One Day
The sound of two male voices woke Mo Guan Shan from his deep sleep.
"Just give him to me."
He struggled to open his eyes as his head started pounding. His breathing picked up in quick and short bursts as he felt like a weight was sitting on his chest.
"Are you out of your mind?! There's no way in hell I'm giving him to you."
Guan Shan sat up and instantly regretted it as a wave of nausea hit him and the room span around him as dizziness hit him like a ton of bricks. He leaned over the side of the bed and heaved but nothing came up. He wasn't surprised as he hadn't eaten all day.
"We both know there's nothing you can do to help him. I can make him better and you know it."
She Li? What is he doing here? The other voice must belong to He Tian. Mo Guan Shan pulled the cover off himself and threw his legs over the side of the bed. Looking down at himself, he realised He Tian must have changed him as he was wearing a different set of pyjamas. He'd have to get changed again, however, because he was covered in a cold sweat.
"I'm doing things my own way. I'm not letting you have him, you demon. You won't bring him back if you take him with you and it's not God's will for you to take him."
Guan Shan stood on shaky legs, determined to stop this pointless argument. Guan Shan had already been asked by She Li to go with him previously to make him better on the condition of never returning but he had refused. He wouldn't leave He Tian - not now, not ever.
"He'll die," Guan Shan flinched and stopped at She Li's words, "Is that your God's will, Angel? If I don't take him with me, he won't live much longer. And you trying to save him isn't working any better now than it did when he first fell ill."
Guan Shan opened the door, causing the Angel and demon to both turn to him. "I'd rather die by He Tian's side and know I'll be with him in Heaven than live a long life, knowing I'll be going to Hell when I eventually die."
He Tian rushed over as Guan Shan started to collapse, and placed him on the sofa. "What are you doing out of bed? You know you're too weak to move around." The concern in his eyes made Guan Shan's heart hurt.
"You're the weak one, Chicken Dick. I'm perfectly fine." He glanced up at She Li. "You shouldn't be here, you need to leave."
"Mo Guan Shan, you-" She Li took a step closer.
"I said I'm fucking fine!" Guan Shan shouted. He gasped and leaned forward as another wave of nausea hit him.
He Tian bent down and rubbed Guan Shan's back and whispering comforting words in his ear before turning cold eyes towards She Li. "You should leave."
She Li shrugged and shook his head. "Fine, but that was my final offer. It was nice knowing you, Mo Guan Shan." He spoke with sincerity before disappearing into the shadows.
"Come," He Tian helped Guan Shan to stand, "let's get you back into bed."
He Tian sat Guan Shan down on the edge of the bed and pulled his top over his head. Streaks of sweat dotted his stomach and chest and He Tian used a damp cloth to clean him. It was when a droplet fell onto He Tian's hand did he look up at Guan Shan's face. Tears were starting to run down his cheeks and he had seemed to have gotten paler in a matter of minutes.
"I'm sorry," Guan Shan choked out. "I don't mean to be like this, I don't wanna burden you, but I'm just so damn miserable."
He Tian reached up and wrapped his arms around the fragile being. His heart squeezed in his chest. He loved Guan Shan so much but didn't know how to help him. Tears stung his own eyes but he held them back.
After a while, Guan Shan started to go limp in He Tian's arms where he had tired himself out so He Tian put a fresh shirt on him and put him back into bed. He wiped Guan Shan's face with a fresh cloth before going out to make some soup for him to have in the morning. It was probably the only thing he could cook without ruining. He wasn't used to all the human things.
Putting the soup in the fridge, He Tian came and sat in the chair by Guan Shan's bed. He watched him sleep, thinking of all the times they had spent together. The more he thought, the stronger his love for Guan Shan grew. He had to find a way to save him and desperation was slowly clawing at his heart.
*
He Tian blinked and glanced out the window, realising it was morning. Panting noises made his heart leap in panic and his eyes went to Guan Shan. The redhead had removed the cover as sweat poured off him. His face was contorted into one of pain and his breathing was racing in short, quick breaths. He Tian leapt out of the chair to Guan Shan's side and put his hand on the redhead's forehead. He was burning hotter than normal. He Tian looked him over and noticed with dread that the boy was glowing slightly.
His soul was trying to leave his body.
Mo Guan Shan was dying.
And there was nothing He Tian could do to stop it.
He Tian cried out in fear and utter defeat as he watched Guan Shan struggle to breathe. He glanced up and his heart dropped when he realised there was only one thing left he could do. He picked up Guan Shan and spread his wings before speeding out of the bedroom window into the early morning sky.
He couldn't let Guan Shan die. He wouldn't.
"I suppose desperation made you come to your senses, Angel."
He Tian had landed in an abandoned house and turned around to find She Li standing in the doorway.
Tears ran down his face. "I can't save him."
"I know." She Li's voice was surprisingly soft. "Are you sure this is what you want? You'll never see him again."
"Him living away from me is better than dying in my arms." He Tian bend down and sat on the floor with Guan Shan in his arms. He kissed his forehead for a minute before looking up at She Li.
She Li walked over and took Guan Shan before turning and walking to the corner of the room. He stopped. "Not in this lifetime, anyway."
He Tian looked up. "What?"
"You won't see him again in this lifetime." He turned to look at He Tian. "I won't let him go to Hell, Angel. Not this one." He walked into the darkness and disappeared, Guan Shan in his arms.
"Live a long and healthy life, Little Mo." He Tian wiped his tears and closed his eyes. "I'll see you soon."
