"it's just a detention. you're familiar with those,"
she smiled and squeezed george's hand reassuringly.
"in the forbidden forest. that's not a regular detention. you-you could die out there."
"i'm not gonna die, georgie. relax, would you? hagrids gonna be there."
"yeah. you're right,"
he spoke trying to reassure himself.
y/n stopped in the middle of the corridor,
turning to face him.
he looked down at her,
feeling a smile toy at his lips at the sight.
"i love you."
"i love you too,"
he returned and bent to place a kiss on her lips.
"you'll wait up for me, won't you?"
"of course."
y/n pecked his cheek and walked into class,
taking their seats together.
george and y/n began to work on their transfiguration lesson,
the girl having to give george a few demonstrations and tips.
"you got it,"
she smiled at him proudly.
he stared at her adoringly,
loving everything about her.
he felt blessed.
like there was nothing greater in this world than the girl sitting in front of him.
"y/n?"
"yes?"
she answered,
turning her head to face him again.
"i'm gonna marry you one day."
he spoke suddenly,
the thoughts that clouded his mind were now speeding past his lips.
y/n giggled and nodded her head,
"can't wait."
he grabbed her hand,
pressing his lips to it.
"i'm serious,"
he mumbled.
she began to feel her cheeks deepen with heat.
"i know. i am too."
he met her in for a quick kiss and returned to their lesson,
y/n's body pulsating with love.
***
george sat in the common room,
looking at his watch that read "12:00"
y/n should've been back by now.
he yawned and looked out the window of the common room,
waiting to see her walk out the forest.
he began to grow a little worried but figured whatever it was they were doing,
hagrid was sure to keep them safe.
hesitant,
he walked up to his dorm and laid in the bed.
maybe i'll hear her walk in.
but as the thoughts drifted,
so did he.
***
he opened his eyes the next morning,
sitting up quickly.
"bad dream?"
fred snickered.
"no. what time is it?"
"eight a.m on the dot."
he sighed and began to dress himself,
preparing his apology for y/n.
he walked down to the common room to search for her,
but didn't see her anywhere.
"did you hear?"
george overheard seamus,
"the l/n girl got attacked last night in the forbidden forest. it's pretty nasty. they don't think she'll make it."
george's heart sank to the pit of his stomach,
becoming nauseous.
"what's wrong with you?"
ron asked as george stood frozen,
his face now pale.
"y/n..."
was all he could mutter.
his girlfriend,
who had just promised to spend the rest of his life with,
was now fighting for her life?
the wind was knocked out of him at the thought.
"what? what happened to y/n?"
hermione asked at rons side,
clutching onto his arm in worry.
"where is she?"
"we-we don't know. we haven't seen her since yesterday."
george nodded and walked past them,
opening the portrait hole to find word of her.
the tears began to rise quickly,
the wind burning his eyes as he shuffled through the people crowding the halls.
george felt as if his heart had been ripped out of his chest.
this wasn't how it was supposed to happen.
they were supposed to graduate together,
marry each other,
live a full and long happy life together.
his knees began to grow weak as he rounded the hospital wing,
opening the doors quickly.
"george!"
the angelic voice of y/n called out.
he watched, in shock, as she sprinted towards him and grabbed him into her embrace.
her warm and gentle scent,
which he now appreciated more than ever,
settled into his lungs.
he held her tight and melted into her arms,
thanking whoever was above for keeping her alive.
the hug seemed to have lasted longer than y/n expected,
but she loved it.
george kissed the top of her head and sighed,
y/n pulling back to look.
"why were you crying, my love?"
she asked,
wiping away the tears with the pad of her thumb.
he smiled at her and felt his heart quiver at the words.
she was so caring and loving towards him.
he was forever grateful for her.
"seamus said you were-"
he could barely manage to speak the words,
"said you were practically dead."
y/n snickered and shook her head.
he looked into her eyes and noticed she had been crying too.
"no. it's my sister. she wandered off in the forest and-and-"
her voice cracked,
the knot forming in her throat.
"oh love. i'm so sorry,"
he whispered and pulled her into his chest again,
her body beginning to shake with cries.
he ran his hands through her hair and whispered words of consolation.
y/n looked up,
george being the one to wipe away her tears this time.
"she's gonna be alright. she's gonna wake up, and we're all gonna go back to stupid charms class and enjoy our year like this never happened,"
he nodded,
giving her a smile to which she mirrored.
his smile was too contagious not to.
"what if she never-"
"no, no. none of that. she's going to wake up, okay?"
she nodded and felt his soft and warm lips place themselves on her forehead.
he reached for her hand and intertwined their fingers,
walking to sit around her sister.
y/n sighed and leaned her aching head against george's shoulder.
"have you been to sleep?"
george asked.
"i took a little nap earlier."
"in here?"
"yeah."
she sat up and covered her mouth,
"oh my god i'm so sorry. i forgot i told you to wait up for me. oh george i-"
he put a hand up to stop her,
"calm down. it's alright."
"you were worried, weren't you?"
"of course i was."
she went quiet for a moment before blurting:
"i'm so in love with you, george."
the boy smiled,
the words burning in the back of his mind.
"are you?"
"there's not a doubt in my mind."
he shook his head and wrapped an arm around her,
laying her head down in his lap.
"i can't blame you. i mean, i am the best looking guy in this school."
they laughed together as he strung his fingers through her hair.
"no but seriously, im madly in love with you too. i can't imagine my life without you, y/n.."
"you won't have to."
"good."
he continued to play with her hair and tell silly stories,
y/n's body soon completely relaxing as she drifted off to sleep for the first time in hours.
***
days went by and each day,
george sat with y/n by her sister in the hospital.
she was eternally grateful for him.
she couldn't have been more blessed.
she could never seem to figure out the words to say to make sure he knew how grateful she was,
but every time he looked into her eyes he could see the love and gratuity swimming around,
knowing exactly what she was thinking without her having to say a word.
"here,"
george spoke as he handed y/n a sandwich from the great hall and a water bottle,
sitting down to wrapping an arm around her.
"thank you,"
she smiled and began to eat.
"you going to class today?"
he asked.
she answered with the shake of her head,
"i wanna be here in case she wakes up."
"when she wakes up,"
george corrected.
"when she wakes up,"
she repeated and patted the boy's hand lovingly.
"you should be leaving soon or you'll be late."
he looked at his watch and nodded,
standing up to leave.
he hugged her tightly,
placed his lips on hers,
and made sure y/n knew he loved her.
she watched george walk out,
the smile across her lips not fading any.
he had been such a great help in this hard time.
y/n sat back down and watched as her sister began to squirm.
"alice!"
y/n gasped and hovered over her,
her eyes slowly opening.
"y/n i saw the biggest spider in the forbidden forest. pretty sure it bit me,"
alice spoke with a croak in her tone.
"no shit!"
her sister sat up and looked around,
scratching her head.
"how long have i been in here?"
"a week."
"bloody hell,"
alice muttered under her breath and looked at her older sister,
whose eyes were baggy from the lack of sleep and red.
"why were you crying?"
"because i thought you died, idiot! what'd you wander off for anyways?!"
"because i saw a huge spider! i was curious.."
"you almost died, alice! it's not funny... you owe hagrid an apology, and madam pomfrey a huge thank you!"
"i know i know. i'm sorry, really."
y/n sighed and wrapped her arms around her younger sister.
"where's george?"
"class."
"i might've been in a coma but i could still hear you two! torture. i'd rather take another spider bite before having to deal with that again."
y/n shot her a look.
"i'm kidding! anyways, you're really in love with him, aren't you?"
"oh...yeah. he's the one for me, you know?"
"sure..."
y/n laughed and rolled her eyes jokingly at her sisters playful tone.
***
george walked into the nursery immediately after his last class,
seeing y/n and alice laughing together.
"you're up! looking a bit peaky though, aren't you?
george smiled.
"haha,"
alice mocked,
"i suppose being in a coma will do that to you. you should try it sometime, weasley, maybe we'll all get some peace and quiet!"
everyone chuckled.
"good to have you back kid,"
george spoke and lightly tapped alice on her shoulder.
once alice was back asleep,
y/n and george walked up to the common room with their hands intertwined.
"thank you for everything. i really appreciate you being there for me."
"never a problem my love. i know you'd do it for me."
george realized how fragile life was,
and y/n was beginning to see it too.
tomorrow was never promised.
george looked at y/n,
whose eyes had confirmed she was thinking the same thing he was.
he then pressed her back to the wall softly,
where she let out a soft gasp as the passion overcame george.
their lips were now moving together in perfect sync,
the palms of her hands against his abdomen.
"i love you,"
he spoke barely above a whisper,
his lips ghosting hers.
"i love you,"
she returned in the same tone.
george knew this was the girl destined for him.
and as their bodies became intertwined as one,
he had never been so certain about anything in his life.
