ron laid his head to his arm while the great hall was full of loud chatter around him.
and though he wished he could engage into these conversations and eat like he once did,
he couldn't find the energy to do so anymore.
"ron? you have to eat eventually,"
hermione whispered,
pushing his plate towards him.
he picked his head up and looked down at it,
feeling his stomach churn.
"not hungry.
"cmon, mate. y/n wouldn't want you to do this to yourself,"
harry suggested.
ron sighed,
"it's hard, harry. where is she?"
"i...i don't know. but we're going to find her soon, okay?"
"it's been six months."
harry pressed his lips in a flat line and suddenly found himself at loss of an appetite as well.
ron laid his head back down and replayed his last moment spent with y/n.

"it's cold,"
y/n shivered and linked her arm with his,
walking towards the tea shop in hogsmeade.
ron chuckled and kissed the top of her head,
"i told you to wear something warm."
"mm, careful weasley. you're starting to sound like your mother."
the two of them laughed gleefully in the chilly wind,
but soon found comfort in the heat of the tea shop.
after they had spent about an hour together,
talking and joking like they had always done,
y/n got to her feet and ran a hand through his hair.
"i have to go get something. stay here, okay?"
"okay."
before she escaped past the doors,
she turned to ron with a smile so loving,
and whispered the euphoric words he had longed to hear from her lips,
"i love you, ron."
but before he could return it,
she exited the shop and left him there with a stunned look to his face.

ron cut the memory off there like he had always done,
because it was too sweet to ruin.
y/n hadn't returned back to the shop that day,
and she had disappeared right before his eyes.
six months had passed,
and no one had found even the slightest trace of her.
ron was left to ponder on her.
sometimes he laid awake and began to wonder if she was even alive.
but he quickly dismissed the thoughts and reminded himself that if y/n were truly gone,
he'd feel it.
y/n had once told him their souls were entwined,
and they had always known when something was wrong with one another.
even though y/n had vanished right before him,
she was alive and he knew it.
ron sighed and thought about y/n all the way up to his dorm room,
where he began to grow angry for letting her walk out alone.
i should've been there to protect her,
he thought while collapsing onto his bed.
beneath him laid a piece of paper.
he curiously folded it open,
but only felt his heart sink at the handwriting.
he recognized it instantly:
y/n's.

"dear ron,
It's been a while, i know.
i Miss you with everything my soul has to offer.
i wish to see you again.
but i don't think i'll make it long enough to.
they're letting me write you as a final goodbye.
i love you,
and i'll never stop.
please don't blame yourself any longer than you already have.
i don't Have to be there to know yOu're holding yourself responsible.
Move on too,
when you're wEll and ready.
you deServe to be hAppy again when i'm gone.
our love was something Very magical,
and i can't thank you Enough for Making my wishes in lifE come true.
i can die happy now.
i love you, ronald weasley.
-y/n l/n."
his eyes watered as he drew to the end.
he couldn't believe the words that were processing in his mind right now.
wherever y/n was,
she was slowly dying.
and the thought of her suffering was enough to make him ache deep within.
when harry entered to find ron quietly crying with a letter in hand,
his curiosity and worry for ron's wellbeing had heightened.
"ron? what is it?"
ron couldn't speak.
he only handed harry the letter and looked into the space around him emptily.
"ron...ron, she's sending you a message."
harry ripped a piece of parchment from his bag and began to find the capitalized letters to translate her message
"IM HOME. SAVE ME."
ron felt his heart rise to his throat.
he felt as though he could barely breathe.
her own blood,
her own family,
had ripped her away from the school grounds for their own personal gain.
ron didn't know much about y/n's immediate family.
aside from their loyalty to the dark lord and how far they were willing to go to prove that.
y/n remained in the care of her aunt up until now.
ron realized whatever they needed y/n for,
it was for the gain of you-know-who.
"h-harry...we have to find her. we have to save her."
"ron..do you even know where she lives?"
"she told me. she told me."
he began pacing the floor while trying to remember her address,
and then it clicked.
"get hermione. we have to leave..now."
***
after hours of traveling in search of y/n,
they finally found the remote area where her childhood house remained.
they quietly snuck in past the gates,
trying to fight the chills that erupted on their skin from the eerie place.
ron walked around to the back of the house,
where y/n could be found hovering over her own personal garden;
the light she created in this dark abyss.
his heart had nearly burst at the sight of her beauty in such an evil place.
but even better,
she was well and alive.
"y/n!"
he whispered out.
she quickly turned her head to meet him,
and there her eyes flooded with tears.
then she resorted to panic.
"oh my god,"
she muttered and let her hands fall to every inch of his body,
trying to hurry and make up for lost time.
but she quickly grabbed onto his hand and ran towards an empty, secluded area where they could talk in peace.
"where's harry and hermione? i know you didn't leave without them."
"they're looking around for you."
"you have to get them away. now, ron. you-know-who is coming soon and harry can't-"
"i will. just...let me look at you for a minute."
y/n smiled weakly and laid a hand to his chest,
where she could feel his racing heart.
"you have to find them before it's too late, my love."
ron kissed her cheek and let her perfumed scent cloud his lungs,
but he welcomed the stinging pain it brought.
he rushed past her to find harry and hermione,
then ushered them back to where y/n had been.
and there the four of them stood,
relishing in this tragic reunion.
"you're alive!"
hermione breathed out,
bringing y/n in for a tight hug.
y/n laughed darkly and hugged her close.
"you have to get out of here. especially you, harry. i don't know when they be-"
"are you mad? we-we're not leaving without you."
harry protested.
y/n's bottom lip quivered,
"they'll find me again, harry. i can't escape."
y/n's eyes turned to ron,
and he looked just as disheartened as she did.
she wrapped her arms around his torso,
leaving him to drape his arms around her.
he began to sob into the crook of her neck because he knew he'd never be able to love another like he did y/n,
and he refused to lose her.
"dumbledore will help you, y/n. please...you have to try. i won't lose you again."
she pulled back and wiped away ron's tears,
then sniffled herself.
"okay...let's-let's go."
***
after receiving the most strict protection from dumbledore himself,
y/n was welcomed back to hogwarts with open arms.
she often found herself lying in the bed of ron weasley as the day ended,
though it was entirely against her protection program.
but it didn't seem to matter to y/n anymore.
all she wanted was to be with ron,
for as long as she could be.
so here they laid,
their bodies tangled together as one,
feeling as though the world had come to a complete stop.
after six months of constant grieving and endless pain,
ron had finally found his way back into the arms of the girl he loved most.
"i thought i lost you, y/n,"
ron whispered,
tracing circles to her arm.
"i know..i'm sorry."
"for what? none of this is your fault, my love. you're here now, and that's all that matters."
she looked up at him,
eyes clouded with love.
"i thought about you everyday i was gone. you were the only thing that kept me sane there."
"y/n...what did they plan to do with you?"
"i'm not sure. but i knew it involved him and i was sure i wasn't going to live long."
"you can't talk like that anymore, okay? you're-you're here, and you're safe and i won't let anything happen to you ever again."
she smiled a warm smile then pulled a necklace from her pocket that was small in size,
but enough to make ron smile largely.
"what's this?"
he asked.
she opened the locket to reveal a moving picture of him and y/n at the burrow during christmas,
the snow piling in their hair and skin tinted with cold.
it had always been y/n's favorite picture,
and ron loved it now more than ever.
"this is what i went to get you that day. if you don't want it now because of-"
"don't be mental, y/n. it's amazing! i love it."
she smiled and watched as he put it on,
tucking it beneath his shirt to hold it closer to his heart.
"i never got to tell you, y/n. tell you that i love you more than life itself."
y/n smiled at the words and laid a kiss to his lips,
"i can't thank you enough for saving me, my love."
and there the two fell asleep,
together as one like it had always destined to be.
