one thing to know about y/n and draco,
was the circumstantial difference in demeanors between the two.
draco tended to approach things harshly,
aggressively,
and knew violence was the answer.
"they'll understand when they're eating through a straw,"
he'd say through clenched teeth and knotted fists.
but y/n would run her hands down his sculpted abdomen and let her calm whispers soften that aggression in his mind.
y/n preferred to let the universe and karma work as one to pay for whoever's wrongdoings.
"you're not gonna beat her senseless for that?"
draco would ask.
"what? no. karma will get her in due time."
and she was right,
karma always worked in her favor.
whether it was ink spilling against whoever's robes in front of their crush,
or having their clothes set fire.
draco was sure y/n was the cause of these issues,
but he kept quiet.
he was rather proud of her for doing said things,
if it really was her after all.they were able to calm each other,
yet infuriate one another like no one else.
their arguments were loud and harsh,
but always ended in sincere apologies that sent y/n to tears.
their love was powerful.
scary for others,
but powerful nonetheless.currently,
y/n and draco were in an argument about y/n's sarcastic attitude that angered draco.
she found comfortable company in dean thomas,
burying her head in her hands.
"issues with loverboy, huh?"
"mhm."
"you know, y/n, i'm happy for you, i really am. i just..be careful, please?"
"be careful? about what?"
"well, i overhead pansy talking about how draco got mad at her for getting cheeky with him, and he...he hit her. like, smacked her across her face twice."
y/n sat up straight and shook her head,
"no way. draco's not-he's not abusive."
"i know! i just want you to be careful is all, okay?"
y/n nodded and swallowed the knot in her throat,
remembering the burn in draco's eyes that seemed unfamiliar to her now that she began to mull over it.
she shook it away,
knowing she was just overthinking.
she was letting rumors get to her head,
which was the biggest mistake she could make.
***
y/n trailed the corridors in silence.
her thoughts were too loud for sleep tonight.
she turned the corner and saw draco coming her way,
his anger evident and practically seeping through his pores.
"i've been looking all over for you!"
"i'm sorry. i just wanted some quiet to think."
she defended quietly,
placing her back to the wall.
he scoffed,
"think? think about what?"
"i don't know. everything."
"think about breaking up with me?"
it was her turn to scoff,
"seriously? you're not the only thing i have to worry about, draco. get over yourself."
he closed his eyes in hopes of swallowing the anger,
though it was much too prominent to reel back in now.
"y/n...your mouth is going to get you in serious trouble one day."
y/n instantly tensed up and tried to make herself smaller against the wall,
realizing how unsafe she felt right now.
for the first time in their relationship,
y/n was scared of draco.
"okay..."
she muttered,
her bottom lip throbbing from the pressure of her teeth.
"okay? seriously?! that's all?!"
draco brought his fist to the air and connected it with the wall next to y/n.
but she flinched away and brought her hands to her face,
trying to cover herself from the imaginary blow.
her body began shaking uncontrollably,
leaving draco to stare down at her defensive position.
his anger vanished instantly at the sight.
"y/n,"
he spoke softly,
coaxing her to drop her arms.
"did you think i was going to..hit you?"
the last words tasted bitter coming from his lips.
the thought of ever laying a harmful hand on y/n was revolting to draco.
he wiped the tear from her cheek with his index finger and allowed her to catch her breath,
"were you? going to hit me?"
she asked through the tremor in her tone.
he instantly shook his head,
"god, no. y/n, never."
y/n gazed into his softened eyes and felt the guilt fester inside of her.
she had been totally impractical.
"draco...i'm so sorry. i'm so so sorry."
"what are you sorry for? i should be the one apologizing for letting you think i'd ever lay a hand on you."
she found refuge in his arms,
where he held her tight to his chest.
"i let pansy's stupid rumor get in my head."
"she's still telling everyone i hit her?"
she nodded,
"i'm sorry. i shouldn't have listened at all, i don't even know why i did!"
y/n's voice was intensifying,
informing draco she was on the brink of hysteria.
he brought his cool hand to her cheek and held it,
letting his thumb caress it and calm her.
"you heard it right in the midst of us arguing. it was only natural for you to think such things. but you know now, yeah? that i would rather suffer through the worst possible situations than to ever hurt you."
she nodded in understanding and allowed draco to soothe her,
"okay. i'm sorry."
he chuckled,
"stop apologizing, would you? with all due respect, my love, it's annoying. anyways, i apologize for putting you in that situation."
draco's heart fluttered at the sight of her growing smile.
he had succeeded in reassuring her,
and there was no greater feeling than knowing so.
"i love you."
"i love you. now, come to bed, will you? i was getting lonely."
she giggled and laced her hand with his,
following him to the dorm.when y/n fell limp in draco's chest,
snoring softly while she slept peacefully,
draco couldn't help but to chuckle.
even through the worst of it,
y/n saw the good in him and allowed him to be his worst, gruesome self even if she was the most delicate being.
realizing just how lucky he was,
he decided a few things could be changed within him to better fit her.
draco closed his eyes,
knowing tomorrow was another, loving day with y/n,
and allowed her steady breathing to sing him to sleep.
