george found himself pacing through the shelves of the library,
paying no mind to the books but to the pounding of his head.
"give it up, mate. it's obvious she hates you,"
ron warned with a light chuckle.
george stopped for a split second,
only to smack ron in the back of his head,
then continued his pacing.
"here, how's this,"
fred began as he pushed himself off the bookshelf where he had been resting against,
"we throw a party. nothing serious, just loud enough to catch her attention. eh? cause who can deny a weasley twin party?"
"okay, but you're forgetting y/n isn't much of a partier."
"right, but what you're forgetting, my annoyingly lovesick twin brother, is that her best friend is."
george chuckled and nodded his head,
"you're right."
"so, what? we're just gonna tell hannah abott to force y/n to come to this party against her own will?"
"it won't be. hannah will just...convince her. right, georgie?"
"right you are, freddie."
***
george felt himself floating on air as he walked around the corridors.
hannah agreed to bring y/n,
and george knew his plan was sure to work.
whether he was going to tell y/n of his love for her or not was unsure,
but one thing for sure was that they were going to bond.
george could see it now.
she'd lay her head on his shoulder while the party died down around them,
and she'd hold him close and sigh contently.
"you're a great man, george. i trust you with my whole heart."
the image sent shivers down his spine.
imagining y/n trusting him and loving him all in one was much too euphoric for george to contain.
he laughed and whooped loudly throughout the hallway,
riding out this high.unfortunately for george,
y/n arrived with hannah abott on one arm and marcus belby on the other.
looking at the sight of his arm linked with hers flickered a sense of jealously in him.
he could break every single one of marcus' fingers right now and have no remorse.
make no mistake,
george had always gotten along with marcus.
they were somewhat of friends.
but if he had to choose between their acquaintance and y/n,
well the choice is obvious.
"tough, isn't it?"
ron sighed and sat next to george on the steps,
eyeing a timid y/n half smile alongside marcus.
"something of the sort."
"don't worry. marcus is a total wanker. give it about..i say two days."
george couldn't help but chuckle.
y/n wouldn't leave marcus' side unless it was to refill her cup with firewhisky.
she looked around nervously and george could tell she was uncomfortable.
before he knew it,
he found himself walking past her with his hand carefully to the small of her back,
and whispering just softly enough for her to hear,
"you look uncomfortable. meet me outside in five and i'll show you somewhere peaceful."
she looked back at him with a look mixed with gratuity and skepticism.
he chuckled and leaned to her ear again,
"i'm not hitting on you. just offering you someplace calm."
y/n nodded and watched as george left the portrait,
but not before giving her a reassuring smile.
she then turned to look at marcus,
who knitted his eyebrows together.
"thank you for helping me with...all of this,"
she spoke with a laugh.
he nodded,
"of course. you feeling okay?"
"yeah, of course. i'm just gonna head out."
marcus nodded and slid his arm from hers,
letting her slide out of the portrait to meet george.
when she turned,
there he stood with his back to the wall and looking to the ceiling.
"ready?"
"yes."
they trailed down the steps together in silence.
george knew y/n would talk if she wanted to,
so he didn't push any conversation.
and the silence that enveloped them was rather warm,
y/n noticed.
it was easy and no where near awkward.
and suddenly,
all her anxiety ebbed away.
she felt calm.
"hey, thank you."
george turned to her voice with a smile,
"of course. parties aren't for everyone."
"definitely not."
she laughed.
george opened the doors in front of them open for
y/n.
she walked through and continued following side by side with him,
reaching the astronomy tower.
"you know i almost failed astronomy?"
y/n admitted with a giggle as they looked around.
"really? i almost failed muggle studies to be entirely honest with you."
they looked over the edge to gaze at the moon,
but y/n seemed entirely astonished by it.
george couldn't help but smile at the corner of her lips turning up into a smile,
and her eyes glistening with animation.
a completely different y/n than the one before.
and he loved it.
"so, marcus, huh?"
he teased and nudged her arm with his elbow.
she giggled and waved her arm through the air in dismissal,
"no, not at all. he's like my big brother, you know? gives me advice, comes with me to parties so i won't be uncomfortable, beats guys up for me."
"really? is that why i saw him and crabbe fighting the other day?"
"precisely. he called me a bitch and then pushed me. so, marcus did what he does best."
the two laughed together and george could feel his heart racing just from being this close to her.
the warmth from her skin radiated off of her and sent george's skin wild with chills.
"well, say the word and i'll beat crabbe senseless, too."
"you'd do that, huh?"
"oh, of course."
george could tell by her continuous string of laughter that the alcohol was settling within her.
but george had never been so entertained until seeing a drunk y/n.
"you're...wasted, aren't you?"
"maybe. alcohol eases the nerves a bit, you know?"
he nodded and tried to chuckle as quietly as he could.
"luckily for us!"
she pulled out the bottle labeled "firewhisky" from the inside of her coat and handed it to him with a grin.
"bottoms up, weasley!"y/n and george were well past drunk now,
but they were comfortable around each other and
y/n relished in this delightful company.
"you're so shy, y/n, why?"
she giggled,
"that rhymes."
the two laughed together senselessly before she shrugged,
"i don't know, though. just...happened, i guess. can't really pinpoint where it all began. but suddenly i was just uncomfortable around big crowds and hated attention."
"well, you're in luck. i'll take all the attention for you, gladly."
she snickered with a snort that made george double over in laughter.
george suddenly stopped to look at y/n in awe,
and she caught him with his gaping look.
she pulled him close and let their lips connect.
george could taste the firewhisky from her lips,
sending his body into jolts of shock.
but he had never been so welcoming of this adrenaline that coursed through him.
his hand found itself resting to her cheek,
where he could hold her close and carefully.
for two drunk teens,
the kiss was robust and coated in passion.
george didn't think he'd ever manage to pull away.
this sweetness that coated his tongue and ran his core frenzy with nerves was intoxicating.
and in this moment he had never realized how different they were from one another.
george was outgoing,
y/n preferred to keep to herself.
george thrived on attention,
y/n avoided it with everything she had.
but yet these differences in them fueled their attraction for one another,
and george had never felt more free.
