"come here. i'm so cold,"
y/n shivered from beneath the blankets,
pulling oliver's body closer to hers.
he laughed and shifted himself under her weight,
the goosebumps rising from her cold hands laying on his bare abdomen.
"if you wanted to lay on me, you could've just said that,"
oliver smiled and held her close.
"you're warm."
"you're always cold."
"well if you would turn the heat on!"
"hey! the power bill is high!"
y/n giggled and looked up at him,
tracing his adam's apple.
"are you okay, my love?"
he let out a sigh and nodded his head,
"yeah. yeah, i'm fine."
"maybe i should..i should go back to work?"
"no! no...i promised you after your accident i'd work enough for the both of us."
"well i mean we're here because of my accident, right? this is too much to handle. even for you, my love."
oliver pursed his lips together then grabbed a hold of y/n's hand,
where the scars were pigmented light and thick.
he ran his thumb over one big scar continuously,
almost reminding himself and still holding himself accountable for the life threatening crash his girlfriend was in.
"no...no, y/n. i'll make it work."
"this is beginning to feel very old age, hm? husband won't let the wife work,"
she joked with a smile so pure that oliver couldn't help but feel at peace.
"you know i'd never hold you back from anything, right? i just....you can't work, y/n. at least not right now. you're not completely healed."
she nodded her head and readjusted her laying position to bury her face in the crook of his neck.
"can i go with you today? just to help with advertising your next game!"
"blimey, y/n, you're not tied to the bed. you can come down anytime you'd like."
he laughed along with her,
"i just wanted to ask."
"i know, darling."
she left a small kiss on his neck and smiled,
"i'm gonna make things right, okay?"
"y/n...you didn't do anything wrong."
she sat up and looked him in his eyes,
watching as his eyes continued to gloss over with guilt.
"neither did you,"
y/n winked and pecked his lips quickly,
earning a soft smile from him.
"we should probably get ready soon,"
he mumbled against the top of her head.
she laid her cool cheek back onto his chest and tried to warm herself up.
"just a few more minutes."
he laughed and squeezed her close,
making her laugh loudly.
oliver closed his eyes and let the echos of her laughter burn themselves in the back of his mind.
he refused to take granted of these moments,
especially after her accident.
"you're doing it again,"
y/n whispered and kissed his closed eyelids.
he opened them slowly and was face to face with y/n, who resembled the softness of an angel.
he held a hand to her cheek and caressed it with the pad of his thumb.
she kissed the inside of his hand slowly and let the time pass by them.
"you've got to let it go, oliver. it's over."
"i can't. i can't stop seeing you in that hospital bed. i can't stop imagining what would've happened if you didn't make it,"
his voice had a slight catch in it as he admitted the thoughts that corrupted his mind.
"i can't stop blaming myself. you were in the car to come see me! come see me at practice! if you would've just stayed home, none of this would've happened!"
"oliver,"
her silky voice brought him back to reality.
a reality where she was well and alive and still loved him;
still held him close at night;
still tagged with him to practices and games.
she was here.
"i'm alive, my love. and nothing would have kept me home. i was coming to see you regardless, okay? it was not your fault."
he took in a deep breath to prevent the hysteria from returning,
and let y/n hold him close.
"please, oliver, let it go."
"i don't know what i would do if i lost you."
"but you didn't. i'm still here."
oliver nodded and relaxed at the feeling of y/n's hands running through his hair.
"i love you, oliver."
"i love you."
their lips connected at once,
and oliver finally felt his body relax.
y/n was right,
he realized.
she was here and that's all that mattered.
his hand cupped the back of her neck and held her close before she pulled back with a glint in her eye.
"you're going to be late."
he looked at the clock and nodded,
"right. let's go."

y/n stood at the mirror and pulled the sleeves of her shirt down,
examining herself in the new clothes.
oliver came up from behind her and wrapped an arm around her waist,
pulling her closer to his body.
he kissed her cheek,
"you look...so beautiful, y/n."
"thank you,"
she smiled and felt her fingers become laced with his.
he brought her hand to his lips and kissed her knuckles,
then kissed the scar on her hand.
y/n looked at her and oliver in the mirror,
feeling grateful for the life before her.
she thought back to the days and nights in the hospital where she fought to wake up for oliver.
and here they stood,
together as one.
