y/n's feet swung in the air at a slow pace as she remained still on her stomach,
the room around her replacing itself with the setting of the book before her.
instead of the empty bedroom at the burrow,
y/n imagined herself in the field of green where the faeries flittered and remained at peace.
until the banging on her door snapped her out of her trance.
y/n directed her head towards the door,
the green around her melting into the chipped walls that boxed her in.
she rushed to open the door and came face to face with fred and george who were anxiously peering over their shoulder.
"we need to hide in your room,"
they spoke synchronically before squeezing past y/n to conceal themselves in the crooks of her space.
"what did you two do?"
she asked through a harsh whisper,
closing her door and rushing to lay on her bed as though she wasn't abetting the two jokers.
"what?! what is this?!"
percy yelled from the other room.
and her question was suddenly answered.
y/n could hear percy's thundering footsteps trailing closer and closer to her room.
"y/n! have you seen those cursed, idiotic brothers of mine?"
y/n,
acting oblivious,
raised her eyebrows.
"the twins? um...i think i saw them going with harry and ron to, like, play quidditch or something."
percy closed the door shut behind him,
but the twins didn't reappear until the slamming front door of the burrow rattled the house.
they cane into view again,
their stomachs tight from laughing so hard.
"what did you two do?!"
y/n asked again through a harsher tone,
getting to her feet to cross her arms.
george shrugged while fred stood by his side with a grin.
"nothing of your concern, dear friend of mine. thank you for your help,"
george spoke smoothly.
"honestly, thank you,"
fred agreed,
watching george rush through her bedroom door.
fred stood back and looked down at y/n,
his smile not moving an inch.
"you owe me one, you know."
fred laughed then nodded his head,
"i know. and i'll pay you back when you need it."
"thank you."
"least i can do."
y/n returned to her previous position on the bed and opened her book again,
until fred laid himself next to her.
she ignored him in hopes of continuing her adventure through the words on the page.
fred gazed at her and her unique,
but unbelievable beauty,
and smiled.
"what are you r-"
she held a finger up to stop him from talking,
making him go mute.
the boy chuckled to himself at how seriously she took her reading.
he tucked a loose piece of hair behind her ear,
giving him more of a view to her prepossessing features.
"what, fred?"
she asked and reluctantly tore her eyes from the page to meet his.
y/n felt a sudden change of pace in her heart once their eyes locked.
she had never noticed how soft they were;
how enticing they felt.
"just curious."
"can i read in peace, please?"
she asked with a laugh that he found himself fancying.
"my being here isn't peaceful?"
"maybe if you were reading, too. but...looking at me while i'm trying to read kind of ruins the magic, you know?"
"no, i don't,"
he admitted.
y/n laughed and returned back to her book,
leaving fred to go and find one of his own to retrieve.
he scanned his room left and right for a book,
though never finding one that was still intact.
he rummaged through percy's room in a hurry,
but found himself mentally puking at the titles of the books.
he trailed through ginny's room,
careful not to intrude on a girls privacy,
and found a book that seemed somewhat okay.

y/n watched as fred reentered her room,
feeling the happiness wash over her.
she prepared herself for another quick conversation with him,
but as he laid himself down next to her and propped open a book,
she realized there would be no conversing right now.
she let out an airy laugh at the sight,
realizing she had never seen fred with a book in hand.
"what are y-"
he stuck his index finger in the air to quiet her,
his eyes never leaving the book.
with a lively smile on her face,
she returned to her own world.

"hey, y/n. what does 'pulchritudinous' mean?"
fred asked,
turning his tense neck to y/n.
she faced him,
"beautiful. like, breathtaking, heartbreaking beauty. you know?"
fred nodded as the pale lights of the room seemed to become less dull above y/n's glistening skin.
"yeah, i know."
y/n nodded intently,
"so how's the book?"
"good, good. learning a lot. how's yours?"
"very captivating, thank you."
fred smiled and nodded his head towards her,
leaving y/n to return the same bright smile.
"pulchritudinous. that's you."
y/n covered her face with her hands and laughed that endearing laughed she owned,
"you're kind,"
she murmured behind her hands.
fred adored her shy mannerisms,
only deepening his inherent love for her.
"only honest."
"yeah, yeah,"
she smiled and placed her eyes back on the book,
fred following after her.
***
"remember that favor you owe me?"
y/n asked,
rocking from her heels to the tips of her toes.
"yes?"
he ran a hand through his bed head,
barely having been awake for an hour now.
"could you drive me to the bookshop?"
fred let out a laugh,
"just..apparate."
y/n stood still and looked around his room shyly,
the blush appearing across his cheeks at the sight of her.
"you didn't pass your apparition test, did you?"
she shook her head,
"left my foot behind when i went to take it."
fred let out a hollering laugh that reverberated off the walls at the thought of a footless y/n.
she rolled her eyes but let the quiet laugh slip out,
"leave me alone,"
she teased.
"impossible."
"ugh. just forget i asked."
y/n began to turn and leave,
but not before fred called after her.
"wait! give me ten minutes. i'll take you soon."
"thanks."
she closed the door behind her and skipped down the stairs,
where she joined mrs weasley and ginny in a conversation over a quick cup of tea.
"any plans today, y/n?"
"yes! fred and i are planning to head to the bookshop soon."
the room fell silent,
before ginny's snickering pierced the air.
"fred can read?"
"oh, ginny!"
mrs weasley exclaimed quietly before throwing y/n a reassuring smile,
"does he, you know, read with you?"
"here and there,"
she answered before hearing fred's mumbles of curses as he tripped down the bottom step,
colliding into the object in front of him.
y/n laughed,
"think you might've left your feet up there,"
she teased.
"you would know about leaving feet behind, hm?"
the pair laughed at their little inside joke and made way to the bookstore.
***
fred hurried to purchase the secret book for y/n as she made herself scarce through the many shelves of the store,
though the anticipation made him anxious.
"is this for your girlfriend?"
the lady asked,
handing the boy the wrapped book inside the plastic bag.
fred laughed,
"she's not...not really my girlfriend. more of a girl who's a friend."
the woman behind the counter nodded,
"she's cute, you know."
"i agree."
"get her now while you can, son."
"r-right. thank you."
fred nodded and found y/n lost in the book in her hand.
"what'd you buy?"
"some book ginny asked me to get for her. find anything you like?"
y/n nodded,
"loads. go bring the car up and i'll meet you out there, okay?"
"alright."
as soon as fred left the store,
y/n pulled the books she found for fred out of hiding.
"how to run your own business."
"jokes incorporated!"
"prankster; the book of mastering pranks."
though y/n knew fred could write the last book himself,
she figured a new outlook on pranks wouldn't do any harm.
she hurried to check out and did as she promised,
meeting fred in the front with their surprise gifts.
***
the floorboard croaked beneath y/n's weight as she walked back into her temporary bedroom,
eyeing the book laid on her bed.
she opened the front page and found fred's scrawl on the front,
"y/n-
a book i found that would suit your interest the most.
hope you like it.
and you better,
it cost a lot.
pulchritudinous.
don't forget.
-fred w."
y/n's heart began to swell with the pounding love that filled her veins.
she rushed to his room with her gift books in hand,
smiling all too happily upon her entrance.
"did you get the book?"
"i did. thank you so much."
she passed him the three books of his own.
"my own business?"
"i know that's what you and george want."
"wow...this is what reading should be about."
he laughed to himself as he skimmed through the book about pranks.
y/n laughed euphoniously.
fred got up to wrap his arms around y/n tightly and held her as close as he could,
basking in her aromatic perfume.
he collapsed their bodies onto the bed playfully,
but felt the air knock itself loose as her face was nearly inches from his.
he tucked her hair behind her ear again,
then let his thumb trace down her cheek where he finally held her chin.
"can i kiss you?"
she nodded,
not being able to form coherent words.
fred leaned in and united their lips as one,
bubbling their blood with vehemence.
it was electrifying.
there was nothing greater in this world than the connection that was forming between y/n and fred.
the kiss broke,
sending the cold wind to freeze their once warm lips.
"be with me,"
y/n breathed shakily through her shyness.
fred held the sides of her face and nodded,
"i will. until our pages run out."
