One Day

"Fuck! He Tian, are you okay?"

Mo Guan Shan raised He Tian's hair away from his forehead so he could get a better look at his eye. A tear fell from He Tian's watering eyes as he struggled to keep them open. He had a small scrape above his eyebrow but other than that, all seemed okay.

"He Tian?" Guan Shan called, concern filled his voice.

He Tian grabbed Guan Shan's hand and moved it away before resting his head on Guan Shan's shoulder. "If I go blind," he murmured into the ginger boy's shoulder. "how will you repay me?"

Guan Shan was silent for almost a minute and He Tian heard his breathing speed up. He grabbed the sleeve of He Tian's shirt, "I will take care of you from now on." With the air feeling heavy, Guan Shan stood up and dragged He Tian up with him. "Come, we need to get that looked at."

He turned and walked a step before a hand stopped him. He turned back and saw that He Tian had intertwined Guan Shan's hand with his own. He Tian covered his eye with his hand and an almost pained expression crossed his face as he gave a small smile. "I can't see. Guide me, Little Mo."

Guan Shan glanced between He Tian and their hands for a moment before he gripped He Tian's hand and guided him towards the nurses' office. Guan Shan slid the doors open before noticing the room was empty.

"This is so cliché." Guan Shan muttered before walking into the room and guiding He Tian towards an unused bed. He sat him down before moving over to the side and seeing what he needed. He picked up a clean cloth and moved to the sink before wetting the cloth. Coming back to He Tian, he noticed he was sat facing the floor, his hand still holding his eye. He was sure it was hurting and wished the nurse was here already. "I'm not a first aider so this will have to do until she gets back."

Guan Shan gently lifted his chin until they were looking at each other before moving He Tian's hair out of his face once again. He gently dabbed the cloth against He Tian's eye, who hissed in pain and backed away.

"That hurts, Little Mo, be gentle with my fragile face." He Tian raised his good eyebrow and he lifted the corner of his mouth.

"Don't be such a baby, it's barely a scrape. And stop that, I already feel guilty as it is." Guan Shan muttered, feeling no need to speak loudly considering how close they were. He grabbed He Tian's chin again and brought the cloth back to his face, this time pressing lighter.

He Tian blinked and another stray tear fell. Guan Shan knew he wasn't doing it on purpose but it added to his guilt. He Tian stared at Guan Shan's face, watching his every expression. It made Guan Shan feel uneasy, on edge, like he was taking an exam. He shuffled from one foot to the other and licked his lips. Guan Shan made eye contact.

"I'm sorry." He whispered.

He Tian tilted his head slightly. "What was that? I didn't quite hear you." He mocked.

Guan Shan moved the cloth away and pushed his shoulder gently. "You heard me, Dick. I said I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you." Guan Shan put the cloth back and breathed in deeply. "You were in my way, though."

He Tian grabbed Guan Shan's wrist and the two stared at each other. "I'm not gonna leave you, Little Mo, so I'm always going to be in your way. I'd rather I get hurt than you."

Guan Shan's mouth parted slightly. Unsure of what to say, he swallowed hard and moved away. He threw the cloth into the sink and walked back over to He Tian, his arms folded. "That's uh, the best I can do for now. It's best to wait for the nurse to get back so she can see if there's any real damage." He moved his hair out the way and bent down to inspect the cut.

"Kiss it better and I'll be fine."

Guan Shan scoffed. "You sure know how to time things right, huh. This is no times for jokes, He Tian."

"I'm serious." He Tian grabbed his wrist once more and squeezed slightly. "I want you to kiss it better for me."

A soft pink-tinted Guan Shan's cheeks as he blushed. He swallowed once again and his gaze shifted between the wound and He Tian's eyes. After a moment he gave in. "Fine, but I swear to God if you tell anyone I'll rip your tongue out of your fucking mouth."

He Tian raised his hands in surrender. "You have my word."

Guan Shan looked troubled as he brought his face close to He Tian's. He closed his eyes and pressed his lips against He Tian's cut. Guan Shan felt goosebumps raise on He Tian's face and that caused a set of his own to radiate across his entire body. He backed away an inch and suddenly, He Tian raised his face until their lips were barely separated.

They stared at each other for the longest time and Guan Shan could see every detail on his face. He Tian's pupils dilated as he glanced at Guan Shan's lips, causing Guan Shan to do the same. His breathing became heavier as he parted his lips and He Tian pushed forward into the small space between them, connecting their lips.

He Tian tasted of cigarettes and mint gum. The kiss was short and sweet and it swept Guan Shan off his feet. They looked at each other, both breathing heavily. Guan Shan felt the weight of what they had just done weigh down on his shoulders. He shook his head as he started to back away.

"No, He Tian, we can't-" Before he could finish, He Tian stood and grabbed his face and pulled their lips together for a second time. This time the kiss was hot and burning with passion. He Tian wrapped his arms around Guan Shan's waist and Guan Shan ran his fingers through He Tian's hair, tugging ever so slightly.

When they parted, He Tian rubbed his thumb over Guan Shan's cheek. His next words came out quiet and husky. "We can't? Well, we just did. And we will again, I hope."

Before he could respond, the door slid open and the nurse walked in. The boys separated themselves but He Tian was sure she had seen them embrace each other. However, she didn't say a word about it and smiled at them. "What can I do for you boys?"

Guan Shan stared at the ground and breathed heavily. "He's hurt. Uh, I gotta-"

Before escaping, He Tian grabbed his wrist. "Don't run from me, Guan Shan. Go to class and I'll come to get you after. Don't run." Guan Shan looked at him but avoided eye contact. He nodded and left the room in a hurry.

The nurse sighed wistfully. "You kids shouldn't fight these days. You young people must learn to love each other."

He Tian smiled sadly. "I have already learned to love, Auntie. But giving will always be easier than receiving."

"Then don't give up until you get what you want, what you deserve."

He Tian breathed out a laugh as he saw the tip of the white cloth in the sink. "I won't."
