she sighed and sulked around the halls,
another saturday wasted.
the school was quite empty due to the hogsmeade trip,
and y/n had no permission slip to go.
she sat against the staircase and began to play with her shoelaces,
humming to herself.

harry, too, slowly walked around the building in an attempt to cure his boredom,
but so far nothing.
he was never really quite sure what to do when hermione and ron weren't around,
they were the sole purpose for his entertainment.
he began to walk up the stairs before seeing a girl who seemed intrigued by her shoelaces.
harry stopped and quickly examined her,
realizing she was truly a sight for sore eyes.

she looked up from her shoelaces to see harry standing,
"am i in your way?"
she asked and stood to her feet,
moving out of the way.
"no! not at all. are-are you new?"
"no,"
she snickered,
her voice silky and sweet.
"i've been going here since you have."
"you know who i am?"
"well duh. everyone knows you who are, harry potter."
"i'm sorry i've never noticed you."
"join the club,"
she shrugged,
quite used to being ignored.
but she preferred to live in the shadows.
it was peaceful that way.
"i'm y/n though. y/n l/n."
he smiled and nodded his head,
"why aren't you at hogsmeade?"
"never got my permission form signed. you?"
"same actually."
she giggled and took her seat back on the steps,
looking at all the paintings.
she half expected for harry to leave her where she was and continue on about his day,
but he couldn't leave her there alone.
he didn't want to,
for some odd reason there was an instant attraction to y/n.
"would you like to do something?"
harry suggested.
y/n tilted her head.
"really?"
"yeah. i mean...o-only if you want."
"you're not like...hanging with me to feel better about yourself, are you? cause i'm quite fine on my own."
"no! no no, not at all. i just think we both could enjoy the company. and after today if you wanna continue being on your own, then you can."
she stood back up on her feet and smiled a smile harry felt his heart lust after.
"yeah, let's go."
***
harry and y/n stood on the wooden bridge,
the wind chilling their skin as they looked over at the scenery.
y/n was truly a funny, interesting girl and harry began to wonder how he never noticed her.
"does walking across this bridge ever make you nauseous? like it'll break any moment of the day?"
harry shrugged,
"i'm sure there's some kind of spell on it to prevent it from breaking."
y/n looked back at him and laughed,
"you're right. i didn't even think of that."
"y/n, do you come from a muggle family?"
"yep."
he nodded and edged closer to her side,
their eyes still set on the horizon.
"me too...well sort of."
"i know. i heard all about your parents. it's a shame, really."
"tell me about it."
"do people mess with you about your family?"
he shrugged before answering,
"occasionally. my cousin is the main one though. makes me feel...stupid and powerless sometimes."
y/n turned her head to him,
his eyes absorbing her beauty.
"well surely you must know you're not,"
she spoke before gently moving his hair out of his face to show his scar.
the feeling of her skin against his sent chills all over his body.
"no one powerless and stupid could escape him with nothing but a scar."
"that's just it, isn't it? it's just a scar."
she smiled and pulled her hand back,
"it will only have meaning if you let it have meaning."
"what do you mean?"
"well, if you think it's just a scar then that's all it'll ever be: is just a scar. but i think if you look deeper, you'll see that it means more. means you're a fighter, a winner, and most importantly it means you've created hope for everyone."
he stumbled for words but couldn't quite figure out what to say,
he had never thought of it like that.
and the way she spoke in such a soothing tone made him feel trancelike.
"but,"
she continued,
"it is after all just a scar, right?"
she smiled and walked back into the corridors,
leaving harry to catch up with her.
they continued to walk in silence before the group of people came walking up,
"well there are your friends, harry potter. thank you for making today a little less boring."
she winked and walked past him,
her scent lingering behind.
"will i see you again?"
he called out after her.
"if you look hard enough,"
she replied and disappeared out of his view.
"who was that?"
ron asked appearing by harry's side.
"you're not gonna believe what happened today..."
***
harry searched high and low for y/n,
but couldn't find her.
almost a week had passed and he still hadn't seen her anywhere.
and no one had really known her,
but they always told him the name sounded familiar.
which led him nowhere.
"i'm starting to think you're going mad, mate. making up girls to keep you company,"
ron laughed,
making harry shake his head.
"i didn't make it up. she's real! and she-she was amazing. the most beautiful girl i've ever met. not only, but she spoke to me with such ease. and-and her voice was so gentle. she didn't talk to me as "the boy who lived" to her i was just "harry potter" and it was amazing!"
he explained and sat down in his seat,
running his hands through his hair.
"but it doesn't make sense! why i can't find her anywhere!?"
"well...she did tell you to look hard, didn't she?"
"i have been."
"have you really?"
"i-i think..."
"let's be honest harry, you're not the one for small details."
he sighed.
"who are you two talking about?"
hermione asked as she sat down with the boy's.
"some girl harry's obsessed with."
"y/n l/n,"
he answered.
"oh! you mean the girl in our astronomy class?"
harry sat up quickly,
"she's-she's in our astronomy class?"
"yeah! she sits by the front, kind of in the corner. doesn't talk much...or at all really."
"hermione why didn't you tell me this yesterday!"
"how was i supposed to know?"
"that's tough, mate. today's friday. and we're in our last class."
"thanks ron i hadn't noticed,"
harry spoke rather agitated.
***
saturday rolled around and harry sat in the common room,
bored out of his mind.
the thought of y/n still hadn't left his mind.
she was almost unreal in his eyes.
the way that someone could be that alluring, funny, understanding and gentle and not be well known.
"everyone should know her!"
he thought aloud.
then his mind trailed to his scar.
he traced it with the pad of his index finger and began to think.
it wasn't just a scar to him anymore.
it was a symbol of his surviving.
and a remembrance to his mother and father.
it made him who he was.
he walked out of the common room and searched the halls yet again for her,
finally seeing her at the stairs where they first met.
"there you are! thought i was going round the twist thinking about you!"
y/n laughed and felt her cheeks flush.
"thinking about me, were you?"
"can you blame me?"
he smiled and took a seat next to her.
"how come i never see you?"
"you don't look hard enough!"
he laughed and lowered his head,
"yeah you're right."
"but hey! at least you found me."
he tilted his head to look at her,
"yeah. i did."
"so, still just a scar huh?"
"actually no. it's not. you were right."
"i'd like to imagine so. here let me see your hand."
he held his hand out,
y/n flipping it around to see his palm.
her cold fingers on his palm sent goosebumps all throughout his body.
she traced the lines that laid in his palm and nodded,
"oh harry..harry, dear, you're destined for death!"
she mocked professor trelawney,
making him chuckle.
"don't tell me we have divinations together too?"
"that we do,"
she grinned and let go of his hand.
"i don't know how i completely overlooked you! you're so-so pretty i thought you might stand out."
"well that defeats the purpose. i don't want to stand out."
"me either."
"well come join the club then. i think i can find an opening for you somewhere,"
she giggled.
harry went silent before admitting,
"i really like you, y/n."
"do you? or am i just an enigma that you want to solve?"
her tone sounded serious,
but by the smile on her face he knew she was only bantering.
"well i'd be lying if i said you weren't someone i'd like to figure out."
she giggled.
"i like you too, harry. you're awfully kind for someone with such fame."
"only has meaning if you let it have meaning."
y/n let out a laugh,
"you're right."
the silence enveloped the two before he placed his thumb to her chin and pulled her in for a kiss.
her lips,
unlike the rest of her body,
were warm and inviting.
she was sensual and made him fill with ecstasy.
as if he was finally holding onto something he had been missing.
he pulled back and looked her in her eyes,
his cheeks burning with heat and excitement.
y/n sat there and beamed with happiness,
something she had been longing to feel since she arrived at hogwarts.
***
harry walked into astronomy class and took his seat,
instantly laying eyes on y/n.
she waved,
he could hear her golden giggle from all the way across the room.
he waved back and laughed as well,
rons eyes following his.
"blimey harry... that's her?"
"yeah. yeah, that's y/n l/n."
