harry potter continued his normal morning routine without the slightest worry of the chattering around him.
sixth year and here he was,
yet again,
the focus of a controversy.
and as the whispers and rumors grew more intense,
more harsh,
harry flinched and thought back to that night in the graveyard.
how cold cedric's body had become.
how the life was so long gone out of his eyes.
yet his spirit remained,
just as bright as it had always been.
and though harry was forced to relive that night every time he sought to sleep,
he reminded himself that cedric's memory was forever.
it could never be ripped away.
and that's enough right?
he thought hopefully.
he inhaled a deep breath in hopes of calming his now racing heart and suddenly throbbing arm where he had been previously cut,
and made his way to class.

the first day was always the worst for y/n.
she worried about the thoughts of the others;
afraid of malevolent thoughts of the classmates around her.
y/n laughed to herself quietly as she adjusted herself in the seat,
realizing how much she was beginning to over think
yet again.
harry potter swiftly decided on the random seat next to y/n and took it,
focusing on his calloused hands and wringing them as though he was frustrated and angry.
y/n noticed his fair skin and began to wonder if it felt as soft as it looked.
dismissing the thoughts,
she inched her head to the front of the classroom and eyed the blackboard.
she noticed the twinge of mint in the air and yet again,
her eyes fell onto the source of the scent.
harry potter.
she was beginning to question herself,
wondering why these sudden thoughts were so prominent and whether she had gotten enough sleep the night before.
because that seemed to be the only reasonable explanation.

harry eyed the girl from his peripheral and noticed her curious stare.
and as he did with everyone else,
he ripped his eyes away in resentment of being the center of attention.
stupid charms class.

and as the class continued,
he couldn't help but let his eyes wander to where she sat and admire the stature of the girl.
she was quiet but her eyes were loud enough for harry to understand every thought she had.
then he realized the curious look wasn't for him,
it was for her.
she was wondering something about herself.
not wondering about him.
the realization made him chuckle wryly.
he couldn't believe himself.
not everything's about you.

as the class drew to an end,
she felt a strange urgency to talk to the boy.
to force herself into his mind.
to make an impression.
y/n turned to face him and let the kind smile pull at her lips,
"you're harry, right?"
harry was instantly stunned at the sound of her voice.
it resembled that of a gentle breeze,
a sweet angelic tune.
harry humored himself at the cheesy similes.
he nodded his head at the the question and felt vaguely relieved that she had to ask.
"and you're y/n?"
y/n was stunned to hear how eloquently her name sounded leaving harry's lips.
it was gentle and somewhat calming.
and surprising to see he had known her even though no more than the friendly gesture of a wave had been exchanged between the two.
"yeah, that's me."
"nice to finally meet you."
he nodded with a small smile.
"likewise."
she began to remember the gossip that trailed around the school,
detailing both tragedies of harry and cedric.
harry was quite known around hogwarts,
the wizarding world at that,
but such harsh conditions had been thrown at the boy at the mere age of eleven.
she cleared her throat and decided her next move,
"i know this may seem...upfront. but, would you be interested in going to hogsmeade with me this coming weekend?"
harry was taken aback by her sudden request.
after all,
hadn't she heard the rumors?
but he pushed it to the side in desperate need of a distraction and figured it would do good to relax with someone out of his current friend group.
"yeah, i'd love that."
***
the weekend rolled around,
leaving y/n bouncing with nerves as she waited for harry in the courtyard.
the boy turned the corner and laid eyes on y/n,
instantly mesmerized by her radiancy that heightened when she was both in casual muggle clothes and basking in the sunlight.
she was beautiful.
no no,
he though dismissively,
more than that.
shes...enthralling.
harry forced his currently frozen feet in front of one another,
facing y/n head on.
and somehow,
she was even more enchanting up close.
"hey, are you ready?"
she questioned with that melodic voice of hers,
her toothy smile settling every rampant thought in him.
"yeah. are you?"
she nodded and began walking towards hogsmeade,
leaving him to follow.

harry and y/n found themselves bright with laughter in the joke shop,
trying to get away with as much as possible.
"look, look,"
y/n whispered and tossed the joke egg over her shoulder,
listening to it fall against the head of a girl their age.
harry peeked over his shoulder and watched as their poor victim gasped,
the liquid trailing down her dark hair.
y/n and harry tried to stifle their giggles as she picked it up with no mess,
looking around for who the culprit was.
"stop looking she's gonna know!"
y/n warned with a gentle laugh to her sentence.
harry was quick to pull them out of the store where their laughter could be loud and could echo throughout the town with no suspicion.
harry took notice of y/n's laughter and how genial it was.
y/n, as a whole, was empyrean.
with the way his life had been recently,
he wasn't quick to dismiss the idea of hallucinations.
y/n was good company,
she was easy going and never forced a conversation out of him.
she was gentle, sweet, unselfish.
and harry liked her.
harry's face fell as he made the realization and remembered how easily danger followed him.
and he refused to drag y/n down along with him.
she was too good for this world,
and he'd be damned if she got hurt trying to help him in any way.

y/n noticed his once elated face fall and replace it with a stern, angry look.
"harry, are you okay?"
she questioned,
placing a supportive hand on his shoulder.
"i'm not good for you, y/n,"
he spoke suddenly.
she rose an eyebrow at the words and let her hand fall down his arm,
"what-why do you say that?"
"everyone i love gets hurt, y/n. i'm just...dangerous."
y/n stood still and drew her hand back for a split second,
only to seek harry's hand and lace their fingers.
"i don't care,"
she whispered just loud enough for him to hear.
he turned his burning eyes to her and felt them soften,
his suddenly dark mood brightening at her sight.
"you should."
"but i don't. i...like you, harry."
"i-i like you too."
she stepped an inch closer,
leaving harry's breathing to quicken as her potent natural aroma swirled in the air and into his lungs.
her steady breathing fanned his frozen cheeks,
leaving him intoxicated and dulling his senses.
thoughts flashed in his mind.
a life with y/n.
a life worth living.
a life worth fighting for.
harry was convinced y/n was a mythical being.
maybe those veela he read about.
she's got to be some sort of siren.
he searched for a flaw,
anything to show how human she was.
and his search concluded of nothing,
until he heard her breathing hitch.
she was just as nervous as he was.
"y/n..i won't let you get hurt."
"and i won't let you do this alone anymore."
she spoke touchingly,
that soft spot he was growing for her only deepening.
their vicinity had become closer than before,
and he was able to get lost in those eyes of hers.
though it wasn't too hard,
seeing as how deep they were.
harry could live in this moment forever and be content.
but the day only got better as she closed the space and let the cruel world around him become nonexistent,
her warm lips thawing his own.
she tasted just as sweet and she smelled,
leaving him to become weak in the knees and let his head become fuzzy.
he laid a cold hand to her cheek and smiled at her flinch of the sudden contact.
somehow,
through all this snow,
y/n had made it possible to stay warm.
once she pulled back,
harry was forced to return to earth.
he opened his eyes and listened to y/n's hard breathing,
making him chuckle.
"don't...push me away, harry. please."
harry pondered her words for a moment more and realized how strong she was.
he was underestimating her like he typically did.
she was a fighter,
and he was a protector.
leaving him no choice but to agree,
"i won't. as long as you...stick by my side."
y/n smiled and linked her arm with his,
pressing a warm kiss to his cheek.
"not a problem."

harry potter and y/n l/n's relationship was nothing short of passionate and well deserving.
they had been exactly what the other needed.
y/n provided security and comfort in harry's most troubling times.
she'd soothe him in just the right way and let him be human.
harry gave y/n a push when it came to her fears.
she'd worry and stress but harry was there to help her through it all.
it was a match made in heaven,
one might say.
and it all began when he took a random seat in his stupid charms class.
