Ever since Sam told her that his family had lost his home, Keilani had spent almost every weeknight in the motel room that his family lived in, helping watch his siblings and making sure Sam didn't fall too far behind on his school work. On the nights where Sam was delivering pizza, Keilani was joined by Quinn almost every single time. The two had become closer as they took care of Stacey and Stevie, and Keilani loved being with the three of them. Stevie and Stacey loved having the two girls around, and it made Sam a little more relieved to know that his two siblings had some sort of happiness amidst all the trials their family was going through.
Standing at her locker, Keilani was organizing a stack of assignments and talking with Kurt about Nationals coming up in a few weeks until Mercedes approached the pair with a furious look on her face. "I've got news that neither of you, but especially Keilani, are going to like."
Kurt and Keilani exchanged a curious stare before Keilani asked, "What is it?"
Mercedes took a deep breath as if to collect herself together. "Rachel asked Sam to prom."
The first thing Keilani felt was shock. She wasn't surprised that Sam had been asked to prom considering how good looking he was, but the fact that it was Rachel. But once that wore off, that feeling was replaced by this stinging pain in her chest that was worse than when she had to watch Sam and Quinn singing together at Sectionals.
"He rejected her pretty fast," Mercedes added quickly as she realized that she probably shouldn't have led with that. "But either way, I'm still pissed at Rachel."
"Does she need to sink her claws into everything?" Kurt questioned angrily. "I'm pretty sure she doesn't even like Sam. And everyone in Glee club knows that if Sam's going to go to prom with anyone, it's going to be Keilani."
"We're not going to prom together," Keilani muttered dejectedly as she slammed her locker shut. "And how do we even know that Rachel knows I like him? She can be kind of oblivious."
"Oh, everyone knows," Mercedes said, causing Keilani to look over at her in shock. "Are you kidding? Tina came up to me the other day just to figure out whether you two started dating or not, and you guys just hadn't told anyone."
Keilani felt her cheeks flush with embarrassment over the thought that everyone in the New Directions had figured out she liked Sam, but she wasn't entirely sure why they were so convinced that Sam returned those same feelings.
"Rachel's absolutely clueless if she hasn't realized that Sam only has eyes for one girl–"
"Sam doesn't have eyes for me."
"Don't even try me on this," Kurt asserted, holding up a finger in front of Keilani's mouth in order to silence her. "This could be the most angry I've ever been with Rachel, and that's saying a lot."
