The sight of Marley and Jake bonding at lunch that day had caused both Brittany and Blaine to start thinking about their own relationships. As Brittany sighed over the sight of the young love, Blaine rested his chin on his hand and pondered aloud, "Do you remember when you started dating Santana and I started dating Kurt, back before everyone was so busy and so...far away? Things were so much simpler. We had so much more hope and innocence. Every day was just like Valentine's Day."

"We're still young, though," Brittany responded with a sad look in her eyes. "Shouldn't we still be experience those things?"

The two couldn't help but look over at Sam and Keilani, who were also sitting at a nearby table and were giggling as they had a mock sword fight with their forks. Noticing the attention on them, Keilani looked up from the fight, and Sam took the opportunity to knock her fork out of her hand and send it skidding across the lunch room floor.

"You guys alright?" Keilani asked as Sam got up to get her a new one, noticing that both Brittany and Blaine weren't their usual happy selves.

Blaine tried to smile and pretend that everything was alright, but Brittany shook her head. She then moved into the seat next to Keilani and wrapped her arms around her.

"I needed a good Keilani hug," Brittany mumbled eventually, shooting Keilani a sad smile. "You give really good hugs."

After Brittany hugged Sam as well and ruffled his hair, she walked away from the table, but Keilani couldn't help but notice that Brittany's usual happy skip in her step was missing.

Sam turned to Blaine, who was now sitting alone at the table. "Dude, my hugs aren't good as Lani's, but I can give you a hug if you want."

Despite his depressed mood, Blaine couldn't help but let out a small chuckle. "I think I'll have to pass, but thanks for the offer," He said before leaving the lunchroom.

Even though him and Keilani had been messing around, Sam had overheard what Blaine and Brittany had been talking about before. The words were playing over and over in his head, and a few moments after the two were left alone, Sam couldn't help but ask, "Was that how you felt? When I left you last year?"

Keilani shifted awkwardly in her seat, poking at her food with her new fork. "Yes, but no."

"Well...how did you feel?"

"I kept trying to convince myself that I shouldn't have had such a broken heart because we weren't even together," Keilani quietly admitted, keeping her gaze focused on her food instead of up at Sam. "But it didn't work."

"Yeah, but we weren't exactly 'just friends'," Sam pointed out as he rested his hand on top of hers. "I definitely didn't think of you as a friend."
