Up until fourth period, Keilani was having a perfectly fine day. In fact, it might've even been considered good. She had gotten a great score on an English essay she had been stressed about for a couple weeks, her Pre-Calculus test had a near-perfect score, and Shelby had been hinting for the past week that she'd be giving Keilani a lead in one of the numbers for that Saturday's Sectionals competition.
Things, however, quickly changed when Keilani was on her way to lunch.
She was walking with Mercedes, talking excitedly about Sectionals, when the two turned the corner and began walking down the hallway where the choir room was located. Keilani had been distracted with talking about the song possibilities for Sectionals so she hadn't noticed anything, but Mercedes spotted someone through the crowd that shocked her because she had never thought she'd see him again.
"Holy sweet hell," Mercedes cursed, interrupting Keilani in the middle of her sentence. "I thought Santana was lying when she told me."
Keilani looked curiously in the direction Mercedes was staring at with wide eyes. "Lying about wha–"
She saw him. At first, all Keilani saw was just a flash of blonde hair that made her heart stop for a second. But the last time she had seen him, his hair had been bright blonde and not the dark blonde hair that she had just seen, so Keilani just brushed that off as her being crazy and tried to ignore it.
But then the crowd parted, and Keilani saw a face that made her nearly drop all her textbooks on the ground.
Sam Evans.
Sam had clearly seen Keilani too, and was now walking towards Keilani with a nervous smile on his face. Keilani was silent as she stared wide-eyed at him, trying to ignore her racing heart that had seemingly forgotten the amount of pain she had felt that summer. She was panicking. And Sam was coming even closer, and Keilani knew that if she didn't do something soon, she'd be forced to face him after months apart.
So Keilani did the only logical thing she could think of.
She turned around and ran in the opposite direction.
Sam, who had been desperate for the opportunity to talk to Keilani ever since Finn and Rachel convinced him to move back to Lima, tried to run after her. But just as he started to go after her, Sam found himself blocked by Mercedes who was refusing to let him pass.
"Hey, Mercedes," Sam began nervously. "Long time, no see. Did you do something you with your hair? Because it looks great. Any chance you can let me–"
