One Day

"Ah, shit." Bolin* muttered from the doorway.

"Bolin, you better watch your mouth you little bastard or I'll take your phone." He Guan Shan shouted to his son from the kitchen.

"Sorry," Bolin popped his head around the corner to look at his dad with a grin, scratching his short black hair. "my shoe got mud on them again."

Guan Shan pursed his lips with a scowl and shook his head. "Why your father spoils you so much I'll never understand. Just wipe it off."

"I spoil him because he's a good lad." He Tian spoke up as he walked into the room, adjusting his tie.

Bolin watched his father greet his dad with a kiss on the cheek. His dad blushed before readjusting his husbands' tie for him. A pang ran through his chest as he wished he had someone to kiss like that. A blonde guy popped into his head and Bolin blinked profusely to rid himself of the thought.

Arriving just after the bell rang, He Bolin decided to skip class and head to the library. As he settled down with a book, a soft voice rang out to him. "Shouldn't you be in class?"

He turned to see Shui* leaning against the bookcase. Half of his shoulder-length blonde hair had been tied back in a ponytail and he wore a thick black choker around his neck. His nails were painted black and his arms were decorated with an array of bracelets.

"Shouldn't you be suspended?" Bolin countered.

"It's my first day back. You have class. English, if I'm not mistaken."

Bolin's heart skipped a beat. He had been gone for 2 months and they shared only two classes together, yet Shui knew his schedule. A soft blush coated his cheeks and a small smile slid across Shui's face.

"I was late. Didn't want to be told off so I decided to skip altogether. If it's your first day back then shouldn't you be in class?"

"First period was cancelled. They made me come here to clean the library when I saw you come in. I haven't seen you in a long time. I've missed you."

Shui's bluntness caused Bolin's face to burst into flames. He looked away. "I-I missed you too, Chicken Dick."

A chuckle escaped Shui when he moved forward and sat down next to Bolin. Without saying a word, Shui's hand slid into Bolin's and they sat in comfortable silence for a short while. "Can I ask you a question?" Shui murmured quietly.

"Anything." Bolin answered, maintaining the level of quiet Shui was speaking at.

"Is it weird, having two dads, instead of a mother and father?" Bolin tensed up but before he could speak, Shui squeezed his hand and spoke. "You know I have nothing against it, unlike most people in this school; I'm just curious."

Bolin breathed heavily out of his nose before staring at their connected hands. Shui's thumb was subconsciously running back and fourth over Bolin's hand, sending shivers up his spine. "It's not weird. It's just... different. They love me the same as a mother and father would. The gender of my parents don't matter. I love them and they love me."

"And you're okay with the fact that two men love each other?"

"Of course. Someone's sexuality doesn't matter to me."

Shui turned his body towards Bolin. "Good."

Bolin turned to him. "What do you-"

Shui interrupted him by putting his hand on Bolin's cheek and pressed their lips together. Stunned, Bolin sat still for a second before he melted into the kiss. Just this morning he had longed for someone to kiss him and love him as much as his parents loved each other, and here he was, kissing his best friend.

They pulled away and Shui searched Bolin's red face, as if looking for something. "And how did that make you feel?" He whispered, his had still resting on Bolin's cheek.

Bolin blinked a couple of times before he glanced at Shui's lips. "Pretty damn good."

Shui visibly relaxed. "Thank God, because I've been wanted to do that for the longest time." He whispered before leaning back in for another kiss.

This story is dedicated to Shooktotheboot I'm super sorry it took so long for me to write this for you. I hope I made this up to you with this story.

Bolin means gentle rain and I thought it appropriate as I was listening to the rain as I was writing this.

Shui means water. When choosing their names, I wanted both boys names' to be similar or to have a connection.
