Senior graduation was fast approaching, and it was starting to hit the five seniors of the New Directions like a ton of bricks. What had first started as just trying on their caps and gowns turned into a 'holy shit' moment for them as they began to realize that they really only had a few weeks left until their high school journey would come to an end and their lives would begin to take such different directions.
Tina, who hadn't picked up her cap and gown just yet, heard her friends voices from the classroom and made her way towards it. "Hey guys, what's..."
She finally noticed her friends in their caps and gowns and, overcome with emotions over graduation, began to cry. At first, Blaine thought it was just Tina having another one of her emotional moments and it would be easy to get her to stop crying again. Then, Blaine looked over and saw Keilani was misty-eyed as well and realized that him and Sam might be in for an emotional afternoon.
Artie began to wheel into the room, his graduation cap sitting skewed on his head. But when he saw Keilani and Tina crying, he nearly wheeled back out of the room before Sam noticed him and gestured for him to come in.
"I'm not ready to say goodbye to guys yet," Tina sobbed as Keilani wrapped her arms around her, beginning to cry harder as well – partly because she was hating the thought of leaving her friends, but also because seeing other people cry always made her emotional.
"But it's not goodbye," Artie attempted to reassure. "That's why graduation is called 'commencement' because it's not the end of something, it's the beginning."
"They only say that so we go willingly," Tina insisted, refusing to believe him. "Sam, you and Mike were so close. Puck, too. When was the last time you talked to them?"
"I– I don't know," He stuttered. "I can't remember."
"Keilani, what about you, Kurt, and Mercedes?"
Keilani wiped her cheeks, trying her best to control her tears. "I talk to them at least once a week, and we try to have a group video call once a month just so we really stay in touch. Yeah, it's definitely not the same as high school, but we're still really close and are good friends to each other."
Tina still had tears in her eyes as she let out a small sniffle and asked, "But what if we don't talk every single day like we do now?"
"Maybe that's okay!" Sam tried to reassure. "My dad still keeps in contact with all his high school buddies. They can go, like, a year without speaking to each other, but then they meet up and don't miss a beat."
"Exactly!" Keilani agreed. "Talking to each other every single day is going damn near impossible. We're all going to be so incredibly busy and our lives are going to be moving in so many different directions that we might not be able to take the time to talk to each other every day. That's kinda just how it goes. All I want is to stay in touch with you guys and stay friends."
