the music trailed through the corridors as a lonely
y/n sat on the steps and hummed to herself,
enjoying her own company.
"y/n!"
hermione breathed out as she set eyes on y/n.
"hey! what's wrong?"
y/n asked,
rushing to the girls side as she took notice of the tears rolling down her face.
they took a seat on the steps again,
and hermione cried into y/n's arms about ron.
"he's just jealous, 'mione."
"he spoiled everything!"
"i know."
"how do you do it, y/n?"
"do what?"
y/n asked curiously.
"watch harry drool over cho. i see how you look at him, y/n."
the girl let out a sigh and shrugged.
"i just accept it for what it is. i cant change anything. if it's mean to be it will. also, if he doesn't come around within the next month i plan to slip him a love potion or something of the sort."
hermione let out a laugh,
which resulted in a laugh from y/n.
soon the two were doubled over on the stairwell,
laughing at the thought.
"but seriously, hermione. don't let ron ruin your evening. get back in there and dance with your bulgarian bonbon,"
y/n joked with a wink.
hermione giggled and rose to her feet,
thanking y/n as she rushed to find krum.
y/n sat there by herself again,
and smiled to herself before getting up and walking down a stray corridor.
the music was muffled,
but y/n could still make out the words.
she began to hum and dance to herself,
imagining this dance was shared with the only boy she wanted.
harry turned the corner in search of this girl after his talk with hermione,
and there she swayed back and forth elegantly.
she was truly mesmerizing.
he walked up to her carefully,
not being able to take his eyes off of her.
"y/n,"
he spoke suddenly.
y/n stopped and turned to see harry with his hands shoved in his pockets.
"i haven't seen cho if-"
"no! i'm here-i'm here for you,"
he laughed and extended his hand.
she took it with raised eyebrows,
harry feeling the warmth wash over him as her soft hand connected with his.
he pulled her in close and then began their dance,
y/n's giggles echoing as they did.
"you're a terrible dancer, potter! guess being the boy who lived only takes you so far, huh?"
"you'd be surprised. i can survive voldemort but can't pluck up enough courage to ask you ou- i mean find a date..."
y/n felt her cheeks rise with warmth,
a soft smile pulling at her lips.
"i understand. girls are a lot less scary than you-know-who, just got to know how to woo them. you know?"
"no, not really."
he lowered his head and laughed,
y/n laughing along with him.
"just go with what you feel is right."
"what if what i feel isn't what you-she feels."
"she feels it too,"
she spoke with a gentle tone to her voice.
harry swallowed hard and began to feel his heart pulsate in every inch of his body,
before finding his way to y/n's lips.
"there you two are!"
the voice interrupted,
making y/n and harry jump back.
"oh.. am i-am i interrupting something?"
cho asked.
"uh... yeah kind of,"
harry replied,
his hand finding its way to the back of his neck.
"oh okay. i'll-i'll be going then,"
the girl waved,
y/n returning the gesture.
quickly,
harry turned to her and grabbed her hands,
"i don't know what that was about, truly."
"i believe you. you look a little lost."
he laughed,
leaving a smile on y/n's face.
"do you wanna grab something to eat? away from everyone?"
"i'd love to."
"great. follow me,"
he latched his fingers around her hand and pulled her towards the kitchen,
where the house elves shuffled around her feet.
"oh!"
she exclaimed,
grinning big.
"harry potter! dobby is glad to see harry potter,"
the little house elf smiled up at the pair.
"has harry potter brought a friend?"
"dobby, this is y/n. y/n, dobby."
y/n lowered to dobby's level and shook his hand, smiling bright.
"nice to meet you dobby."
"dobby likes her very much!"
y/n giggled,
harry then grabbing onto her hand.
dobby set them up a small table in the secluded corner,
where dish after dish was being served.
"you really outdid yourself tonight,"
y/n nodded as she took a bite.
"you deserve it."
she smiled up at him.
"y/n, why were you in the corridor alone?"
she shrugged,
"i don't know. i didn't have much purpose in the ball itself. luckily enough i was there when hermione was upset."
"did you not have a date?"
"no i didn't."
"i'm sorry."
"for what? it's not like i was forced to go alone, harry. i just didn't want to go with any of the chaps who asked."
"if i had asked.. would you, you know, go with me?"
"can i be honest?"
he answered with the nod of his head.
"i was hoping you were going to ask me."
he choked on his drink at the words,
making y/n giggle while she tapped his back.
"why didn't you say something?!"
"i saw how close you and cho were becoming. i wasn't going to ruin anything, idiot."
he laughed at her words and lowered his head again,
"cho likes cedric."
"doesn't mean you don't like cho."
"i don't! i don't like her."
"is there someone else you fancy then, potter?"
harry knew she knew the answer by the way her lips curled in a grin.
"i-uh-i-"
"you can slay dragons, defeat the dark lord, and kill basilisks but can't tell me you like me, huh?"
"tell me about it."
they snickered together before he grabbed a hold of her hand again,
caressing her thumb with his rather nervously.
"would harry potter and his girlfriend like some food to take back?"
dobby asked with a great big smile.
harry's face began to turn a bright red.
y/n tried to suppress her giggle before she answered,
"we'd love some, dobby. thank you so much."
soon the two were walking back to their common room with a full stomach and racing hearts.
"you shouldn't be so nervous around me, potter. it's adorable but-"
"i know. i just can't help it. you're so intimidating!"
y/n turned on her feet and looked into harry's eyes.
he stepped closer to her and placed a hand at her cheek,
the pad of his thumb caressing it.
she leaned the weight of her head into his hand and smiled,
"can you promise me something?"
"anything."
"promise me you'll stop holding back."
he chuckled and nodded his head,
"i will, i promise."
she leaned forward and locked her lips onto his.
it was everything she could've imagined.
years of want were being poured out into this kiss,
making sure it was one he'd never forget.
harry tangled his hands into her hair,
feeling the fire and fervent from her heart.
"students out of bed!"
yelled filch from across the way,
y/n and harry breaking apart to quickly run to the common room before filch caught sight of their faces.
once they were safe inside,
y/n hovered over in a laugh with harry.
once they were calm and able to catch her breath,
she looked up at the boy in front of her.
"thank you for tonight. really turned it around for me."
"i'm sorry i never asked you to begin with."
"nothing to worry about. you've made up for it."
he smiled and pulled her in by her waist,
connecting their lips once more.
harry closed his eyes and burned her taste into his mind,
feeling overwhelming amounts of passion.
he pulled back slowly and placed his forehead to hers,
taking notice of her swollen lip.
he grinned to himself,
"y/n... would you-will you be my girlfriend?"
"of course."
"brilliant."
