I was trying to take all of this in but it seemed impossible. So the Sun God had taken his own life by giving his power to someone else, but he'd left behind a child. That child was in some way related to my mate? That also meant that Dominick was related to the Sun God too. I guess it suddenly made sense why he was the Alpha of the Rising Dawn pack specifically.

"No one ever knew exactly where they were," Yarah spoke softly, "she was close to finding out when Daniel was made the Alpha of the Rising Dawn pack." I recognised the name, I faintly recalled that my father had spoken about an Alpha Daniel at some point in my childhood. Yarah shushed me, not finished with her story.

"The name Elio had been hidden before then. We'd been scouting the pack for a while so we already knew that Alpha Daniel had a son. It wasn't safe. If he took over the pack, she would find him. One of our scout witches had grown fond of the Alpha while she was watching, so when Daniel called for aid against an attacking Rogue pack, I sent Hazel."

So their meeting was forced? It didn't happen naturally? I had no many questions. The more she seemed to answer, the more questions I had to ask. Nothing made any sense anymore. "Hazel was Daniel's true mate, we couldn't deny it, but we knew that it would also benefit us. If they had a child, that child would become the Alpha. Witches only ever bring more witches into the world, so the moon goddess would be thrown off by a female Alpha."

I looked at her, eyes wide open, the face of utter shock and speechlessness. "Daniel and Hazel were mates and so naturally the child from that union would be the true Alpha of the pack," she was quick to fill in. It was too late though, I was raging. They had used Whitt's mother for their own personal gain and they were doing it now with my mate! It was clear that they were the villains they were always made out to be. If they could use their own coven like that, they had no loyalties.

"We tried to put things in place to stop her from finding out, but then they were attacked by a pack of rogues again and Jessie was moved. We lost sight of her and Hazel died in the process. We had no way of knowing where she was." Little did they know that the whole entire time, she was being adopted into my pack. Adopted by Emily's parents. Emily, who I once thought could've been my mate.

We watched as Kresnik and Lilith carried on with their normal life, blissfully unaware of everything that was about to happen because of their union. Yarah started to look around and it took me a minute to realise she was looking for the way back, she continued her story. "Dominick became the Alpha and it was only a matter of time before she found out. The events of last year were shameful, I admit. But when we found out from your beta that Jessie was in your pack under a new name, we needed to get her out so that she could take up her rightful position."

I could have sworn my face was red from anger right now. Yarah started to walk back towards where we had landed, she didn't stop speaking and I because I needed to know how this was all supposed to end, I had to keep up. She started to speak louder the closer to the vortex we got, I looked around to see if anyone had noticed but still, no one could see or hear us. "We cursed the pack grounds when we got kicked out so that a witch could never be born there. It was bitter at the time, but it worked in our favour when Jessie's magic started to flare up." She opened the twisting vortex to get us back with the flick of her wrist. My stomach turned as we stepped through the spinning wind and into the centre.

"We realised all too late that she was mated to you, we tried to stop it by taking you out of the picture, but Jessie's brother saved you." She paused and apologised, "No hard feelings...but we knew that if she was your mate, she would never be the Alpha." Right? So I was just a pawn in this big celestial game of chess? It was starting to seem like none of us held any significance of our own. Maybe that's why my father had wanted me to build an army? Maybe we had to take out everyone.

I didn't have any more time to think about it as we were sucked up into the twisting blue spiral again. This time I managed to close my eyes just in time, I didn't want a repeat of that feeling again. As we landed back in the white room at my pack house I felt a barrel of emotions hit me all at the same time. "So what now?" I asked her, my body was shaking with anger, tension and betrayal. I had no idea what to do with them all, but I felt as if I was about to burst. "What do you need her for now?"

She had started to walk out of one of the tunnels, but at my question she stopped to look back at me. With a grave look, she whispered "you'd better hope that the moon goddess doesn't find Dominick before we find her." And then she left. What an ominous parting phrase. Luckily for me, Dominick hadn't mentioned the moon goddess since the whole ordeal with Basker. We all though that we'd dealt with the dark witches last autumn, apparently not. At least for now it was safe to assume that he had no idea about any of this.

It seemed like the less he knew the better.
