"rubbish. nothing but rubbish,"
fred whispered as professor trelawney sulked around the place.
"you don't believe any of it?"
"eh. you?"
"it's... interesting,"
y/n giggled as she looked in the inside of fred's teacup.
"let's see,"
she trailed off,
looking into the book and back into his teacup.
"seems as if you're gonna find love soon, freddie!"
"is that so? gimme that,"
fred urged,
snatching the cup out of y/n's hands.
she noticed the tint to his cheeks as she scanned the book,
shrugging.
"rubbish. it's all rubbish,"
he repeated.
"who knows? might just find her soon."
"doubt it. everyone else here is... well.."
"everyone else? mean to tell me you've got a crush!"
he sat up straight in his chair,
shaking his head.
"no, that's not what i meant."
"but you said 'everyone else', right? meaning there's someone."
"there's no one, y/n."
"mhm. whatever you say,"
she winked before folding her hands on the table,
"now what's mine say?"
"you're gonna suffer a heartbreak. but,"
he mumbled and began flipping through the pages,
"it'll blossom into something great."
y/n rose an eyebrow,
"great. so i get my heartbroken and you find love? serves me right."
"poor y/n. gonna have her heart broken seeing me with another girl, eh?"
"you wish,"
she giggled and closed her book,
rolling her eyes.
"i've seen you with plenty of girls."
"yes but this is different. the cup says so y/n. can't argue with the tea leaves."
"oh!"
y/n laughed loudly,
shaking her head.
"what happened to it being rubbish?"
fred shrugged and gathered his things,
the pair walking out onto their next class.
***
"you coming to hogsmeade this weekend?"
"i can't. never got my permission slip signed."
fred knew bits and pieces of y/n's history with her muggle parents,
so this came as no surprise to him.
"well, lucky for you,"
fred started,
"we've got the solution to your problem."
george finished.
"which is?"
y/n questioned,
laughing soft.
"the maurders map, of course!"
they said in unison,
pulling out the parchment from their pockets.
"youre not serious,"
the girl exclaimed.
"for once in our lives, yes we are."
"so come on, let's go! don't have all day."
y/n linked an arm with fred and another with george,
walking down the corridors until they reached the one eyed witch statute.
"when does it end?!"
y/n exhaled the dust,
the walk seeming endless.
"we're almost there, little y/n."
y/n laughed at the nickname fred used before they finally reached a trap door.
"alright, you go first."
they spoke to y/n,
leading her up the trapdoor and inside the stock room.
"i knew having you two idiots as best friends would pay off one day."
"awhhh y/n,"
george cooed,
fred wrapping his arm around her.
"she used the best friend word!"
soon,
they walked around zonkos joke shop,
y/n being the main victim of their pranks,
then walked in the snow to get closer to the shrieking shack.
"gives me the chills,"
y/n admitted,
messing with the fence.
"bet you won't go past the wire,"
fred baited,
watching y/n's eyes brighten.
"i'll bet you ten galleons i will."
"deal,"
george and fred nodded,
shaking both of y/n's hands.
she crawled under the wire and began walking towards the house,
the ominous feeling weighing down on her chest.
the snow covered the ground,
each step becoming steeper.
she took the wrong step,
and went tumbling down.
the hill seemed almost endless,
and she finally stopped.
the ice coated her body,
sticking to her exposed skin.
"y/n!"
fred yelled,
ducking under the barbwire to run and find her.
"uh,"
she groaned,
opening her eyes to a certain weasley hovered over her.
"are you alright? took quite the fall there."
"this place might really be haunted, freddie. the ghost pushed me,"
she spoke,
hearing both their giggles.
"good thing you're okay! thought you were knocked out,"
he spoke before pulling her up to her feet,
helping her brush the snow off her as he sighed a sight of relief.
"that would've been bad."
"very,"
fred agreed.
"thanks for coming to save me. my hero!"
y/n spoke dramatically,
putting the back of her hand to her forehead.
"what's a knight without his damsel in distress?"
he winked,
helping her back over the barbwire and into honeydukes.
"i'll get you a butterbeer. you deserve it,"
george nodded,
leaving y/n and fred alone at the table.
"i believe you owe me ten galleons, sir."
"i suppose you're right,"
he reached into his pocket,
rolling his eyes.
"only a slight problem."
"you don't have ten galleons do you?"
"look at you! so smart and beautiful."
y/n felt herself heat at the words,
looking down into her lap with a laugh.
"flattery can only get you so far, weasley. i'll be waiting on those galleons."
"soon as i get them, they're yours."
***
"hermione.. can i be honest with you about something?"
hermione looked up from her book and slammed it shut,
"if this is about you going into hogsmeade without permission, i already know."
"well-well no. it's about fred."
"fred?"
hermione questioned,
raising an eyebrow as she scoot closer to y/n.
"i think i might have a small crush on him."
"obviously."
"obvio- what do you mean obviously?"
"well, let's be honest y/n. you're not exactly the best as keeping it a secret. every time he comes around, your laugh gets louder, your smile lasts longer, your eyes are always on him. need i go on?"
y/n sat dumbfounded,
"how did you figure out i had a crush on him before i even figured it out?"
"its simple observation, y/n."
"do you think anyone else knows?"
"perhaps not. i don't think anyone nearly pays enough attention as i do. like when he tells a joke and you throw your head back to laugh, you only ever do that with fred."
y/n's eyes widened,
"we need to get you a hobby..."
***
"morning sleepy head,"
fred smiled as he rubbed the top of y/n's head,
messing her head up.
"move!"
y/n giggled and smoothed her hair.
"you're not packed. i thought you were leaving for the holidays?"
y/n questioned.
"not this year. you going home?"
fred questioned.
y/n sat down in the chair of the library,
rolling her eyes.
"do i ever go home?"
"oh... right,"
he smiled in embarrassment.
"nothing to worry about freddie,"
y/n laughed and nudged his shoulder,
taking notice of his pink cheeks.
"so.. what do we have planned today?"
fred's lips turned into a smirk,
"oh just you wait."
***
"you're both mad!"
y/n giggled as she fell back on the common rooms chair,
fred and george sitting in front of her near the fire.
"you're just as mad as us!"
y/n relaxed and closed her eyes,
soaking in the warmth of the room.
"i'll be back,"
george spoke before rising to his feet and leaving the room quickly.
"what's his rush?"
"suppose he's meeting the girl he's been crushing on."
"who?! who is she?"
y/n smiled.
"beats me. he won't tell,"
he shrugged before rising to his feet.
"move over i want to lay down."
"go lay down in your own bed then."
"no! i wanna lay here,"
he protested,
laughing along with y/n as he tried to move her out the way.
"fine! since you want to be stubborn,"
he huffed before laying down on top of her,
his weight crushing her.
"fred!"
she exclaimed,
her heart beginning to race.
they had never been this close before.
his scent lingered in the air before settling in her lungs,
his head laying against her chest.
"you still alive?"
he asked with a laugh.
"barely."
"you sure? i can hear your heart beating like crazy."
the butterflies filled in her stomach before he continued,
"you're very comfortable, oddly enough."
she giggled and pushed him off,
sitting up to give them both room to sit.
fred turned his head toward her,
his eyes reflecting the flame of the fire in front of them.
something lunged inside of her,
and before she knew it,
she was placing her lips on his.
sweet and soft,
she ached for his touch.
the two pulled back,
and once again y/n stared into those eyes that held millions of memories.
his long eyelashes blinked at her slowly,
taking notice of his red cheeks.
"y/n?"
she swallowed,
feeling his hand trace down her cheekbone.
"hm?"
"you okay?"
fred loved watching her all worked up,
he could practically feel her heart slamming against her rib cage.
mostly because his was too.
"mhm,"
she answered,
unable to speak.
the boy grinned and nodded his head,
"alright then."
***
holiday was over and y/n was forced to face fred now,
with more students around.
ever since they kissed,
she had tried so hard to stray away from him and his twin.
it was awkward.
y/n felt horrible for doing it.
not that she didn't enjoy it,
but she valued her friendship with fred.
but now that classes were starting again,
he'd have a lot more access to her.
fred couldn't quite understand her sudden disappearance.
he thought they both enjoyed having each other so close,
but apparently he was wrong.
"what'd you go around kissing our best friend for?!"
george exclaimed,
smacking the back of fred's head.
"she kissed me, idiot."
"well... what are you gonna do?"
"nothing i can do. look at her, avoiding me."
together,
they looked up to see y/n in the dining hall hurrying to grab food and leave before the twins could catch her.
"always been a great friend but... not very quick on her feet,"
george spoke with the shake of his head.
"what do i do, george?"
"well, you know y/n. let her come around when she's ready."
fred's foot bounced up and down at the thought of leaving y/n alone for any longer.
he wasn't sure how much longer he could manage.
he laid in bed that night,
replaying the kiss in his mind on a loop.
he missed her warmth.
***
a month had passed,
and although fred had tried to corner the girl many many times,
she always escaped.
"just move on from her, fred. once she sees you with someone else, she'll think you're over it and come back."
fred pondered the thought,
it was brilliant.
plans were arranged,
and he soon began dating angelina.
once y/n heard the news,
she was furious.
"how could he!"
she yelled,
pacing the room.
"well, y/n.. you did stop talking to him. i wouldn't have expected him to keep waiting any longer,"
hermione was right.
y/n sighed and threw herself in the girls arms,
beginning to cry.
she wasn't quite sure why it hurt so much this time.
fred had dated plenty of girls,
but this one...
broke my heart.
"hermione!"
y/n exclaimed and sat up,
wiping her tears.
"our tea leaves! fred found love! i get my heart broken and then i find happiness or something!"
she explained,
laughing softly.
"so... you're going to talk to fred?"
"what? no, he found love already. now it's my turn!"
***
fred didn't feel complete with angelina.
he enjoyed her company,
but it wasn't y/n.
"did you hear who malfoys dating?"
angelina snickered as she twirled the quill in her hand.
"no,"
fred shrugged,
not looking up from his parchment.
"y/n."
"y/n? y/n l/n?"
"yes! your old best friend. what ever happened between you two anyways?"
fred remembered their night by the fire,
the warmth that spread in his body.
but he shut it down quick before his cheeks could turn shades.
"old news."
***
weeks had passed,
and the tension between y/n and fred was growing by the second.
"come on y/n, my father..."
draco continued,
y/n drowned out his voice.
he was beginning to grow intolerable.
or maybe he just...
wasnt fred.
was this the love professor trelawney predicted for her?
"are you listening?"
draco asked,
turning his head.
"no..."
she admitted,
feeling drained from all the pretending.
she felt crazy for even listening to trelawney.
fred came around the corner,
pulling her arm.
"i'll be back, draco."
fred watched as the blonde headed boy shot him a dirty look,
leaving the two alone in the corridor.
"malfoy? really?!"
"i could say the same for you. dating angelina and all. you know-"
"what was i supposed to do! you left me! you kissed me! yet somehow i'm to blame for all of this?"
he spoke a bit louder,
making y/n stumble back some.
she had never seen fred so serious.
"i guess you're right..."
"please just-just come back and be my friend again, y/n. we can forget about the kiss like it never happened."
"i don't think i can do that fred,"
she admitted,
her throat going dry.
"i can't act like i don't enjoy having your hands against my skin. or-or act like i didn't love that kiss and wish i had more of it."
fred sighed and pulled her close,
pressing his forehead to hers.
"then whats stopping us, y/n?"
he whispered,
silently begging for her to fold in his arms and be with him forever.
"you're dating angelina, and i'm dating draco. that's what's stopping us,"
she spoke painfully,
pulling away from his embrace hesitantly.
fred watched her walk away,
her heart shattering with each step.
***
weeks had passed,
and fred was determined to make y/n his friend again.
or,
if she would,
his girlfriend.
angelina was out of the picture now,
they both agreed it wasn't working.
and he had heard rumor that y/n and draco had broke up two days ago.
now was his chance.
he wasn't sure how he was going to do it,
he figured it'd come to him when it mattered like almost everything else he did.
y/n searched the shelves of the library for a book hermione asked for,
wondering what she even needed it for.
but her search was soon interrupted by the fiery red headed boy,
leaning against the shelf.
"y/n,"
he smiled.
"can i help you?"
"in many ways, yes. you can."
"seriously, fred. hurry this up. i'm sure angelina's missing you."
"havent you heard? we broke up."
"oh,"
y/n spoke softly,
standing up a bit straighter.
"sorry to hear that."
"no need. it was mutual. how are you and draco?"
"been over with and dead, fred. i know you know."
"you're right, i do."
"so,"
she spoke,
turning to face him again.
her legs nearly gave out at the stare of his eyes,
her heart jumping as she laid sight on his lips.
"so.. be with me."
"fred,"
y/n sighed,
dropping her head.
the boy pulled her in,
her head resting against his chest.
she missed this.
his comfort and scent of pinewood.
"please,"
he mumbled against the top of her head.
she looked up at him,
those puppy dog eyes doing something to her.
he inched in,
closer and closer,
finally connecting his lips with hers.
the tension released in both their bodies,
her hands connecting to the back of his neck.
he slowly pulled back,
y/n's eyes still closed,
enjoying the feeling that relaxed her body and made her feel warm inside.
"alright fred... i'm yours,"
she giggled,
feeling her feet rise off the ground and spin her around.
"guess trelawney was onto something, huh?"
fred laughed,
setting her back down.
"yeah. maybe she's not so nutty after all."
