One Day

Mo Guan Shan checked his watch for what seemed like the 100th time. He had been standing outside the restaurant for almost 20 minutes and the dinner reservation he had made was about to be cancelled. He was about to leave when a voice called out to him.

"Hey! You're Mo Guan Shan, right?"

Guan Shan turned to see a man the same age as him with short spiky hair that was sunkissed blonde. He was pretty in the face with full plump lips and his eyes took on a gold shine. He was slightly taller than Guan Shan and you could see that he clearly worked out, even under his coat.

"Dong Hao*?" Guan Shan turned back and admired his suiter. He was definitely attractive and Guan Shan secretly thanked his mother for setting him up with one of her friend's sons.

Dong Hao flashed a pearly white grin and came close to Guan Shan. "Sorry I'm late, I didn't realise the time. Woah, mother was right about your hair. Is it really that ginger or did you dye it? Bet you dyed it, right?"

Any attraction to the man instantly died along with his smile and he secretly cursed his mother for setting him up. The next person who asked him about his hair was getting a slap.

Guan Shan sighed and ignored the questions. "Come, they're gonna cancel our reservation otherwise."

The pair walked in and were seated in the middle of the restaurant. The place was fancy and definitely not something Guan Shan could afford back when he was in school. As he took his coat off and was about to place it on the back of the chair, he stopped midway as a pair of grey eyes caught his own.

Guan Shan's eyes widened as he recognised the owner of those eyes. He Tian. How many years had it been since he saw him? Too many at this point. It seemed that he was on his own date as he sat opposite a man with shoulder-length fiery red hair. A slow smile crawled across He Tian's face and Guan Shan broke eye contact before sitting down.

Dong Hao looked behind him at He Tian's table and raised an eyebrow at Guan Shan. "Someone you know?"

Guan Shan shook his head slightly. "Just someone I used to date back in middle school."

Dong Hao looked back again. "Bet I could beat him." He mumbled.

Guan Shan frowned. "What?"

Dong Hao smiled brightly again as he settled into his seat. "Nothing. So, what are we having? I'm starving."

The longer the date went on, the more Guan Shan regretted coming. Not only was he sitting within a 20-foot radius of his ex, but his current date was also the most boring and self-centred man he knew. Dong Hao had done nothing but talk about his job and home life, which Guan Shan presumed was normal, but he hadn't had the chance to say five words in return. Worst of all, Dong Hao was speaking with his mouth full of food.

Guan Shan wanted to leave but didn't want to seem rude, he wasn't used to these social situations and how to deal with them. Also, he seemed to be playing some sort of game with He Tian. The two couldn't keep their eyes off each other, not that either of their dates seemed to notice, and Guan Shan had almost choked on his water when He Tian had winked at him.

"So," Dong Hao called, suddenly drawing Guan Shan's attention back to him. "What say we go get ourselves a hotel room after this. I think things are going great and I can feel this spark between us." He patted his pockets and looked up with a cheeky grin. "Oh no, seems like I've left my wallet at home. Do you mind?"
