One Day
Brother Qiu used his hand to shade his eyes from the sun as he looked around the near full beach before he glanced out of the corner of his eye to the four boys that were whispering to each other and sneaking looks his way. He narrowed his eyes in suspicion and wondered what they were up to. They've been like this since we picked them up. It was slowly getting on Qiu's nerves.
"Ignore them, Qiu. They're being children. Let them be."
Qiu turned towards He Cheng, who was sat at a picnic table under the shade of an umbrella. Qiu huffed and joined them and noticed the whispering intensified. "Why did we bring them again?"
"Because Tian asked if we would take him." He Cheng raised his head a little, clearly proud.
"Careful, your brother complex is showing again."
He Cheng glanced at Qiu but said nothing. They both turned as the four teens walked their way across the sand. He Tian and his friend, Mo Guan Shan, approached He Cheng and Jian Yi with his friend, Zhan Zheng Xi, approached Qiu.
"Come," He Tian said to his brother as he gestured towards the food stands. "Little Mo and I are getting hungry. Feed us." He threw his arm around Guan Shan's shoulders, who looked like he would rather be anywhere else but here.
At the same time, Jian Yi grabbed Qiu's arm and started dragging him from the bench. "Brother Qiu! Brother Qiu! I wanna run around the beach! Xixi said he would time me to see how fast I've gotten but running across sand is hard, I need you to show me some good techniques to run faster."
He Cheng and Qiu shared a look of confusion before they both succumbed to the needy children that were begging for their attention. Qiu watched He Cheng follow He Tian and Guan Shan before he sighed loudly and took off his shoes and socks. A few hours passed and the sun was beginning to set and Jian Yi was panting on the ground. It was then that Qiu had noticed that He Cheng and the two boys hadn't returned.
He pulled out his phone to call him when Jian Yi lunged forward and hung off his arm, Qiu easily able to hold his entire body weight off the ground. "Wait! There's something we want to show you. It's a secret."
Qiu tried to shake Jian Yi off. "I don't care about your childish secrets. Get off me."
"But it's the best thing you'll ever see in your life. If you come with us, I'll run more laps when we go home." Jian Yi was clinging to Qiu's arm like his life depended on it.
Qiu stared at him for a moment and raised an eyebrow. "Without any complaints?"
Jian Yi nodded. "Done."
Qiu looked up at Zheng Xi who was silently standing back watching the situation. "And your friend has to run too. No complaints." Zheng Xi and Qiu stared at each other for a moment before Zheng Xi looked away and nodded.
"Fine."

After buying enough food to feed the entire beach, He Tian dragged Guan Shan and He Cheng around to check out the different stalls and games that were around them. Eventually they came across an amusement arcade and were dragged inside by He Tian's stubbornness. He Cheng stood in the corner and provided the money for them to play on the machines and held the toys they both won, although, Guan Shan seemed more interested in the competitive games.
After a few hours, He Cheng was getting irritated with holding their things in the corner. He came here to spend time with his brother, not watch him enjoy himself from a distance. He Tian suddenly looked at his phone and nodded at Guan Shan and it reminded He Cheng that he hadn't heard from Qiu at all. He walked over to the two boys.
"Time to go. Qiu is probably wondering where we are."
Guan Shan and He Tian looked at each other, silently communicating, before they turned back to He Cheng. "Sure," He Tian nodded and waved his phone in the air. "but I got a text from Jian Yi that they've gone back to your room to wait for us."
He Cheng nodded and gave them their stuff back. They made their way back to the hotel and got into the elevator. As it went up, He Cheng noticed that Guan Shan was getting more and more fidgety as they got closer to the floor they were staying on.
"Something wrong?" He raised an eyebrow.
Guan Shan whipped his head round and stared with an awkward expression. He Tian threw his arm around the ginger boy's shoulders and grinned at his brother. "Nah, he's good. Probably just annoyed because he kept losing to me at the games."
Guan Shan elbowed He Tian. "Chicken Dick. You cheated. You kept distracting me with," he glanced back at He Cheng. "you know what."
Before He Tian could respond or He Cheng ask what he was talking about, the elevator door opened and Guan Shan practically ran out of the elevator. The two followed him and halfway down the hallway, He Tian's phone dinged. He looked at it then gave He Cheng a wide eyed expression.
"Jian Yi just texted. It said 'help'."
He Cheng bolted down the rest of the corridor and used the key card to open the door. He burst inside and saw no danger, only the strangest thing he'd ever seen. The room had been dimmed and rose petals littered the ground and the bed. Before the bed sat a table and two chairs. Upon the table were more rose petals and two sets of silverware as well as two platters.
Jian Yi and Zheng Xi were sat on the bed talking to Qiu, who was in the corner of the room rubbing his eyes. The boys turned to the door and Zheng Xi and Jian Yi quickly stood and walked to the exit. As they left and went to shut the door, He Cheng turned and grabbed it, making eye contact with He Tian.
"What's going on, Tian?"
"What does it look like, Brother? A nice, little date for you two. Hey, let's all have a triple date soon."
"What are you talking about? Stop closing the door. I thought you said Jian Yi said 'help'?" The pair were in a power struggle with the door.
"He did. That was the code to let me know everything was ready. You two will have dinner together in the beautiful setting the lovely hotel staff set up for you. If you two don't sit down and eat together, I'll never speak to you again and I'll make sure Jian Yi and Zhan Zheng Xi run away together to where you can never make him train again."
He Cheng faltered before letting the door go. He Tian closed it and He Cheng could hear them walking away and going into their own room next door. He turned around noticed Qiu was watching him. He breathed out a laugh and shook his head as he took a seat at the table.
"Suppose we should do as the rugrats say, huh?"
Qiu chuckled before taking his own seat. "They were planning this all along, weren't they?"
"Seems like it. Suppose we shouldn't waste good food." He Cheng picked up his cutlery.
"Enjoy."
