One Day
Today, He Tian was feeling extra needy.
His eyes dove between each person that walked through the school gates, looking for a certain redhead, as he smoked a cigarette. Five minutes before the bell rang, Mo Guan Shan strolled lazily through the gates with his harmless cronies following behind. He Tian stubbed his cigarette out and walked over to the forever-annoyed looking redhead. He threw his arm around the boy, starling him ever so slightly.
"Yo~ Miss me?" He Tian cooed.
Guan Shan gave him the side eye. "Not even in your wildest dreams, fucker."
"Come, Little Mo, I'll walk you to class. Have lunch with me. I'll buy you a sandwich."
With that, Guan Shan's attitude changed and he seemed more agreeable. To an outsider, it seemed as though nothing had changed but He Tian could see that he had perked up at the word 'sandwich'.
"Fine, but no cheese this time. I don't like that shit." Guan Shan shook He Tian's arm off his shoulder as he walked into his classroom.
"Only if you behave," He Tian called to him, waving. "make sure you don't be rude to your classmates and do all your work."
In response, Guan Shan flipped him off. He Tian chuckled and walked to his own classroom, the girls instantly swarming around him. Before, the girls in the class were enough to take his attention away from his family troubles but just recently, every word that came out of their mouths sounded like a droning noise and if he looked long enough, their faces eventually blended together, not being able to tell who was who.
During class, He Tian relived some of his best moments with Guan Shan. Like the time they had shopped for ear studs together, or when they had been at his estate and had a barbecue with Jian Yi and Zhan Zheng Xi, or when he had kissed him. He Tian wasn't too fond of Guan Shan's reaction to it afterwards but Guan Shan seemed to have silently forgiven him and He Tian wouldn't do it again without the boy's permission.
When the bell rang for lunch, He Tian was one of the first out of the classroom, being sat close to the door, and he made his way over to Guan Shan's classroom. He waited patiently outside and looked up to make eye contact with She Li. The two stared at each other with cold eyes, both daring the other to look away first. She Li was the first to break contact when one of his followers called to him trying to show him something on his phone.
Guan Shan followed quickly after and He Tian grabbed the back of his jacket, allowing the redhead to pull him along. Guan Shan huffed as they walked to the cafeteria, his small mutterings consisted of the words, 'teacher' and 'bastard'.
"What's wrong, Redhead? Why are you more grouchier than usual?" He Tian tugged on his jacket.
Guan Shan slapped He Tian's hand away, which just made it's way onto Guan Shan's elbow, and put his hands in his pockets. "My shitty homeroom teacher is giving me detention tomorrow for not doing my homework. That bastard."
"Aww~ Why didn't you do your homework? Want me to cheer you up? There's a bathroom nearby." He Tian rubbed his head against Guan Shan's, a grin stretching across his face.
Guan Shan glared at him, his cheeks colouring a beautiful pink. "You- What the fuck does a bathroom have to do with anything? I didn't do my homework because I have part-time jobs to go to and if I'm not there, then I'm busy catering to your dumb ass."
"It's fine, it's fine." He Tian waved his hand. "We can do our homework together later so you don't get in anymore trouble. Now sit down, Princess. I'll go get you some lunch."
Guan Shan found an empty table and He Tian returned with sandwiches and cold drinks for them. As they ate, a large group of girls practically floated over to them, hearts swooning in their eyes as He Tian grinned at them.
"Hey He Tian, can we sit with you?" One called.
"Sure, the more the merrier." He grinned widely as Guan Shan rolled his eyes, concentrating on his sandwich.
The girls raced for the seats and those that missed out sat on the table or surrounded them. He Tian ignored them mostly but knew Guan Shan was start to feel uncomfortable. As bad as it was, He Tian took a little pleasure out of his discomfort. It made it all the more fun to tease him.
And that's what he decided to do.
As per usual, the girls started with their questions, and with each one He Tian nonchalantly answered, he watched for Guan Shan's every reaction.
"Say, He Tian. You never did tell us your favourite colour."
"Orange." He opened his drink and took a swig, his eyes never leaving the redhead.
"Ooh me too~ I like neon orange." One girl piqued up.
"Neon orange is cool but I mean more like a burnt orange."
Guan Shan hadn't reacted to He Tian's obvious indication to his ginger hair which meant he was either a suddenly good actor or he hadn't caught on yet. He Tian was betting on the latter. He wasn't sure how to make it more obvious until another girl asked the perfect question.
"W-what's your favourite m-meal?"
"Beef stew." He answered without hesitation, his chin resting in his hand. With this, Guan Shan suddenly choked on his sandwich, his cheeks flushing once again as he caught on to what He Tian was doing. His eye twitched as He Tian reached over and patted his back. "You okay? Don't choke now." He mocked, his lips turning up in one corner. Guan Shan's eyebrows burrowed in annoyance but he didn't say anything, refusing to make eye contact. He wiped the corner of his mouth and took a swig of his drink.
"Say, He Tian? Do you like jewellery? I've never seen you wear any."
"Jewellery isn't for me but I do love earrings, especially if they're black." He smiled innocently.
With this, Guan Shan stood up, scraping his chair across the floor and left the cafeteria. He Tian watched as the girls gossiped around him wondering why he left.
-------
The next day, all He Tian saw was orange headbands and hair bobbles, black earrings - some in the form of studs, some in flowers, some hooped - and girls carrying lunch boxes for him. He didn't regret it one bit because a realisation dawned on him. Even if all the girls wore the same as Guan Shan, he still knew which one he preferred to be around.
Speaking of which, He Tian stood in the doorway of Guan Shan's classroom after his detention had finished. He threw his arm around the redhead's shoulder and marched them towards He Tian's classroom.
"You didn't have to wait, you know." Guan Shan mumbled.
"I had clean up duty so it was no bother." He Tian shrugged
Guan Shan narrowed his eyes at him. "You never do clean up. You just play basketball instead."
He Tian grinned. "Guilty as charged. What's the big deal though? I played and just so happened to finish at the same time as you. But if you wanna believe I waited for you I'm all for it, Little Momo."
Guan Shan shoved him away. "Shut it, bastard. I'm going home."
He Tian grabbed his elbow. "Wait, come with me for a few hours. The girls gave me too much stew and I can't eat it all. I don't want it to go to waste so I thought about giving it to homeless people. Help me hand it around."
Guan Shan stared at He Tian with a strange expression before he looked away. "You're telling me you've actually got a heart in there?"
He Tian nuzzled against Guan Shan. "Yes~ And it beats just for you." He cooed
Guan Shan hit him round the back of the head. "Idiot. Let's just get the food and go."
He Tian chuckled. "Sure thing, Little Mo."
