dear harry,
i hope this letter finds you well.
i've been thinking about you all summer long.
i miss you so much.
i miss hearing your laugh.
holding your hand in the halls.
feeling your kisses against my skin.
how are things with the dursley's?
can't imagine you're having too much fun there.
my mother's been asking about you a lot.
this is the twelfth and final letter i'm writing,
surprised i still haven't heard back from you.
you're worrying me,
i might admit.
but i hope all is well.
please write back to me soon.
and stay safe.
i love you harry potter.
never forget that.
-your love, y/n.
letter #12.
***
y/n walked into the school,
surrounded by her friends who laughed and bubbled with excitement.
she, too, was excited.
but something didn't feel right.
harry hadnt written her all summer.
had practically broke up with her by doing so.
she wasn't stupid,
she could take a hint.
but still,
it hurt.
before they had boarded the train and set off,
he had held her close and whispered into her ear,
"please write me. i love you."
but yet here she was,
in the dining hall with no sight of harry.
she began to worry,
maybe something had happened to him.
but as quickly as the guilt came in,
it was soon washed away as she directed her eyes to the movement from the doors.
harry and ron walking in,
laughing and smiling.
nothing was wrong with him.
he just...
simply hadn't written.
he didn't love y/n anymore.
and she accepted that.
"hey,"
the two smiled,
y/n's attention staying on the professors that sat along the table at the front.
hermione cheered and began conversation with the two,
y/n's eyes never moving.
hearing his voice made her feel sick.
god i miss him.
she thought to herself.
she could feel harry's eyes burning holes in her,
but she refused to look at him.
"y/n-"
he began to speak before she cut him off,
excusing herself from the table and practically running her way to the dorm.
she felt the tears weld in her eyes as she hurried to the comfort of her own bed,
confused.
she thought she was over him.
she thought she had accepted and moved on from the hurt.
but seeing him was a different story.
she wasn't prepared to hear his voice speak her name in that gentle tone he always used.
she wasn't ready to hear his laugh ring throughout and brighten the room.
no.
she wasn't nearly ready.
the poor girl collapsed forward on the bed,
shaking it with her sobs.
her mind continued racking with questions:
why?
what happened?
what did i do?
before she heard a few footsteps,
and a knock.
"y/n?"
she knew all too well who it was,
there was no question about it.
"hm?"
she spoke through the cracks in her voice,
trying to wipe her tears as best she could.
"are you alright?"
"fantastic. thank you."
"can we talk?"
her back was turned,
but she knew harry was walking toward her now.
the bed sunk beneath his weight,
and the boy could see the tear stained cheeks of hers.
she quickly gathered herself before sitting up,
staring at the boy she loved more than life itself.
the air got caught in her throat,
his hair sticking against his forehead in the way it does,
and those eyes glossy with love.
"yeah."
"can i ask what's wrong?"
"i don't know what you mean. i'm perfectly fine,"
she smiled as best she could.
"y/n, you and i both know that's not true. i know you better than that."
"yeah well, i thought i knew you too,"
she spat bitterly,
his expression changing.
"you're mad? when i'm the one who didn't receive not a single letter from you this summer?"
he asked,
rising to his feet in anger.
"are you mad? i wrote twelve letters and not once did i get an answer! you've got some nerve!"
she yelled,
rising to her feet as well.
"t-twelve letters? i didn't get any."
"well i sent them, harry."
"i'm so sorry. it must've been the dursley's. i had no idea. please, you've got to believe me."
y/n stood there for a second before the boy stepped closer,
grabbing both of her hands with his.
"you know i'm madly in love with you, right?"
"you sure?"
"more than positive, my love. i think about you every second of every day, even if i'm asleep. you make me happy, and i couldn't ask for better. i'm right where i belong,"
he spoke lovingly,
inches away from her lips.
"right here, with you."
y/n felt her body go numb and warm,
melting under his touch.
"god i missed you,"
she sighed with relief,
folding into his embrace.
"i missed you more."
the two met in the middle and kissed a kiss full of love and lost time.
she missed every inch of him.
"i love you. did you remember that?"
"i could never forget. even if i tried, my love."
