the crashes from outside echoed in her head,
but her attention laid on the boy in front of her.
"draco.."
she exhaled softly,
looking at his terrified expression.
his heart lunged at the blood and dirt that stuck against her skin,
he had played a part in her pain.
"tell me it isn't true,"
she teared up,
the fists at her side tightening.
"i had to, y/n. i had no other choice..."
he whispered,
his knees buckling.
she rushed to his side and held him in her arms,
his sobs shaking her body.
hearing him so torn up made her physically sick.
"he was going to kill me!"
he wailed out.
she stroked his hair while he cried,
trying to figure out what to do.
"draco. this isn't you. you are not a killer."
"he'll kill my family. he'll do it!"
"draco.. you've got people out there fighting for us. you can't give in so easily,"
she whispered softly through the knot in her throat,
kissing the top of his head supportively.
they both stood on their feet,
y/n's hands wiping away at his tears.
"i'm sorry. i'm so sorry y/n,"
draco muttered,
wrapping his arms around her.
"you can make it up to me when this battle is over."
***
her body laid motionless,
all the blood draining from his face.
immediately,
he ran to her and picked her almost lifeless body in his arms.
"no... no.. baby stay with me, please!"
he begged,
watching the light in her eyes flicker in and out.
she took all the strength left in her body,
caressing his cheek as best she could.
"please... d-don't let them t-take you,"
she shuddered.
her body began to turn cold,
he knew whatever life she had in her was fading.
but he could save her.
draco picked her up and rushed her to the nurse,
begging that she help.
"i'll try, darling. but-but i'm afraid i can only do so much,"
madam pomfrey spoke,
her fingers covering her mouth in shock.
draco felt the anger flood his veins.
tightly gripping his wand,
he began to make his way throughout the doors and killing whatever deatheater crossed his path.
it was refreshing.
draco felt alive.
but that stabbing pain of losing y/n still lingered in his mind,
he knew he had a decision to make.
***
hours passed,
and the school was to the ground.
draco stood around his once classmates and hoped voldemort didn't call for him.
almost as if he had read his mind,
draco's name pierced through the air.
he had a decision to make:
go with his family or stay for y/n.
the lump formed in his throat as he stood still,
"draco, my boy? come on!"
he swallowed and took a step before feeling the familiar hand grip his shoulder.
he whipped his head around and met the eyes of y/n.
"you-you made it,"
he quivered out,
her strength barely regained.
but she pushed to make it out here for him.
"draco. stay,"
she whispered,
swallowing as best she could.
he nodded his head and met the eyes of his father,
clouded with fear and disappointment.
"choosing to stay, are we malfoy? shame..."
draco held the girl in his arms,
his heart racing at what was next to come.
but it didn't matter.
she was here,
with him.
y/n had made it.
and the choice was clear.
this is where he belonged.
***
his eyes peeled open,
the light shining in from the window.
the brightness made him flinch.
"draco, are you awake?"
y/n questioned,
soon hovering over him.
his head throbbed,
his muscles aching with pain.
"yeah,"
he muttered through the dryness in his throat,
dazed and confused.
she handed him a cup of water,
watching him sit up and take small sips.
he looked around him at the debris that remained of the school,
his classmates lying around him.
some were severely injured,
some only required a few bandages or so,
and some escaped completely unscathed.
he took notice of the cuts and bruises around y/n's body,
his memory flooding with what had happened.
y/n saw his expression change,
the worry making his face fall.
she grabbed his hand quickly,
his attention falling to her.
"we won, love. we won."
the knot formed in his throat again,
the throbbing in his brain settling.
"is he-is he gone?"
"he's gone. they're all gone."
draco threw himself towards y/n,
wrapping his arms around her.
he let the tears fall,
but tears of rejoice this time.
"i thought they killed you,"
he mumbled in the crook of her neck,
his salty tears falling on her skin.
"and leave you here without me?"
she joked around,
feeling his laugh.
she ran her hands down his back,
so grateful he stayed with her.
"i thought we lost you, draco."
"i know. and i'm sorry."
"don't be. we all know it was your fathers doing."
he pulled back and looked into the eyes of his girlfriend,
love and warmth spreading throughout his body.
"i love you."
"i love you more, draco."
she began to explain how the battle progressed after he refused to join them,
draco being knocked out by a spell which caused him to hit his head.
but in the end,
they won.
"feeling alright, malfoy?"
fred weasley questioned,
his brother right behind him as always.
"..yeah,"
he muttered,
hanging his head in embarrassment.
"cheer up now, we've rid of the dark lord!"
"yeah, draco! cheer up! we've got loads of celebrating to do, can't have you there bringing down the mood now, eh?"
fred and george cheered,
making their way through the crowds to put a smile on everyone's face.
"i thought surely they'd hate me now..."
"nobody hates you, draco. it's your family that's terrible. not you,"
y/n smiled,
instantly making draco smile with a certain tint to his cheeks.
"guess i have you to thank for keeping me good, huh?"
"i'll take some credit,"
she giggled,
feeling him draw closer to her and place their lips together.
relief flooded through his veins as they laid connected.
"we've got much to celebrate love, come on!"
y/n cheered,
carefully helping the boy rise to his feet.
although he had a slight limp,
nothing prevented him from enjoying himself that night.
finally free of his fathers reign,
he stood in the arms of the girl he loved most,
embracing life for the first time in his life.
