One Day

The sound of laughter and screams of little children filled the air. Jian Yi watched on as his daughter went down the slide at the children's park. She glanced at him and he grinned in response. "Well done!" He clapped for her.

She giggled and ran back around the other side to go down again. Jian Yi turned his head when he heard the sound of laughter. A lady was sat next to him on a bench and she glanced at him. "Oh I'm sorry, I just noticed how adorable she is. Is she yours?"

Jian Yi's mind flashed to the adoption agency before he smiled at her. "Yes." He smiled fondly at his child.

"How old is she?" The lady asked before pointing to a blonde little girl playing in the sandpit. "She's mine. She's 6."

Jian Yi turned to the lady in excitement. "Ooh! So is Bo*! She's my precious angel and the smartest little lady I've ever had the pleasure of knowing."

The lady stared at Jian Yi before patting his shoulder. "You're a good dad."

Jian Yi turned to her once more before turning his head to the side. "Huh?"

"You know a good parent when you see one. It's how you talk about her and how you look at her. I can tell she is well loved. Do you have a partner or is it just you?"

Jian Yi hesitated, not sure as to how her attitude would change when she found out he's married to a man. "I have a partner. Actually, they should be finished with work soon and coming to meet us here."

As if on cue, Jian Zheng Xi walked over to the bench. "Hey, sorry I'm late. I was asked to stay behind to finish some paperwork." He sat down next to Jian Yi before looking around the park. It didn't take him long to spot Bo. She had long, black hair and was loud and energetic as she played with the other children. A 'wild child' as Zheng Xi liked to call her.

Jian Yi glanced at the lady, ready to hear all kinds of bad things but instead he was met with surprise that turned to warmth. "You know, I moved here recently with my husband and two children. I think the younger one could use some permanent friends to play with. How about we meet up for a play date?"

Jian Yi's face lit up. "Yes please! Bo always loves playing with new people." Zheng Xi watched in confused amusement as the pair exchanged contact information before turning when he heard someone calling out to him.

"Papa!" Bo came running over and jumped into his arms before wrapping her small arms around his neck. Zheng Xi never got tired of hearing her call him that.

"Has my good girl behaved today?" He asked as he touched the end of her nose.

She giggled and nodded. "Yep! Daddy and I ate some fruit then we had a nap then we came to the park."

Zheng Xi looked at Jian Yi with a raised eyebrow. "A nap, huh?"

Jian Yi shrugged his shoulder and avoided eye contact, looking sheepish. "What? I was tired."

Zheng Xi breathed out a laugh before he put Bo back down. "Go play some more. We'll be going home soon." She nodded before running off to the sandbox.

When they arrived home, Bo was asleep in Zheng Xi's arms and he placed her to bed before joining his husband on the couch. He put his arms around Jian Yi's shoulders before kissing him on the forehead. "You sure do have a way with people, don't you."

"What do you mean?"

"That's the fifth person that you've arranged play days with for Bo. I don't get how you do it."

Jian Yi nodded his head proudly. "Oh, my dear Xixi, don't be jealous of my impressive social skills. I could teach you if you want."

Zheng Xi pulled Jian Yi's face towards him. "I'm not jealous, I'm proud. It's one of the reasons I fell in love with you." Silence stunned them both before they glanced away from each other, both bright red. Jian Yi tugged of Zheng Xi's shirt. "What is it?" He asked, still avoiding looking at him.

"I wanna kiss."

Zheng Xi looked at his husband to find him looking at his with his lips pouting and his cheeks flushed. He leaned in and their lips met. When they pulled apart, Zheng Xi put his head against Jian Yi's. "I appreciate you more than you'll ever know. Both you and our daughter. I love you."

Jian Yi threw himself at Zheng Xi, causing them to fall back onto the couch. "Xixi! You'll make me cry." He sniffed before pulling himself up to give Zheng Xi another kiss. "I love and appreciate you too, Xixi. I always have."
