"hey love,"
y/n greeted the boy who stepped through the portrait,
his hands full with books.
"hey,"
he replied rather tiredly.
"long day?"
"yeah."
"i hear you,"
she nodded in agreement with a sigh of her own.
the boy released the load of books onto the table and looked down at her.
"come here,"
he spoke gently,
extending his arms.
she produced a smile for the first time in hours,
rising to her feet to hug him.
y/n breathed in relief once her arms wrapped around his torso.
her bad day soon became bearable,
and the problems she was once stressed with were no longer.
neville reveled in the way her arms held him tightly,
and the way her perfume swirled around them only to settle in his lungs.
her head laid against his chest while they stood in silence for a bit longer,
neville kissing the top of her head.
y/n looked up and dug her chin into the pit of his chest,
staring into his eyes that offered security and made her feel tranquil.
he leaned in closer and grazed her lips with his own,
then made the connection.
y/n's eyes closed while she felt everything wrong in life become nonexistent while they stood laced as one.
neville's soft lips offering her peace.
"feel better?"
he asked and pressed his head to hers,
his hands running up and down her back.
"much. you?"
"oh, yeah."
she let out a soft laugh and nodded,
kissing his chin in a slow manner.
"we still on for this weekend?"
"of course."
"hard to believe it's already been a year,"
she smiled gratefully and felt his hand enfold the back of her neck.
"i know. been the best year of my life."
"yeah? even today?"
"especially today. there's nothing in this world that a hug and kiss from you can't fix."
"you're sweet,"
she complimented and pecked his lips.
"i try."
the two spent the rest of the night sitting by the fire and venting about their day,
although the issues seemed smaller now.

"ready?"
neville smiled as y/n appeared in front of him,
"ready,"
she nodded and latched her hand onto his.
they began to make their way to hogsmeade,
accompanied by the balmy weather that kissed their skin.
"it's beautiful out, isn't it?"
neville conversed as they made way to madam puddifoot's tea shop.
"yep. perfect weather for a perfect day,"
she twinkled almost childishly,
so deeply in love that she couldn't help it.
"i couldn't agree more."
neville placed the back of her hand to his lips and left kind kisses along them.
she always loved the way neville was so gentle with her and made her feel respected.
there was never a bad day with neville.
and anytime she felt otherwise, that maybe his feelings had changed or she was the slightest bit jealous, he was quick to reassure her and remind her of his love.
vice versa.
it was a kind relationship that people begged for,
and spent years searching for.

the bell announced their arrival as they pushed the door open,
taking their seats close to the window.
"happy one year love,"
neville simpered as he reached for a bag under the table.
y/n gasped as it became held in her clutch.
"you didn't!"
"i did,"
the boy chuckled and watched with such enthrallment as she took the various amount of little presents into her hands.
flowers of many different kinds,
sweets,
a letter,
and a scrapbook full of pictures they had taken throughout their years of being both friends and a couple.
"oh neville..."
she breathed out and flipped through the glossy pages,
the moving pictures of them laughing or playing in the snow making her heart swell.
"you-you are, without a doubt, the most amazing boyfriend on this earth."
he let out a laugh and placed the mug to his lips,
not being able to take his eyes off her.
"i love you, neville. with everything in me."
"i love you too."
"your gift should be here soon! i had to get it from back home,"
she giggled and opened a chocolate cauldron candy,
handing him one for himself.
"can't wait."
she reached for his hand and held it tight,
the gratuity pulling at her lips.
"to our one year,"
y/n giggled,
lifting her cup.
neville followed her movement and lifted his own,
"and to many many more,"
the clink of their mugs erupted throughout the tea shop,
becoming a sort of unsealed promise for the couple.
