y/n folded her arms across her chest and sat back against the headboard,
her eyes straightforward in anger.
"what's got your wand in a knot?"
ginny asked,
sitting on the edge of y/n's bed.
"your stupid, ignorant, dense, brother!"
"uh huh...which one?"
y/n couldn't help but to laugh despite the anger that coursed her veins.
"ronald."
"uh oh...the full first name? what did he do?"
"one minute he wants to be with me forever, then the next he doesn't want anything to do with me! he just told me yesterday were 'no good together' like, make up your mind...it's frustrating. but then, today, adrian pucey comes up and is asking me if i'd like to go with him to hogsmeade this weekend. and your brainless brother decides to threaten him for it. threaten him!"
"adrian pucey asked you out?"
y/n shook her head,
"ginny, focus!"
"right, right. so he breaks up with you then got mad someone else fancies you?"
"yes! i'm at perfect liberty to date who i want now that he's broken up with me...again!"
ginny's eyebrows knitted together,
"but...do you want to be with anyone else?"
y/n threw her head in her hands,
"...no."
ginny patted the girl on her shoulder and laid a supportive hand on her leg.
"ronald is thick, as you've pointed out, but don't let him hold you back, y/n."
"yeah, i know."
ginny looked around the room as though she was waiting for the moment to pass,
making y/n laugh.
"ooh, someone's got a date, huh?"
y/n teased as she poked ginny.
"maybe."
"well, go on! i'll be here when you get back, okay?"
"you're sure you're o-"
"ginny! go!"
"right, you're the best."
ginny hugged y/n close before running out of the room.
y/n giggled and sat back into the bed,
wondering what a date with ron would be like.
she couldn't quite force herself to hate ron,
no matter how mad he made her.
she always found herself right back at square one;
in love and swooning over the tiniest of his actions.
she climbed out of the bed and began to make way towards the common room,
before falling upon the sight of lavender and ron.
the anger, yet again, found itself burrowing in y/n's chest.
how dare he?!
after getting mad about adrian asking me out?!
she pushed through the common room and out of the portrait in search of fred.
ron stared back in both shock and worry,
hoping y/n didn't completely misunderstand the situation at hand.

when y/n found fred,
she threw her arms around his waist and cried into his chest.
"hey, what-what's wrong?"
she shook her head,
not wanting to involve the boy in her drama,
and remained buried into his arms.
"i'm just...stressed,"
she lied with a small sniffle.
fred ran a supportive hand up and down y/n's back.
"well, hey, at least you've got a date this weekend."
y/n pulled back and laughed,
wiping her eyes with her sleeve.
"think i should go?"
"don't be thick, y/n! it's the perfect stress reliever."
she shrugged,
"dunno. suppose there's no harm in it."
he nudged her shoulder,
"don't let that little brother of mine get you down."
she turned back to face him with wide eyes,
a smug grin stretched across his lips.
"how'd you know?"
"i didn't. only guessed. but your reaction just confirmed it."
y/n laughed and shoved him,
"you're terrible!"
he laughed and began pushing her back,
soon sending the two into a game of tag.
y/n ran down the corridor with fred,
their laughs ringing throughout in elation.
but their fun ended once they turned the corner and were met with mcgonagall.
she escorted them back to the common room,
muttering incoherent words beneath her breath.
but fred and y/n only laughed quietly,
not affected in the slightest.
y/n enjoyed fred's company for that same reason.
she only ever laughed with him.
and as they piled into the common room with giggled spilling over,
she forgot all about the dilemma with ron.
"thank you for the laughs."
"of course,"
fred grinned and playfully punched her shoulder.
"do you want me to talk to that baby brother of mine?"
she shook her head,
"no, please don't. it's old news."
he wiggled his eyebrows around,
"if you say so."
"seriously, fred!"
"i'm serious!"
she lowered her head with a snicker,
"you're the worst. goodnight, freddie."
"goodnight!"
she trailed into the dorm room where the girls sat around one another.
"we waited up for you,"
ginny smiled.
"thank you guys. i was with fred."
"y/n, after hours? seriously?"
hermione frowned.
y/n smiled and began running her hand through hermione's hair,
"you're right, i'm sorry."
"well, anyways...did you see that daft dimbo all over ronald?!"
"ah, so you two saw it, too?"
"it was gross, y/n. he looks...forced."
everyone doubled over in laughter,
though y/n's laugh had a twinge of bitterness in it.
"you are going this weekend aren't you, y/n?"
hermione asked.
"with adrian? yeah, i am."

y/n bounced around the castle with fred and george,
playing small pranks on the third years nearby.
but it wasn't until she looked at the time that she realized her date with adrian was soon.
"oh you're actually going, huh?"
george asked with a chuckle.
"nothing else to do."
"what do you mean 'nothing else'? we've got plenty of pranks to lay throughout the castle!"
"and test out our newest products."
y/n shook her head quickly,
"uh uh. not after your nosebleed nougats! i bled for like, three days straight!"
they chuckled as one before sending y/n on her way,
leaving her to meet adrian near the courtyard.
but before she could reach him,
an arm reached from around the corner and pulled her into the vacant classroom.
"blimey, ron! 's the matter with you?!"
y/n found her back to the wall and ron standing dangerously close,
his breathing growing ragged.
"you're mine."
"w-what?"
he let his hand fall to her cheek,
where he traced her cupid's bow.
"you're mine. i won't let you go out with adrian."
she scoffed as best she could,
trying to fight the dizzying affect in her head.
"you broke up with me, may i remind you? and you were all cozied up with lavender last night."
he shook his head full of red hair,
"there's nothing going on with lavender. believe me."
"okay, but we're still not together."
"you're not adrian's either."
y/n felt her heart lust after the jealousy burning in his eyes.
"not yet."
ron chuckled darkly,
"not ever."
he let his fingers fan her throat,
then pulled her in for a dizzy kiss.
her knees shook as ron let his lips move in sync with y/n's,
but she soon pushed him back.
"no,"
she spoke through her heavy breaths.
"you-you broke up with me. i can't do this back and forth thing with you anymore!"
he inhaled deeply to let y/n's scent burn his lungs.
"i know..and im sorry, really. i was..scared. yeah, scared. you know?"
"scared of what?"
"you, y/n. you're entirely too good for me, and knowing that made my head all...wonky."
y/n snickered and laid her head to ron's chest,
"you're an idiot."
"i know. believe me, fred roughed me up enough."
she let her eyes fall to his,
"good. maybe you'll learn."
"i did."
she smiled softly and let out a breathless laugh,
"promise me. promise me this is what you want."
"i promise."
he let his lips line with y/n's again,
where they shared a sweet kiss to seal their promise.
and there began ron and y/n's forever,
for there wasn't a better love than the one they shared.
