One Day

"Ow, He Tian, you're hurting me." Mo Guan Shan called out as He Tian's grip on his wrist tightened. He Tian was dragging him through an abandoned office building up the stairs and into one of the offices on the top floor.

He Tian ignored him and scanned his surroundings - the office was in chaos with broken desks, tipped-over chairs and smashed computers. The emergency lights were only just working, with some flashing and the moonlight shining through the window casting an eery glow on the two men as they walked further into the room.

He Tian pulled Guan Shan in front of him and placed him in the first up-right chair he saw before kneeling down and resting a hand on his thigh. "I'm sorry you have to go through this, Little Mo. I wanted you safe but that prick just won't leave you alone."

Guan Shan let out a heavy sigh and placed his hand on He Tian's arm. "It's not your fault. You've looked after me so far, that bastard She Li hasn't gotten me yet."

He Tian smiled and moved Guan Shan's hand to cradle his face and he closed his eyes. "Don't jinx it, Redhead. And don't say 'yet' either. He's not getting his hands on you as far as I'm concerned." He Tian opened his eyes and pressed two fingers to his earpiece as someone spoke to him through it. He looked Guan Shan in the eye as his shoulders sagged. "I have to go." He stood up.

"What, why?" Guan Shan stood with him and gripped the edge of He Tian's black bulletproof vest.

"She Li has been spotted near the building. I need to go and check." He Tian put a hand on Guan Shan's cheek. "Stay here."

He turned and started walking away but Guan Shan followed him. "Wait, no. Can't you stay and someone else go? Why do you have to leave?"

He Tian turned around and pulled Guan Shan to him, kissing his forehead. "You know it has to be me. That snake is too slippery for anyone else. Joining the mafia has made him pick up his skills. If I don't get him, no one will. Besides, he made it personal deciding to come for you."

Guan Shan gripped his arm. "I don't want you to go." He whispered, looking down. "You better fucking come back, you hear me? Damn Chicken Dick."

He Tian smiled and kissed his forehead again. "I'll be back, Redhead. Don't worry." And with that he left, leaving Guan Shan to watch the door shut behind him.

"That was quite the show. Very romantic."

Guan Shan spun around, his heart in his throat, to see She Li sitting on the chair he had previously been sitting in. Guan Shan's mouth gaped open in surprise as he looked around the room trying to find how She Li got into the room. "How-"

"Well now, it's all very simple, Red. I came through that door before you and He Tian was ever here. It seems that although He Tian wanted to keep you away from me, he's delivered you right to me." She Li stood up and pointed a gun at Guan Shan.

Guan Shan swallowed, nervous. He'd been around guns since He Tian had been on his protection duty but he'd never had one pointed at him before. "What do you want with me?" He asked, his voice betraying his nervousness.

She Li stared at him a moment before starting to slowly walk towards Guan Shan, the gun still trained on him. "Honestly, I hadn't thought about you since middle school but then I hear word of He Tian not only still hanging around you but being your personal bodyguard and boy, did that piss me off. Why does he get to have you and I don't?"

She Li was close enough now for Guan Shan to see all the small scars littering his face and neck. His bloodshot eye caught Guan Shan's attention and he hated that glimmer of worry that passed over him. Guan Shan moved forward and pushed the gun out of the way before reaching up and touching She Li's face. She Li sighed and closed his eyes as if he craved his touch.

"What happened?" Guan Shan whispered as he rubbed next to She Li's bloodshot eye.

The hand with the gun curled around Guan Shan's back and pulled him in, his eyes still closed. "Everybody's got a boss, Mo Guan Shan, and I just pissed mine off trying to get you back."

Slowly, Guan Shan reached behind him and, as quick as he could, took the gun from She Li before moving backwards and pointing it at him. "To get someone back, you have to have them first, and I was never yours, fucker."

She Li's face and voice were void of emotion as he looked Guan Shan in the eye. "You need to have a steady hand if you're going to shoot someone, Mo Guan Shan."

Guan Shan hadn't realised he was shaking until that moment. He'd never touched a gun and wasn't even sure if the safety was off. "You shouldn't have come! You should have left me the fuck alone!" He shouted, making his hands shake even more.

She Li smiled, sending cold shivers down Guan Shan's back. "You won't shoot me, you can't. You've always been soft like that, Mo Guan Shan." He started walking towards Guan Shan, who was backing up.

"Stop it! I'm serious. Please!" Guan Shan begged. He tripped over a chair and sent the gun spinning across the floor under a desk. He back up across the ground and as She Li reached out for him, a gunshot echoed around the room and She Li fell backwards with a grunt.

He Tian came into sight, a wild look on his face. "Shit, are you alright Little Mo? Did that fucker hurt you?"

Guan Shan scrambled up and over to He Tian, holding onto his arm as if it was his lifeline. Fearing his voice would give out, he just shook his head no. Turning to look, Guan Shan watched the blood pool around She Li's body. "Is-is he dead?" He asked, distressed.

He Tian shook his head. "No, I shot him in the shoulder. That asshole is lucky." He put his arm around Guan Shan. "Come, let's get you out of here."

They turned and Guan Shan noticed a small group of men wearing the same uniform as He Tian walking toward She Li. They stopped and turned when She Li called out. "This isn't the end, Mo Guan Shan," He coughed, sounding out of breath. "I'll come to get you again."

"Good luck with that, asshole." He Tian retorted before pulling Guan Shan closer and exiting the room.
