my name.
"Spence."
"Yeah?"
"Now....um....well I had a few drinks but not to make me stone cold drunk but enough to get me to have courage. So I'm going to what's left of my liquid courage that I have for this one thing." She told as she walked back towards me.
"What is the one thing?"
"Well after it happens we are to never speak of it again. Treat it like Vegas. What happens tonight stays here tonight."
"River I promise it will be ok." I told as she was a step away from me.
"Please Spence. Do you promise that we treat what is said or done right now as Las Vegas?"
I gave a confused nod to her. She took a deep breath and before I could say anything she shocked me. She grabbed my face and pulled it towards hers as our lips met. I was stunned and didn't know what to do. Just as quick as it started she pulled away and looked into my eyes as we tried to catch our breaths.
"Well I'll see you tomorrow Spencer. Hope you have a goodnight." She told before rushing back down to hers.
"Wait River!" I said a little too late when I heard her door shut.
'She likes me. Like actually likes me more then a friend.... and I didn't do anything to show her that I felt the same when she did. I'm going to talk to her about it when I can. She actually likes me.'

(River p.o.v)

I leaned against my door still trying to work out why I just did what I did.
"Oh god I kissed Spencer Reid."
