One Day

With a thump, Mo Guan Shan dropped something onto his mother's nightstand, causing her to wake up. She looked over to see her son putting chopsticks onto the tray he had put down. He looked at her and gave a small smile.

"Happy Mother's Day, ma." He bent down and kissed her on the head before he walked out the room. "Stay in bed and eat. You're not going to work today." He called as he walked into the living room.

His mother smiled, her heart warming at the gesture. She loved her son dearly.

After eating, Mrs. Mo walked into the living room to find her son watching the small TV that only worked when it felt like it. Going into the kitchen to wash her bowl, she saw a bouquet of carnations on the kitchen counter next to a neatly wrapped present. Love overwhelmed her and she rushed into the living room, wrapping her arms around her son.

"Thank you, Guan Shan. I know you can't really afford anything so thank you so much my precious baby." She squeezed him as he patted her arm a little awkwardly.

"It's okay, ma. You don't need to thank me."

She smiled at him and got up. She walked walked back into the kitchen and carefully unwrapped the present. Inside was a silver bracelet with five little charms on it - a heart, a bird, a star, a bell and a butterfly. Her eyes filled with tears at the beautiful gift she received. She sat on the sofa next to Guan Shan and he switched off the TV, turning to her. His eyes widened in shock when he saw the tears in her eyes.

"Guan Shan, this is the second best gift I've ever received. How on earth did you afford it?" She asked as she held her hand out to him to put it on her slender wrist.

"I saved up for it. I saw you eyeing it a couple of months ago. Wait, what do you mean 'second best gift'?" He questioned as he put the bracelet on her, a small frown marring his features.

His mother placed her small hand against his cheek and smiled sweetly at him. "You, honey. You was the best gift I could have ever received."

Love flashed in Guan Shan's eyes before he turned his head away. "Ma- ." Before he could finish his sentence, someone knocked at the door. Guan Shan got up and patted his mother on the shoulder. "Sit still; I'll get it."

Opening the door, Guan Shan found a black haired demon grinning at him with huge bouquet of flowers in his hands. Guan Shan deadpanned as he looked from the boy to the flowers and back again. Without saying a word he slammed the door shut and sat back down on the sofa.

"Who was it?" His mother asked, looking back at the door.

"A pest." Guan Shan grabbed the remote to the television. "Ignore it."

The door knocked again and this time Mrs. Mo got up and answered the door. "He Tian! What a pleasant surprise. Come on in, sweetheart."

"Thank you, Auntie. You're much kinder than your son." He Tian shot over at Guan Shan, who flipped him off over his shoulder, as he placed his much bigger flowers next to Guan Shan's.

"Would you like something to eat? Something to drink?" She ushered He Tian into the living room and onto the sofa next to Guan Shan.

"Yes please, but because it's Mother's Day I won't make you do anything. Instead," He Tian grabbed Guan Shan's arm and pulled him up. "Guan Shan and I will make you something."

"Hey!" Guan Shan cried in protest. "Let go, asshole!" He struggled as He Tian pulled him into the kitchen. "What the hell are you even doing here?" He asked annoyed as he released himself from He Tian's grip.

He Tian looked away, an almost troubled look on his face. "Look, I don't mean to impose on you and your mother, especially when it's Mother's Day, but I just didn't want to be home today." He Tian looked at the redhead. "Guan Shan, my mother passed away when I was younger. Your mother is the closest thing I have that even closely resembles a parent. I wanted to be here for her."

Guan Shan felt a weight land on his chest. He breathed out a strained sigh. "You can stay for dinner. But if you piss me off, I'm throwing you - and your stupidly big flowers - out that window. Got it, dipshit?"

A grin slid across He Tian's face and nodded like a child. "You have my word. Scouts honour."

Guan Shan narrowed his eyes at He Tian's retreating form. "You wasn't even in the scouts." Guan Shan watched He Tian sit next to his mother and have a conversation with her. Well, I suppose he isn't so bad all the time. Guan Shan made the three of them some tea and sat on the other side of his mother.
