"shh!"
y/n whispered harshly with a smile,
peeking around the corner to search for unwanted guests.
"i'm sorry,"
ron laughed and pulled her close again,
their lips becoming one.
y/n slowly pulled back and placed a hand to his shoulder,
leaving it there to rest.
"hey...i love you,"
she almost whispered,
the words sounding so foreign but true.
"i love you too,"
ron smiled and pecked her lips,
then kissed her cheek.
"you okay?"
"yeah...yeah, i'm alright. just feel bad about hiding us is all,"
she explained with an agitated sigh.
"no need to. it's more exciting this way, don't you think?"
"so you're saying when we reveal this secret, i'll be boring huh?"
she asked with raised eyebrows and began to back away.
"with you? i don't think boring exists,"
the boy chuckled and pulled on her hands to bring her closer.
y/n returned to her previous position and lingered there for a moment,
wondering what a life outside their secrecy would be like.
she imagined it would be days full of laughs.
and although their playful arguments would sometimes result in awkward silence,
ron would hold her close and make it all go away.
she began to imagine dates in hogsmeade,
where'd they kiss and hold hands like an actual couple.
and even spend holidays with his family.

"hey? where'd you go?"
ron asked,
pulling her attention away from the daydream.
"somewhere far away from here."
"tell me about it."
"perhaps another time. we've got places to be,"
she smiled and quickly placed one last kiss on his lips before the corridor filled with hogwarts students.

"what's the matter with you?"
draco asked as his sister appeared by his side.
the girl was too stuck in those daydreams of hers to notice him or his question.
"y/n?"
"oh! sorry...nothing i just had a bit of stomach pain. figured i'd see pomfrey in case it was something serious,"
she lied quickly with a shrug.
"mhm. well anyways, mother sent those sweets you enjoy so much. put them in my trunk earlier. i'll get them for you after dinner."
"sounds good. thank you."
"did father send you an owl?"
"yeah."
"about?"
he asked as they entered the great hall,
"the usual. seems you've been running off to tell him about my friends...again."
draco scoffed,
"and? it's shameful to see you taint our family name. hanging out with-with blood traitors and mudbloods. and that stupid potter. already hard enough having you sorted into gryffindor. but associating with them? god it's embarrassing."
"i'd rather not spend my time with the idiots you surround yourself with. that's embarrassing,"
she sighed and shook her head.
"and her name is hermione, idiot."
she stalked out of his company and into the peaceful welcoming of her friends presence.
y/n took her rightful seat next to hermione and across from ron,
giving him a sweet smile.
"feeling alright?"
harry asked the girl whose face was coated in hurt.
she nodded her head quickly,
trying to cover it.
"mhm."
ron tapped her foot from under the table,
a gesture of his affection.
she then shot him a grateful look and continued on with her meal.

y/n malfoy and hermione granger settled into their dorms,
wide awake and faces planted into the books.
"hey, y/n?"
"hm?"
"are-are you going to the ball?"
y/n looked up from her spell book and nodded,
"well, of course. are you?"
"krum asked me."
y/n slammed the book closed and gasped,
"hermione! oh my god! that's amazing!"
hermione smiled sheepishly and blushed,
shrugging her shoulders in an attempt to hide her excitement.
"feels rather childish, doesn't it? acting all giddy about some boy and a dance?"
"this isn't just a dance, 'mione, or a boy!"
"who are you going with?"
y/n grinned,
"you know who."
"sometimes i forget you two have been dating for these last three years. such a lack of-"
"i know! i just...can't risk draco finding out. things are already bad enough at home and it would just cause too much."
hermione nodded in understanding,
then pressed her lips together.
"so...what's your dress look like?"

the yule ball rolled around quicker than y/n would've preferred,
leaving her with no time to prepare like she had planned to.
with all her studying and thinking of ways to escape the tension at home,
it had almost completely slipped her mind.
"hey!"
ron whispered from around the corner as y/n wandered the corridors.
she smiled and met him where he stood,
his back pressed to the wall.
"so...the ball?"
"yes?"
"are you excited?"
"of course! just kind of sad we can't be there as an official couple, you know?"
"you worry too much, my love. it'll be fun. you'll be there with our friends and-and i'll be there. then after we'll meet in the common room like we do,"
he grinned and swung their linked hands,
earning a laugh from her lips.
"you're right. thank you."
he nodded and pulled her in closer by her waist,
attaching his lips to hers.
"i'll see you tonight. i can't wait,"
he winked and pushed himself off the wall,
raking his hands through her hair before parting their ways
she stayed back and smiled to herself,
slowly growing excited for the night ahead of her.
ron was right.
she'd dance around with ron, hermione, harry and all her other friends and no one would suspect a thing.
no one would know about her relationship with ron,
unfortunately.

"y/n... you're beautiful!"
hermione gasped with hands to her lips,
eyeing the way the dress clung itself to y/n's body in such a flattering way and the sight of her hair done so elegantly.
"me?! look at you! you're-you're gorgeous, hermione! however did you get your hair to cooperate?"
y/n joked with a giggle that hermione reciprocated.
they linked arms and made way to the ball,
feeling the eyes of their many peers that gasped in adoration and some envy.
ron gaped at the sight of y/n at the bottom of the stairwell,
burning the memory of her glowing skin and radiant smile into his memory.
"you look amazing, y/n,"
ron whispered as they entered the doors,
the loud music filling their ears.
"thank you,"
she mouthed and flipped his collar playfully.
"nice robes."
"nose down,"
he groaned.
y/n led her and her friends way to the dance floor,
doing as she imagined.
dancing the night away soon caused quite an ache in her feet not too long later,
where she'd meet with hermione at the table and sit down,
resting her body that was glistening with sweat.
"having fun?"
"loads,"
y/n answered with a smile so bright,
it began to hurt her cheeks.
eventually ron took a seat next to y/n and harry on the other side of hermione,
the group laughing and enjoying their conversations.
the once loud and upbeat music changed into the slow song,
everyone's mood changing.
y/n looked at the couples that held each other close and swayed so lovingly,
it made her jealous.
she, too, should be out there dancing with ron like the couple they are.
and almost as if ron had read her mind,
he extend his hand.
"may i have this dance?"
"are you mad?!"
she asked in a low whisper.
"what? no ones going to know! it's just a dance, y/n, come on. we deserve this."
she took his words into consideration,
before finally deciding.
"alright. let's go."
ron and y/n found their way to the dance floor and just like the other couples surrounding them,
swayed back and forth lovingly.
