Chapter 95, Part 1, Book 2

Qrow's eyes opened slowly, his senses roused by what smelled like the start of breakfast. From the warmth pressed up against him, and her lovely scent, Hana was still sound asleep, cuddling him.

He looked over toward the kitchen, which was visible from the living room, to see Evelyn cooking the morning's breakfast. He waved slightly to her, then turned back to Hana...

It hurt his soul to get out of bed while she was still asleep, but now was a great time to go out and surprise her. He carefully got up, making sure Hana was nice and comfortable as she continued to sleep, then hastily brushed his hair and got a small serving of breakfast to eat quickly before he headed out the door. Pulling out his phone, he checked the date and nodded to himself. If he recalled correctly, today was Hana's birthday, and the day he decided he'd do it.

He walked to the place, as his Camaro starting up would make way too much noise, hurrying to a nearby jewelry store. He had placed an order with this store a while ago, the day he had left the hospital, in preparation. He also had to stop by the Patisserie to pick up a birthday cake for her. Typically they'd home-bake one for her, but after his experiences with the Patisserie, and his own rustiness when it came to baking after two years in a coma, he decided to buy this one there.

He headed to the patisserie first, as it was further away, and the jewelry place was on the way back.

"Ah, welcome!" One of the catgirls greeted him. The little girl noticed him as well, as at 6'10" (208.28 cm) he wasn't exactly hard to spot in a crowd, even if it were a crowd of NBA players.

"Good morning!" She said, racing over to examine him.

He chuckled softly. "Good morning." He replied, not wanting to be rude, and headed to the counter to place an order.

"Ah, hello again, Maple." He said with a smile, greeting the blonde American Curl behind the register.

She smiled a bit when she saw him. "Hello. Here with Hana again?" She asked.

"Afraid not, but today is her birthday, so I thought I'd come here to order a cake for her." He replied.

"Ah, how sweet. Here, take this and write down what kind of cake you want, and how you want it decorated, and any other details, and then I'll bring this to Kashou and it'll be ready as soon as possible." Maple said with a smile, handing him a notepad.

Qrow wrote quickly yet legibly, making sure he didn't leave anything out as he filled in the sheet of notepad paper with Hana's favorite cake, a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting, decorated with white chocolate, no fondant, with her name written in decorative icing on top.

Once it was filled out, he handed it back to Maple, left the payment on the counter, and headed out while the cake was made. In the meantime, he headed to the jewelry store, perusing their jewelry and picking out a wonderful silver crescent moon pendant with a lovely looking moonstone set in it, and also picking up the thing which he had ordered in advance, tucking them into a pocket safely before hurrying back home for some more breakfast.

By the time he returned home, Hana was already awake, sitting at the table. She smiled softly when Qrow opened the door.

"Ah, good morning, Hana, and happy birthday. Sorry I wasn't with you when you woke up, I had to get some things ready." Qrow said, greeting Hana.

"It's quite alright. I'm sure you've got quite the surprise in store for me." Hana replied as Qrow sat down next to her.

"Speaking of, I bought your present while I was out." He says, pulling out the box with the pendant to hand it to her.

Her eyes sparkled as she pulled out the necklace. "Oh, it's absolutely beautiful... I love it." Hana replied, carefully removing it from the box to put it on.

Evelyn served breakfast, some sweet Apple Cinnamon Kaiserschmarrn, and savory potato omelet, Hana's favorite traditional German breakfast foods.

"Itadakimasu~" The three of them said, sitting down to enjoy the breakfast Evelyn made.

"Wow, Evelyn, this is even better than last time you made it." Hana said, complementing her.

Qrow nodded in response, also greatly enjoying the food.

"So, Hana. Any idea what you want to go out and do?" He asked.

"Going to a book store would be nice. I could do with some new books." Hana replied with a soft smile.

Qrow nodded and they finished up breakfast, then cleaned up and went out to the garage to get in his car. Hana jumped a little when Qrow started the car, and Qrow chuckled softly, leaning over to hug Hana, who was in the passenger's seat.

"I don't think I'll ever get used to how loud that engine is." Hana commented, as they headed out to a nice cozy bookstore, perusing the shelves to pass some time and pick out other books for Hana.

They spent some time together in the store, and then eventually it came time for them to go get Hana's cake, which they decided to have at the patisserie. They all got back into Qrow's car and headed off, with Hana quite happy to have Qrow here for her birthday.

They pulled up to the parking lot beside the patisserie and headed inside, two catgirls, Chocola and Vanilla, guided Hana and Evelyn to a table, while Qrow picked up Hana's birthday cake, bringing it to the table.

He set it down carefully, then took a seat next to Hana, who smiled sweetly to him and his sister.

"It makes me so happy that the two of you work so hard every year to make my birthday special. It's always a wonderful surprise..." Hana said, seeming quite happy.

Qrow smiled and gave Hana a nice tight hug, then stood up to help cut her cake, before standing beside Hana for a moment.

His tail lashed, his heart racing at a million beats per minute, as he tried to steady his nerves.

"Hana... Speaking of surprises... I've got something important I've been meaning to ask you for a long time, but especially now, after the... Accident... I don't want to have to look back and regret not having done this, so I'll ask it now..." Qrow said, reaching into his coat.

He knelt down and blushed deeply. "Hana... Will you marry me?" He asked.

Several others in the patisserie gasped, a few went "Awwww!" and Shigure took the opportunity to snap a picture as Qrow anxiously awaited Hana's answer......
