Chapter 13

2 Days Later - September 1, 2020

Matt's POV

Today was the day. Today was the day that I was bringing my family home. It had been a busy 72 hours. Gabby gave birth, I spent time with them both and I quickly assembled a baby bed in the corner of our bedroom. However, I didn't do it alone. Antonio, Hermann and Severide were huge help. We had some clothes for him because people pitched in and bought them. But, for now...he was going to wear an outfit I personally bought for him.

"Oh my god Matt, this outfit is just so adorable." I heard Gabby say as I walked in with the car seat I bought the night before. I spent the night at home the night before but, I didn't sleep much. I couldn't when my family was still in the hospital. So, I took advantage of the time and got the basics set up in our room. "He does look cute in it." I smiled, walking up to her.

"So listen, I wanted to let you know that....I have a little bed for him in our room, I set it up yesterday. We have some clothes, including the ones you bought online that I picked up. I also went to get the essentials, diapers and baby wipes. I tried to get whatever I thought of and whatever Hermann and Antonio told me to get." I kissed her shoulder smiling.

Gabby then turned to look at me, grabbing my hand. "Matt, relax. I am not expecting you to have everything. I sprung this on you. I am just glad you are taking this so well. But, I am glad that you already did that. I am going to be on bedrest for a week. Then resting for another week." I nodded before kissing her softly. "Gives us time to talk while he sleeps."

Gabby sighed before nodding. I then gave her a reassuring smile and whispered to her. "We are going to get through this, as a family. We are back together and we are parents. Now, how about we get out of here and we can bring our boy home?" I smiled while getting up, going to grab the car seat which I got from the local store. Gabby the looked at me and smiled, moving to put Matteo in and buckling him up.

Once Matteo was in the car seat, I put my hand out for Gabby to grab before helping her up. We intertwined our fingers once she was up. Grabbing both the baby bag she had from Antonio and the car seat, we then set out to leave the hospital...ready to start our journey as parents at our home. I was ready for this, I just had to believe in our capabilities.
