the rain tapped against the window in y/n's room where it was soon to wake her.
she opened her eyes to reveal the darkened room that was oddly silent,
apart from the raindrops outside.
it wasn't until she sat upright that she realized every girl in her dorm had left for the day.
y/n realized today was saturday,
and everyone in hogwarts was running to hogsmeade despite the weather.
the rain was the perfect excuse to drink as much butterbeer as one could stomach with zero judgment.she rubbed the sleep out of her eyes,
but felt no reason to slide herself out of the all too comfortable bed.
it seemed much more warm and inviting today than it had ever been before.
a knock echoed through the room,
followed by the squeaking of the door hinges and there stood harry potter.
she smiled instantly,
"hi."
"hey,"
he returned with the same warm smile as y/n.
"want to go to hogsmeade today? i assume it'll be crowded but-"
"no, not at all. stay here with me, please?"
she flashed that dashing demure smile of hers,
leaving him no choice but to agree.
he crawled into her snug, comfortable bed with her and wrapped her in his arms.
"do you like the rain, love?"
she asked once they laid still.
"sometimes. it can be calming at times. that's when i like it most."
"you don't like storms?"
he shrugged,
"not really. do you?"
"mm, a bit. i think i like them most when they reflect what's going on inside my head, you know?"
harry knew all too well what she meant,
but he loved hearing her explain things in such detail that it amazed him.
"no, what do you mean?"
"like...when my head is all muddled and disturbed, when my thoughts are dark, slashing or chaotic. and the wind whistles and whips the tree branches around, sometimes breaking them, and the rain forces itself upon the terrain, i like to look outside and find comfort in it because it's like me. dark, loud, but yet the sun always comes back around. nice, beautiful, serene sunshine."
harry stared outside the window along with y/n,
"do you ever feel like the thunder matches your anger?"
he asked rather airily.
"all the time. and the lightening reflects that quick flash of..."
"hope."
they chorused together.
y/n smiled into his chest,
adoring the way they always remained on the same page.
"can i tell you something?"
harry asked as he combed his fingers through her hair.
"anything, my love."
"before i met you, my whole life was thunderstorms. there was always this deafening thunder that shook my core, the pounding of the rain against my already fried brain. and then when i saw you, met you, there went the lightening. for the very first time, something felt promising."
he pinched her cheek playfully as he spoke,
basking in the echo of her giggle.
when she turned her head to look up at him,
she laid a kiss to his jawline and let her hands rest against his abdomen.
"and out came the sun,"
harry finished with the air catching itself in his throat at the sight of her sleepy, yet still so luminescent and curious, eyes.
"you calling me your sunshine?"
she smiled.
harry nodded with the same smile etched on his lips,
"i am. i haven't had a bad day since."
"not one?"
"not one,"
he confirmed with a gentle kiss to her noise.
"and even if there is a bad start, the moment your lips touch mine, all is well."
the rain outside began to pick up as y/n and harry remained in each other's arms.
harry had never felt so at peace with life.
everything was perfect.
more than perfect,
if he was being honest.
the sound of y/n's humming united with the heavy rain outside was pure bliss.
harry tightened his grip around her and held her close to his chest,
kissing all over her face and enjoying the ringing of her melodic laugh.
"stop!"
she spoke through her laughter,
though she didn't want him to.
he soon buried his face in the crook of her neck where his laugh vibrated against her skin.
y/n nuzzled her head against his chest and closed her eyes,
harry's steady breathing and the faint rumble of thunder outside being just enough to send her under.harry could tell by the way y/n's body went limp,
that she was well asleep.
he smiled as hard as his lips would allow at the sight of her relaxed muscles that showed no signs of distress.
and he was glad!
that meant he was doing his job well.
here she laid,
asleep in his arms in the most tranquil state as she could be.
she was vulnerable with him and allowed him to be as open as he wanted.
no judgment,
no pressure.
it was only love.
the purest form of love.
he kissed her temple once again,
just soft enough to send his message but not to wake her.
"i love you more than life itself, my sunshine."
