Logan
I'd managed to rally everyone together but it still didn't look like it was going to be enough.
Storm was watching the events unfold in front of us, his eyes glued to the battlefield that used to be our home. I could see Yarah making her way through the strange beings easily enough, but it wasn't the creatures that everyone was worried about. They were just the promise of what was to come. I addressed the witches behind me, they had come from Dominick's pack to help out, there was no world for anyone if we all died anyway.
It was strange to see everyone working hand in hand so effortlessly. After years of living in the Midnight Moon pack, I had always thought that my father hated witches. No magic could exist in our pack, we were traditionalists. Yet, after his death I found out that he'd secretly been working with them for years from afar and it was my duty to work alongside them too. It made it a little easier to know that the people I had been working with were family to my mate, who was also a witch. What a crazy few months it had been...
I looked around the gathered people that I was leading into destruction, "thank you for coming here today and helping out with our cause." Thankfully it seemed as if all of the creatures were only aiming for my pack, though I had no idea why. We'd been quiet in our dealings with the Nordic witches, no one should've known our involvement in this. "Remember we are one unit. If we can get rid of the majority of the beasts, that will give Whitt a chance to really focus and hopefully we will be out of this quicker than it started."
I looked over in the direction that Yarah had taken my mate. She was surrounded by witches, they were completely motionless, as if they were made from stone. It was pretty incredible to see the trust that these people placed in her. I hoped that my pack would feel the same when we announced her as my Luna. I was worried, with her being a witch, but considering the help that they were giving us now... no one would deny her.
She looked incredible, fierce and fearless. Her eyes were closed, her face like the calm before a storm. If I wasn't already as in love with her as mates could be, I would fall to my knees looking at how powerful she looked right now. Elena, Dominick's personal witch was to my right, "this is going to work right?" I asked her, unsure of how many losses we would gain in the process. "We'll hold back as much as we can, but our job is to protect our own kind first and foremost, which is what I would assume your wolves value too?"
She was right, if there was a choice between protecting my own or saving a witch, there would be a hesitation. I watched as witches and wolves fell around us, while overwhelmed by the onslaught of scaly creatures. "We go now, we need to help them." I commanded. With one last look at my mate, I charged into the chaos and whispered a prayer for everyone here.
I shifted as soon as we started to sprint, my wolf roaring his way out of my body. He was ready for the flight, after everything that had happened, he was filled with bloodlust. Storm ran next to me, keeping pace the entire time. If anyone even dared get to close, he was there to make sure they were cleared out of the way. I wasn't going in any particular direction, everything seemed so clear from the outside looking in. But in the middle, everything was a blur, just a jumbled mess.
My teeth were gnashing at every creature I could find. Sometimes it took them down straight away, sometimes Storm would jump at them to finish them off. We made a great team, I don't know what I would've done if Storm hadn't come into my life. Suddenly, a piercing sound ripped through the sky, along with it came a shooting star, crashing right into the earth in front of me. The ground shook as the bright light dimmed around the object, only it wasn't an object. It was a person. The person was actually a man, he was trying to get into his hands and knees, shaking with every move.
"Ferdinand!" A familiar voice shouted from across the mass of bodies littering the floor, it was a voice I knew as well as my own.
Emily.
Everything from that point forward happened in slow motion. I turned in the direction that I'd heard her, and there she was. I hadn't seen her properly in what felt like forever. In reality, it had only been weeks, but her face was like a light in the dark. What were they doing here? I thought they were still in Sweden? The man in front of me held his hands up as he struggled to his feet. Emily ran towards him, followed closely by another person I didn't expect to see here, Dominick.
A chilling thought crossed my mind, if they were here... where was the moon goddess? I shifted back to my human form, I needed to find Yarah, maybe she could explain all of this? A rumbling from the earth almost knocked me over after as I shifted. "What are you doing here? What's going on?" Emily questioned the newcomer, clearly they knew each other well.
"Where is the moon goddess?" Dominick followed up. Ferdinand's face looked broken and bruised. There were marks from his forehead down to his chin and his eyes watered as he looked at the Rising Dawn Alpha. "I tried to keep her distracted for as long as I could..." the broken man explained.
Emily looked at him desperately, her eyes pouring with tears, "being a human punching bag isn't distracting her! How could you let her do this to you?" Ferdinand took a step forward, I tensed, ready to act if he tried anything. The fighting was still going on around us, but for the moment it was almost as if this scene playing out before me was suspended in time.
"I wanted to make sure you would have time to get to where you needed to."
His breath was short, it sounded as if whoever had done this to him had punctured his lungs in the process.
Emily was in tears, Dominick stood behind her comforting. How much had their relationship progressed while they had been gone? Ferdinand reached for Emily, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry I couldn't keep her away... you need to go.." his sentence was cut off. His body convulsed, his eyes pulling back into his head before he fell to his knees and collapsed on the ground.
