(Qrow's perspective.)
I floated in nothingness for a moment, unsure of what the hell was going on... Then noticed three large gates appear around me, one marble white, one gray, made of cobblestones, and one patterned with red and fire orange, each had their own guard post next to it. I headed over to the marble gate and they wouldn't take me, then I headed over to the orange and red gate, they wouldn't take me either. I finally walked over to the gray gate and spoke to the gatekeeper.
"Qrow Branwen," I said.
"Let's see here..." The small creature said as he flipped through a list.
"Here it is... Qrow Branwen," The creature said. He looked back at the list and seemed shocked.
"Now what in Limbo's name are you doing here? You're not destined to die for another... You're not supposed to die... Ever... According to this list..." The small creature said.
"Well then, what're you standing around for? Get out of here! Go back to your plane of existence!" It said.
I looked around, aside from the gates there was nothing but blackness as far as I could see.
"How do I get out of here...?" I asked, confused.
The little creature clapped its hands and I was suddenly falling. I felt a hard thud and quickly shielded my eyes from the extremely bright light. I groaned in pain, it was like my body was still on fire, though it wasn't. I slowly reopened my eyes as I adjusted to the light, and realized... My body was a mess. On the bright side, (Haha greatest pun ever.) I wasn't burning in the sunlight while I lay on my back, wearing nothing but some scorched shorts. I noticed a white rose intertwined with a black one sitting on my chest. Trying to speak was agonizingly painful, but I managed.
"Vanilla... Help..." I groaned.
Royal looked over to me and seemed confused.
"You were a pile of ash a second ago..." Royal said.
"Just help me please..." I groaned.
Coconut moved me to a sitting position against my car as Royal searched for the right size wrench. Coconut grabbed a bottle of water and handed it to me. Once I finished the water Coconut had given me, I got the chance to look around. My entire body from my belt line to my neck was covered in streaks of what seemed like a disgusting mixture of blood, sweat, and ash, and Vanilla was asleep in Kashou's arms, tear streaks still visible on her face. In one hand she clutched my bandana and my ragged t-shirt. In her other hand was my wedding ring and a key ring containing all my keys, and around her neck were my dog tags, she must've removed the keys from the chain, because the tags were the only thing on it. I got up and grabbed my aviators from the glove box of my car and slid them on. I had a spare pair of boots in the trunk of my car so I pulled those on and hopped into my car. Kashou gently set Vanilla down on the passenger side since she was still asleep and we all drove home. I took the intertwined roses and put them in a vase with some water on the nightstand. I gently set Vanilla down in the bed and pulled the blanket over her and once I stepped out of the room I realized I needed a shower, I smelled like ash and sweat. I looked in the mirror and noticed most of my hair had burned off. I grabbed an electric razor and clipped on one of the detachable combs so it wouldn't cut off all my hair, just enough to get all the scorched parts, making it rather short, then took a shower. After I dried off I changed into some fresh clothes and lay down on the couch in the living room.
(Vanilla's perspective.)
I woke up in bed alone, Qrow's Bandana and ring still in my hands, and his dog tag chain still around my neck. It wasn't a nightmare. It was all real. I did my best to hold back tears as I shuffled into the living room.
"Hey Vanilla, you okay?" A voice similar to Qrow's asked, purring softly.
I turned around slowly to find Qrow casually laying on the couch, not a care in the world. I smiled and rushed into his arms, happy to see he was alive. After a few moments of relishing in the fact that Qrow was alive and well, it dawned upon me to ask.
"How did you survive? You were a pile of ash..." I said.
"Apparently, I'm not supposed to die... Ever..." He said with a smile.
I was elated as I stayed curled up against him, his arms wrapped around me.
"Oh, yeah, you might want these back," I said, handing him his stuff.
"Thank you," He replied, tucking the items into his pocket and sliding his wedding ring back on his finger.
We both stood back up and Qrow got an idea. He removed his dog tags from the chain and put a singular blank tag on the chain, then put it around my neck. He took his tags and put them on the end of his pocket watch's chain and tucked it back into his pocket.
"We'll get yours engraved later," He said with a smile as I gently nuzzled him.
