"ron,"
y/n whispered in a tune,
smiling as his attention turned to her.
"what?"
he whispered back.
"what's the answer to this?"
she discreetly held up her paper and pointed to the question,
looking around in hopes the teacher was too busy to look.
"it's letter b."
"thank you,"
she smiled and blew him a playful kiss,
making him smile a bit.
the charade continued for the rest of the class until y/n and ron were both finished with their tests.
"you're a life saver,"
y/n whispered over to ron while they walked back to their seats.
he nodded in acknowledgment but felt a strange sense of ire burn within his chest.
not being able to pinpoint the exact reason for it,
he took in a calming breath and allowed it to disappear.
he turned to find y/n laying her head against her arm as a pillow and her eyes closed.
the breath knocked itself loose out of ron's lungs as long as his eyes remained on the sleeping girl.
peaceful,
he found himself short of breath and felt the pulsation of his heart echo within him.
his mind began to create scenarios that involved both y/n and ron in a close manner.
he smiled to himself at the idea of being able to stroke y/n's delicate skin with the back of his fingers,
letting encouraging words leave his lips just for her to hear.
he would pride himself on being gentle with her,
reminding her as often as possible of his love for her.
he felt the sharp nudge in his rib and turned to see harry,
"you're staring at y/n?"
ron shrugged,
"she's...attractive."
harry nodded in agreement,
peering over ron's shoulder to sneak a quick eyeful of y/n.
"don't be dim, ronald,"
hermione warned in a low whisper,
her teeth clenched together.
"she only uses you for your answers!"
that same ire from earlier ignited within ron again,
but this time he had a reason.
hermione was right,
he realized,
y/n only ever conversed with him when it benefited her.
the thought of being taken advantage of by a girl he admired was sickening.
unless he was looking at it all wrong.
neither had he attempted to spark conversation up outside of their classes together.
maybe now was the time to prove to himself that he meant more to y/n than an easy way to pass class.
"you've got her all wrong, 'mione,"
ron shrugged and turned his attention back to y/n,
who was awake and waving her wand inconspicuously to paint her nails.
he leaned across the table to get closer to y/n,
and whispered her lovely name.
she turned to him,
"yeah?"
her eyes locked with his and went a shock of nerves through his body.
why is she so charming?
"um..hey."
hermione laughed mockingly,
"charming, ronald."
ron ignored her and continued with his eyes on the girl before him,
her expression contorting into that of confusion.
"hi?"
her tone sounded....
condescending.
he thought irritably.
hermione had been right,
after all..
y/n rendered him useless until it became of her benefit.
his expression turned sour as he forced his eyes to tear from hers.
those images of y/n ron had created just minutes prior were crumbling down before him.
y/n was nothing more than a peer to ron,
a peer she could use to pass.class ended and ron was quick to leave the wretched class behind.
he heard a trilling voice carry through the hallways,
calling out for him.
he recognized it immediately,
but refused to turn around.
he could bare to make himself available to y/n again,
she'd probably find a way to force me into writing her essay.
yeah, right.
he scoffed internally,
trudging to the common room.
it was times like these that ron was grateful y/n had been sorted into a different house than gryffindor.
that way she couldn't corner him and force even more out of him.
it wasn't until then did the anger melt into dejection.
y/n was a girl every normal teen boy sought after.
she was pleasant on the eyes,
to say the least,
but she was much more than that.
ron couldn't stop himself from thinking highly of her though he knew the truth.
she doesn't like you, idiot.
***
y/n pressed her lips in a straight line as the worry clouded her mind.
she looked around for ron and yet,
he was still nowhere to be found.
y/n felt as if she owed him an apology for her impudent tone the other day.
she had been so deep in her own mind,
remembering things that caused a sense of aggression to build within her gut,
that when ron had called for her attention they didn't decrease.
she felt horrible."have you seen ron?"
y/n asked harry,
sitting herself in rons empty seat for the time being.
"oh..uh, he's.."
harry trailed off.
y/n watched him try to find a lie while he rubbed his neck nervously.
"not that it's any of your concern, but he's not coming to class."
y/n turned her attention toward hermione's irate tone and knew, she too, disliked y/n.
"do you know where i can find him?"
hermione shrugged.
"right. hermione, i hope if i make things right with ron, you and i can become friends of some sort."
without giving hermione a chance to retort,
y/n snuck out of the class in a wild chase for ron.it wasn't until she found him sulking in the courtyard that she truly began to feel her insides twist with guilt.
"hey,"
she greeted and took a seat next to him.
he shifted his body away from her and didn't bother replying,
though it took everything in him not to.
"i want to apologize for my tone the other day. i wasn't trying to be...a git."
the corner of ron's lips twitched but he suppressed his smile.
"truly, ron."
he finally turned to her but his eyes were full of annoyance.
"you're not sorry. you're only saying that so i'll go back to talking to you and giving you test answers."
his terse reply made y/n's heart falter.
"that's not...that's not true at all."
"then how come we've never talked outside of class?"
y/n shrugged,
"i don't know. i wasn't aware that's what you wanted. but now that i know, can you give me a chance?"
ron's head shook slowly as the thoughts swarmed inside of him.
she shuffled a box outside of her bag and handed it to him,
smiling at his eyes lit up momentarily.
"a chocolate frog?"
he questioned rather skeptically.
"did you think this would fix everything?"
"not at all. but i figured the card inside might help you to see i mean no harm."
ron could no longer contain his excitement as the card laid flat in his hand.
a rare wizard he had spent ages looking for was now in his possession.
"blimey! how did you get this!"
y/n laughed and patted ron's arm softly,
"i know a guy."
ron met her gaze and felt a surge of different emotions rise within him.
he was angry,
but her eyes were so inviting he couldn't help but to drop it.
"friends?"
she asked in a light tone then extended her hand out.
"i can't...just be your friend, y/n."
she rose an eyebrow at his reply,
prompting him to continue.
"i like you...a lot, actually."
ron watched y/n's confusion melt,
then her lips form a warm smile.
she withdrew her hand and inched closer to ron, meeting him where he sat.
their lips became one and every less than cheerful emotion in ron made itself scarce.
her thrilling taste made ron's tastebuds buzz.
his lungs suddenly forgot to work,
but y/n's scent still imprinted itself within him.
his hands braided through her hair as they remained connected,
the euphoria pulsing through his veins and ringing in his ears.
she broke the kiss hesitantly and laid her head to his,
their smile mirror one another's
"i can work with being more than friends."
ron pecked her lips in response,
sealing their deal.y/n lounged in the gryffindor common room with ron,
though it wasn't permitted,
and let the fire flicker before them.
it relaxed their once raging nerves and allowed them to enjoy the serenity they absorbed from one another.
harry and hermione came crawling into the portrait not long after,
oblivious to the company in front of ron.
"ronald i-"
hermione began but was cut short as y/n stared up at her.
y/n got to her feet and smiled at his friends emotively.
"i'm sorry we got off on the wrong foot, but my intentions have been nothing less than pure."
hermione,
desperate for a girl friend and happy for ron,
nodded her head in agreement.
"i'm sorry i was so...curt with you before."
"water under the bridge,"
y/n smiled and engulfed her new friend in her arms.
"though you really shouldn't be in here, y/n. you're not in gryffindor, you could get into heaps of trouble!"
everyone laughed softly at her comment.
y/n relaxed at the sounds of the collected laughter and at the feeling of ron's fingers loosening the knots in her shoulders.
"y/n?"
ron whispered into her ear,
just audible enough for her to hear.
"hm?"
"you are my life now."
y/n smiled brightly and turned to lay a warm and lingering kiss to his cheek.
"you are my life now, too, ron."
