One Day

Guilt. That was the first emotion that tore through He Tian's chest as he took in the sight of a bloody Mo Guan Shan. After guilt quickly followed anger and sadness. It felt like someone was ripping his heart apart.

He took long strides towards Guan Shan until their bodies were touching. He Tian's hands went straight to Guan Shan's face, who had closed his eyes with a frown. He tried to push He Tian's hands away but to no avail. He Tian wasn't letting him go again.

"What happened to you?" He Tian whispered, tension held in his voice as he spoke. "Jesus, you're soaking wet." He grabbed the white top and plastic bag of water with a fish inside Guan Shan was holding and placed it on the ground before grabbing the hem of Guan Shan's shirt and pulling it off him. He took his own white shirt off and put it on Guan Shan. He didn't miss the fresh bruises that covered his ribcage before he pulled him close once again.

Guan Shan shook his head and attempted to speak. "Don't," he started, but it came out as a choked whisper and he started to cough, holding his red throat as if it was hard to speak.

He Tian gripped Guan Shan's chin gently between his thumb and finger and lifted it, exposing his neck. A red line cut across it with spots of blood dotted around. Small cuts lightly grazed the top of his skin and He Tian could only think the worst. Had he tried to hurt himself, or did someone do this to him?

"Who did this to you?" He Tian asked more firmly. Tears glistened in Guan Shan's eyes as he stared into He Tian's grey ones. He Tian's shirt tightened as Guan Shan clung onto it as if his life depended on it. Guan Shan opened his mouth but no sound came out. A tear fell down Guan Shan's cheek and He Tian couldn't take it anymore - he pulled Guan Shan into a hug and held him tightly.

Guilt crushed him once again, he felt guilty about Guan Shan losing his job, about their argument, about waiting for him and not going to find him straight away. He didn't know what to do and realised he'd probably spend the rest of his life watching over and protecting Guan Shan from all those that could do him harm.

Slowly, Guan Shan released his grip on He Tian's shirt and his legs gave out. He Tian caught him and looked at his face to find that Guan Shan had passed out. He got flashbacks from the time they had run from the group of men that had hit Guan Shan with a  baseball bat and had to go to the hospital.

He Tian sat down on the ground and pulled Guan Shan into his lap, his head resting on He Tian's shoulder. He tian pulled Guan Shan into him as much as he could before he pulled his phone out and called the only person he could think of in his emotional state.

"Brother? I need you."

Two sets of footsteps approached and He Tian looked up to see He Cheng and Brother Qiu staring down at him, both with almost concerned looks on their faces.

"What happened?" He Cheng asked.

"I found him like this. He passed out before I called you." He Tian struggled to talk. The time he spent waiting for his brother to show, he had looked over Guan Shan's injuries and had worked himself up, rage and sadness playing tug-of-war in his chest.

"He's your friend right? The ginger boy you're always with. We paid off his debt and hospital bills before. What kind of boy is this?" He Cheng asked gingerly, not wanting to further upset his brother.

"He's a good boy, brother. He doesn't find trouble, trouble always finds him." He Tian looked down at Guan Shan's pale face, still unconscious.

Brother Qiu stepped forward. "We should probably get the boy to the hospital. He's looking a little banged up." Brother Qiu bent down slightly and held out his hand to grab Guan Shan. Instinctively, He Tian held onto him tighter and glared at Brother Qiu.

"Don't touch him!" He yelled, desperation and possessiveness growled deep in his voice.

He Cheng put his hand on Brother Qiu's shoulder and pulled back slightly as if telling him to back off for now. He Cheng bent down in front of his brother, maintaining a slight distance. He Tian watched him with wide eyes strained with guilt.

"Tian, calm down. No one is going to take him away from you. We're here to help. He's hurt, badly, and needs medical attention. Isn't that why you called me here, to help? Let me help you, brother."

A stray tear ran down He Tian's cheek. "I shouldn't have left him alone. I can't leave him alone again."

He Cheng slowly put a hand on He Tian's shoulder. "You don't have to." Slowly, He Cheng reached out and took Guan Shan from He Tian. The pair stood up, He Tian picking up Guan Shan's shirts and the fish, and stuck close to his older brother. He Cheng looked at Brother Qiu out of the corner of his eye. "Start the car."

Brother Qiu nodded. "Yes.
