"good luck today! you're gonna do great. as always,"
y/n smiled as she placed a friendly kiss on oliver's cheek,
watching his lips break into a smile.
"thank you. you're going to be there, right?"
"have i ever missed a game?"
he laughed and looked at the floor a bit shyly,
nodding his head.
"i've got to go but i'll see you after!"
"wait whe-where are you going?"
oliver asked,
rubbing the back of his neck.
"oh..well i told cedric i'd meet up with him before."
"cedric? cedric diggory?"
"yes?"
y/n laughed,
raising an eyebrow.
"but you always walk me down to the field?"
he questioned,
feeling a bit territorial over y/n all of a sudden.
"woah, wood. calm down. i still am, okay?"
"uh yeah..alright,"
he nodded and turned on his feet,
walking quickly away from y/n.
he was wondering why these random spurts of feelings for y/n were popping up more than usual.
he had always had romantic feelings for her,
but tried to ignore them in hopes they'd disappear so he could save their friendship.
but every time he saw her in the stands,
cheering for him and being her true self,
he couldn't help but fall a little harder.
or how she'd stay up past midnight to help him study.
sometimes it was the simplest of things too.
like when she'd wait for him by the portrait to walk to class.
or when she'd peck his cheek for good luck.
everything about y/n was perfect to oliver wood.
the boy who had been in hopelessly in love for years.
***
oliver played horribly.
and he cursed himself aloud and even more mentally for it.
y/n hadn't been there to walk him to the field.
she wasn't there to give him his kiss on the cheek,
or her tight hug.
no.
she had pushed him to the side to run to cedric diggory.
cedric didn't need her.
cedric had lived many years without her.
but oliver had barely went a week without being around y/n.
they had been best friends since childhood.
but cedric?
no, cedric had only been y/n's friend for his own benefit.
"hey! there you are,"
y/n cheered.
oliver had walked all this way without realizing.
he had been so distracted by his raging thoughts.
"yeah,"
he shrugged and walked past her,
scoffing at the yellow number on her cheek instead of the usual red number.
"what's wrong with you?"
she asked,
trying to catch up with his fast walking.
"oliver!"
she called out,
making him stop.
"what the hell is wrong with you?"
she asked with her hands extended out in confusion.
"cedric diggory? really?"
"oh oliver. you-you can't be mad!"
"why not?"
"i've been meeting you before your games since we were like five! i didn't think missing this one would bother you!"
"well it does! you saw how horrible i played today, yeah?"
"and you're blaming that on me?"
"i'm blaming you for being blind, y/n. you know as well as i do cedric is-is no good."
she scoffed and folded her arms across her chest.
"you cannot be serious."
"why not? i can't look out for you?"
"i don't need looking out for! we're not children anymore, oliver! i don't need you to run to my aid!"
"so this is how you're gonna prove yourself to everyone? by dating the biggest git this school has ever seen?"
"oliver!"
she yelled in a tone he had never heard his name in.
he nodded his head and walked away from her,
leaving her to stand there by herself.
she was confused and a little hurt by his actions.
her and oliver had rarely ever argued,
and this one felt too serious.
she sighed and looked around,
seeing cedric come up from behind.
"hey. i couldn't find you after the game. you alright?"
"yeah. i'm fine."
"what's wrong?"
"oliver and i just had the worst argument,"
she explained and laid her head on cedrics chest,
wishing that she was basking in oliver's cologne rather than cedrics.
***
"he still hasn't talked to me,"
y/n sighed as she took a seat next to cedric,
reaching for his hand for support after another failed attempt to talk to oliver.
but he pulled it back.
"look, y/n, i've enjoyed being with you but...i can't keep doing this."
"doing what?"
"listening to you obsess over oliver."
"he's my best friend, cedric."
"i get it but you sound so in love with him! i can't-i won't keep competing with him when i'm so obviously losing."
"no! no, you don't understand-"
"no i do. i get it, alright? just go get him, would you? it's obvious you two fancy each other."
he spoke and stood up from the seat,
leaving her alone to sit with the thoughts clouding her mind.
she stood up and before walking out of the door,
whispered an apology to cedric.
she then ran throughout the halls searching for oliver,
her heart racing with fear and excitement.
she saw him around his quidditch friends,
obviously barely interested in the conversation they were having.
"oliver!"
she called out,
making him jerk his head around.
he sighed,
walking away from her and his friends.
"oliver, please! wait!"
she ran after him,
realizing she wasn't going to be able to catch up with him.
"oliver, i'm in love with you!"
he stopped as the words processed,
turning on his feet slowly.
"what?"
he wanted to hear her say it again.
"i'm-im in love with you,"
she laughed as he walked closer to her.
"are you?"
"how many times are you gonna make me say it? yes!"
she laughed and felt his hands hold her face,
lining his lips with hers quickly.
she melted into his embrace and finally felt her prayers become answered before her.
oliver hesitantly pulled back,
the warmth piling in his body.
"i've waited so long to hear you say that,"
he admitted.
"should've said something way sooner. would've saved us a lot of time and trouble."
he laughed and pressed his lips to hers again,
not ever wanting to leave this moment.
he had finally got the girl he dreamed for after years of waiting.
and he didn't plan to let her go.
