The Prom was only a few short days away, and Keilani and Sam both had a pressing question on their minds that they wanted to ask the other person. They both knew that they'd be going to prom with each other, but neither of them had asked the famous question.
Keilani was practically bouncing with excitement as she walked with Sam to the auditorium, claiming that Mr. Shue had scheduled a last minute New Directions rehearsal for Prom night that Sam just happened to have missed. And considering Sam had been prone to doing that and Keilani would usually have to remind him about it, he didn't question it twice.
He started to become confused, however, when they got on the stage and the whole room was empty. "Are we just really early..." Sam questioned aloud, spinning slowly in place and seemingly not noticing Keilani disappearing to grab something she had hidden early that day. "Or are we about to be the victims of some ambush? Because I think half the New Directions are still mad at us that we didn't tell them."
"No, no it's not a prank," Keilani said with a shake of her head, reappearing from behind the curtain with a small bouquet of flowers in her hands.
Quickly understanding why she had asked him to meet her in the auditorium, Sam got excited but also a little frustrated. "No, not fair!" Sam complained. "I wanted to be the one to ask you to prom this time!"
"Well you're too late!" Keilani laughed, holding the flowers out in front of her towards Sam. "I'm asking you to prom, Sam Evans, and there's nothing you can do about it. You're the most incredible guy here at McKinley – and probably everywhere for that matter – and I'd be really lucky to go to Prom with you."
Sam never realized that he'd ever want to be given flowers until Keilani was standing there in front of them, beaming as Sam happily accepted the flowers. Sam noticed something else hiding in the flowers that made him want to burst into laughter. "Is...is that a white chocolate bar?"
"Please tell me you find it funny otherwise this is about to be really humiliating," She whispered nervously, starting to doubt the idea she had come up with last-minute in the grocery store when she had picked up the flowers.
"No, no it's awesome," Sam reassured with a wide grin. "You're awesome. And I would love to be your prom date, Lani."
Beaming, Keilani practically jumped on Sam as she ran over to hug him. "As much as I wanted to be the one to ask you this year," Sam said when the two pulled apart, although he was still holding onto her hand. "You do always seem to have these amazing promposal ideas."
"Last year, Santana suggested that I sing you that second verse of 'Trouty Mouth' that Mr. Shue never let her perform...but I had the feeling that might lead to you rejecting me and I really didn't want that."
