The Lady and the Genius.

So bored!

I was holding a bored look on my face as I questioned my choices leading up to here... in this bank... where it got robbed.
'Maybe I should have brought the clowns and not make him think I did.... but that is a waste of money and I can not handle Grace questioning why I want six ugly looking clowns to shoot at.... maybe she should take more holidays.'
I looked up towards the camera in the corner over the door before looking towards the reflection in the window.
'Interesting.'
I began to tap my knee hoping they got it to Spencer since I definitely knew he would know Morse code.
'Please work.'

(Spencer p.o.v)

"She is tapping her knee. It's odd." Penelope told
"She's what?!" Jj asked
"Tapping her knee."
I quickly went over to her and began to follow the tapping.
"It's Morse code. She must have figured we couldn't get any sound." I told
"Oh she is so cleaver." Penelope said as Jj went searching for a notepad and pen for me.
Once Jj found them, she grabbed them and handed it to me. I could see she was shaking and I was trying so hard not to do the same.
"She will get out of this. She is strong Jj." I told
"No I know."
"She is doing good. Staying very calm which must be taking a lot of work to do." Penelope told
"She making sure the kids are safe as well." Jj told.
I quickly began to work out what she was saying to us and got Penelope to call Morgan.

"Hey baby girl, your on speaker. You got any information?"
"Ok so, River started to use Morse code to communicate to us and Spencer has worked it out." She told
"What is she saying?" Prentiss asked
"We are all fine. No victims. The one watching is the sub of the two. 22." I read as I tried to stay calm.
"22?" Hotch asked
"Most likely the number of hostages." Jj spoke.
"How she looking?" Rossi asked
"She is staying calm." I told
"She looks extremely bored though when she isn't trying to distract the kids to make them less scared." Jj explained.
"That's because she was in a hostage situation for 5 hours with the man who killed her mother when she was 8." Hotch told making us freeze.
"She was?" We all asked
"She didn't want any of you to know. She told me since we have a meeting every week to talk about her past. It was part of her agreement of joining." He explained.
"If they find out she is FBI then she could be killed." Penelope told as she tried to hold her tears back and Jj grabbed ahold of her hand.
"She doesn't like carrying it with her if she doesn't." I told
"But she's meant to carry it with her at all times....." Jj began only for Morgan to cut her off.
"Probably to do with the fact that her father was a cop."
"Also because of Sniper being FBI as well." Hotch added.
"Sniper is fbi?" We all asked minus Rossi this time.
"Yes."
"Shouldn't we let him know then? Shouldn't we let her whole family know?" Penelope asked
"If we tell Sniper that River is a hostage then it could become worse." Rossi explained.
"I mean we all love her but it would be too risky if he showed up.... if any of her family showed up." Prentiss told
"I gotta get back there." I told
"Spencer if you leave that room then River can't communicate with us." Morgan told
"Wait hold up!" Penelope told
"What's happening?" Rossi asked
"She is tapping again." Jj told as I grabbed the pen again.
I began to quickly write down her taps before she quickly stopped and I figured out what she was saying.
"Spence.... what is she saying?" Jj asked
"Don't shoot when doors open." I told
"Don't shoot? What does she mean don't shoot?" Morgan asked
"Maybe that." Penelope told.
We looked towards the screen that was playing the news to see River was leading the children out but was standing in the way where they couldn't hit the unsub.
"What is she doing?" Penelope asked
"She must have made a deal with them. Use her as a shield so they don't shoot, that way the kids can get out and be safe." I told.
'Please River be safe.'

(River p.o.v)

Whenever I wasn't making sure the children weren't scared I held a bored look on my face as I zoned out from everything.
"Hey you."
"Yes?"
"Everyone is freaking out, yet you aren't. Why?"
"Because if we listen to your orders then we will be fine. This isn't my first hostage situation."
"You've been in a bank robbery before?"
"No. My father held a gun towards me for five hours because I was a hostage by the man who killed my mother. This doesn't compare to that."
"What's your name?"
"River Finley."
"You got any loved ones?"
"I have people who consider me their family. I also have four biological cousins who don't speak to me unless they need something from me other then that my family is dead."
"They care for you?"
"Of course. They no doubt will care for you as well."
"They won't. If I had people who cared for me I wouldn't be here."
"What's the best way to show people your worth caring for? Show them by letting some hostages go." I told as I began to use my Bambi eyes.
"How? We can't let any of you go or else they will kill us."
"The kids."
"The kids?"
"Yeah. They are on a field trip that's why they are here. If you let them go with their teacher then they won't hurt you. And everyone else in the bank will stay here I'll make sure of that. Please do you want them to feel the same pain you did when you were a kid?"
"No. No I don't. But are you sure they will not shoot us when we do?"
"Of course. If you guys still don't trust them, then use me as a barrier. They won't risk shooting me just to get to you."
"How do you know?"
"Because my father was a cop. It's why we were at a standstill for 5 hours because he couldn't shoot me just to kill the man who killed my mother. They don't risk shooting if a hostage is in the way."
"Ok." He told before walking away to where the dom of the two were.
'Please work. Please work. Please work.'
He soon came back with his buddy and told me to stand up. I got up and placed my hands in the air to show I wasn't going to attack.
"All of you. Up now!" The dom told as he pointed his hun towards them.
"Hey listen to the guy here everyone. Let's play a game of Simon Says." I told in my most gentlest voice.
"What are you doing?" He asked
"I'm just making them less scared. Cases show that instead of a fight or flight reflexes kicking in freezing on the spot happens, and kids often freeze under situations like these or school shootings. Getting them to play a game like Simon Says will help them relax from the fear enough to get them to out of here." I told as I tried to not make him want to shoot me.
"How do you know this?" He asked
"I could lie but your holding a gun towards me and those never work out well." I told making him pull the release back a bit. "Because I have multiple doctorates and one of them is in psychology."
"If you try anything I will shoot you."
"And I believe you. Now shall we get the children out of here to help you guys have a better chance to escape?" I asked as I began to tap my hand so they knew not to shoot.
"Why are you tapping your hand?" He asked
"I suffer from panic attacks and a technique I was taught was to tap my palm till I'm calm. Sometimes if I feel one is about to happen I began to tap my palm to hopefully stop it before it happens."
"Tell them." He told.
'Oh fuck that worked.'
"Ok kids. Simon says stand up." I told as I gave them all a smile.
They all stood up and I gave them a nod.
"That's good. Now Simon says everyone get into a straight line."
They followed the instructions making me smile toward them before turning back toward the dom and sub.
"They are ready to be led out now." I told
"Come on then." He told as he began to walk off.
"Ok kids. Simon says follow me." I told as I followed after him.
They all followed me along with the teacher to make sure no kids were left behind. Once we got to the doors he gave me a nod, making me turn around and crouch down to their level.
"Ok kids. This one is a tough one. Do you all think you can be strong and brave enough to do it?"
They all gave a nod and I gave them the kind smile I haven't stopped giving them.
"Ok. Simon says, leave the bank and once you are reunited with your family's, you give them the biggest hug you can give and tell them you love them so much. Can you all do that?"
They all gave a nod which I returned before standing up and opening the doors for them all. I stood in front of the man so there was no risk of them shooting him which I knew was upsetting everyone. Once the last kid left I looked up and saw Aaron and Rossi looking towards me questioning what I was doing. I gave them a small smile and a small nod, before walking back inside and headed back to where I was sitting before.
'At least the kids are safe and out of harm.'
