The Lady and the Genius.

Why are these days slow.

I was working away in the bookshop as Jade came up with a worried look.
"What's wrong Jade?"
"Well my sister is pregnant and she was told that she was having twins."
"That's good news isn't it?"
"It is. But I'm worried that things might go wrong. She's set to give birth in January."
"Jade everything will be fine. You can take the day off if you like."
"No no it's fine. Organising the books will help calm me down." She told
"You sure?"
"Perfectly fine."
"If at any time it changes you can come and tell me and just go."
"You know you are the best boss I could ever have."
"Well I do try." I told as I gave her a small wink.
The bell to my shop rang and we looked to see David walk in.
"David!" I exclaimed as I rushed over to give him a hug
"Hello il mio piccolo genio."
"So what do I owe the pleasure?" I asked once I pulled away
"I wanted to see how you were going and I wanted to see the shop."
"Well welcome."
"River is this one of your coworkers?" Jade asked
"Yes! David meet Jade, Jade this is David Rossi." I told
"Oh my god your the famous author!" She exclaimed
"I am. It's nice to finally meet you." He told as he shook her hand
"It's nice to finally meet you as well. I'm a fan but my sister is a bigger one then me."
"He's always looking for another wife." I joked making him give me a look which only resulted in a laugh. "Would you like coffee David?"
"I would love one of your coffees River."
"Make yourself at home."
I went to make him a coffee and when it was done he came walking in with Jade.
"You have a lovely shop il mio piccolo genio."
"Thank you David that means a lot."
"Wait is David your father River? I thought you said your father was dead?" Jade questioned making us look over at her.
"You know Italian?" David asked
"Oh yeah my grandma was Italian." She told with a small smile
"You learn something new everyday." I told before going back to her questions. "He isn't my father Jade. Though to be honest I'm pretty sure he's adopted me as such."
"That is true I have." He told accepting the coffee and having some of it. "River your coffee is always the best."
"Why thank you."
"Wanna tell me how?"
"But then the magic is ruined David."
"I'll figure it out one day."
The bell rang again and Jade went to answer it only to hear her let out a squeal.
"Spencer!" We heard her exclaimed
"Seems the boyfriend had the same idea." David joked making me chuckle.
"Is River here?"
"She's in the back with her father."
We heard footsteps and Spencer came walking in with a confused look till he saw David.
"Oh that makes more sense."
"I see everyone finished early today." I told
"Actually we are heading off for a case." Spencer told as he came over to my side
"David why didn't you tell me?!"
"You offered coffee." He told making me shake my head at him.
"My my. Well I'll grab my bag and then we can head to the apartments for our things."
"You don't have to come River." Spencer told
"It's been a slow two weeks Spencer. Might as well go and solve a case." I told as I grabbed my bag and walked out with them to see Jade clean the desk.
She looked up at us and smiled.
"Going on another case?"
"Yeah. I have a sign that you can put up if you need to go home early that says family emergency. Please do not be afraid to use it." I told
"I won't."
I gave her a quick hug before leaving with them.
