Chapter 1

Matt's POV: I was in shock. I just stared at Gabby and moved my hand to her stomach. I couldn't believe that she was pregnant all this time and didn't tell me. Did she think I wouldn't want this? That I wouldn't want to raise a child with her? That was always my dream....why was she leaving me out of it. I was mad...no, furious, but this wasn't the time nor was it the place to talk about this. Right now, Gabby needed to stay calm and relax for the sake of our child. God, that's crazy.

I took a deep breath and looked at her. "Why didn't you tell me?" She teared up and rubbed my hand. "Matt, you know why. I didn't want to get your hopes up in case...." I watched as she started to cry before moving to sit close to her, wrapping my arm around her. "...In case either one of us died. I couldn't make you go through that again. It would have killed you Matt."

I turned to look down at her, understanding what she was going through before grabbing her hand and kissing her forehead softly. "Okay, I understand. Plus....we haven't been in the best place recently. But, you were going to tell me at some point right? If everything went well?" She looked up at me. "The truth is that I didn't think that far ahead, this is as far as I thought ahead."

I wanted to yell when I heard that, I was pissed. But, before I could say anything, she added on to what she said. "All I thought about was myself. Surviving this. I fought like hell to get this far in the pregnancy. I made it almost all the way. Plus, you would've been so confused if I called you today and said....hey I'm here in Chicago about to give birth to our baby."

I sighed, starting to understand as we held each other. "Listen, right now...all that matters is that you are safe and alive. However, don't you think for one minute that now that I know you are here that I am not going to take time off and be with you. Is Antonio coming?" Gabby nodded. "He should be here soon." I smiled before rubbing her back. "Just stay here. I am going to call Boden. Get someone to bring me clothes. I am not leaving you or our baby."

Gabby smiled when he said that before letting me go. "Thanks Matt, we can talk about us another time okay? Just know I am really sorry." I nodded while getting up, moving to kiss her forehead softly. "Get some rest and tell them, I don't care that we aren't married anymore....I am going to be in that OR with you, we may not have been in this together from the start but we are in this together now." I smiled at her before kissing her forehead one last time. "Be right back." I said, walking away to go call Boden.
