the bell chimed above y/n as she pushed the door open,
signaling her entrance.
fred and george had been busy in the stock room,
their words toppling over one another in an attempt to prove their point.
but their insignificant argument came to a halt as the sounds of footsteps echoed throughout their shop.
"we're closed!"
the twins called out,
walking forward to meet their customer.
y/n stood there with a big smile,
"are you now? maybe someone should've locked the door, then."
"merlin's beard!"
george laughed and wrapped y/n in his arms,
spinning their bodies around in elation.
y/n's giggle could be heard echoing throughout the shop,
leaving fred's heart to skip a few beats.
he hadn't felt that feeling nor seen y/n ever since his departure from hogwarts.
and seeing her now awakened all those buried feelings from his school days.
it was clear to say that fred weasley was not over y/n l/n in the slightest.
george then set y/n down and she wrapped her arms around fred's torso,
snapping him from his thoughts.
"thought you might've died with the way you disappeared!"
fred laughed and hugged her close,
letting her scent cloud his senses like he had once done.
"tell me about it! i'm sorry i haven't been up here before now. mum found it best that she do the shopping for me after everything started happening, you know?"
the twins nodded in understanding.
fred folded his arms across his chest with a smile,
"glad to see you again though, y/n. always nice to see a familiar face."
"you, too."
she bumped his shoulder with her fist playfully and giggled along with the twins.
george excused himself to return to the stockpiling,
leaving fred to keep y/n company.
"so what are you doing now that you've finished hogwarts?"
fred asked as he went behind the register to count their money for the day.
"dunno. suppose i'll attend healing school, you know. only when i find the funds."
"yeah? still wanting to be a healer, huh?"
"yeah,"
y/n admitted with a low laugh.
"your mum not helping you with the cost anymore?"
"well, she gave me what she could before...you know."
he looked up from the galleons in his hand and raised an eyebrow,
"before what?"
"oh, i thought you knew. suppose ginny or someone told you."
"told me...?"
"mum died."
fred dropped the money in his hand and ran around the other end of the register to comfort her.
he wrapped her close in his arms and squeezed her,
"i'm so sorry."
"it's fine, don't worry. time will heal, you know. just spent all my money on the rent, now i'm broke and homeless."
she snickered darkly,
shaking her head in hopes of avoiding the tears.
"h-homeless?"
fred asked as he stepped back to look at her,
watching her lip quiver slightly.
"yeah...suppose it won't be for long though, don't worry. i'll find a job soon."
"stay with us, y/n. come-come live with us and work at the shop."
"oh, fred. you're too kind. but, i won't impose like that. i'll find my way, i promise.
fred held her shoulders,
forcing her to face his serious expression.
y/n had never seen him so earnest.
the way his jaw set and clenched;
the way his muscles twitched beneath the tight shirt;
the fire in his eyes,
all made y/n feel rather intimidated.
"stay."
she then nodded,
"okay. i will."
fred's solemn look melted back into his usual animated self,
leaving y/n to breathe out in relief.
he cheered at her decision and draped an arm around her,
"george! guess what?!"

y/n began working in the shop,
and she worked diligently.
she refused to let the twins down,
and she needed the money to both help the twins with rent and pay her way through class.
fred watched from afar as she wiped the back of her hand across her forehead,
then leaning over to pick up another heavy box.
"here, let me help,"
fred offered,
taking the box from her hands.
"it's fine! i got it!"
"really, y/n, ease up a bit."
as the words left his mouth,
y/n felt her shoulders relax.
"you're going to burn out, you know. just take it easy, yeah?"
she sighed and followed him back into the store, where he set the box down to begin placing the products on the shelves.
"you're right. thank you."
"not a problem, doll."
y/n turned on her feet to clean around the shop,
her cheeks burning from fred's slightly flirty comment.
y/n thought after a couple years of not seeing him,
her feelings for him would fade.
but living with fred and working with him only brought those same feelings out intensely.

fred opened the door of their flat to see y/n asleep on the couch,
the many papers spread around her.
he took a quick look to see that y/n had been working on her homework for class.
he smiled to himself before shaking her,
watching her eyes flutter open.
the sight nearly burst fred's heart.
"hey. you finally got into school, yeah?"
"only for the first quarter. still better than nothing though!"
she smiled a sleepy smile,
and fred could see the exhaustion clouding her once bright eyes.
"go sleep in my bed. i'm sure the couch isn't comfortable."
"but where will you sleep?"
"on the couch, obviously,"
he joked with a sarcastic look,
making y/n giggle.
"thank you...for everything,"
she whispered and left a lingering kiss to his cheek,
then trailed off to his bedroom.
fred's cheek went numb where her lips had laid.
