The next day, late in the evening, Evelyn found Royal with an empty pack of cigarettes and another half-empty pack of cigarettes, smoking while leaning on the rail overlooking the ocean...
He sighed heavily as he looked into the water, thinking to himself and trying to calm his nerves after the disaster that was the previous Rogue Speed Event... Not only did the Stacked Decks show up, but a couple of their goons tried to shoot up the event... People were hurt, and someone died... That fact weighed very heavily on his mind.
Evelyn could feel his tension, so she walked over. He was so deep in thought, he hadn't noticed her until she wrapped her arms around him.
"Oh, hey Evelyn, how's it going?" Royal asked.
"I'm alright... You look like a wreck though..." She replied, hopping up onto the railing above the water.
"Is it that obvious?" Royal asked.
"Yeah, it i-" Evelyn started to say, but was cut off when she stumbled and fell into the water below with a loud splash, flailing her arms.
"EVELYN!!!" Royal shouted, quickly yanking off his shoes to dive in after her.
He kept his head above the water and swam to save Evelyn as quickly as possible. Once he grabbed ahold of Evelyn, he hurried to shore.
As he was about to pull her out of the water she giggled. "Royal relax, I'm fine."
"... You are? Evelyn, were you trying to give me a heart attack? Jeez, I thought you were actually drowning..." Royal replied.
Evelyn smiled. "No, I can swim just fine, I fell in on purpose. I'm happy that you kept my head out of the water though, because I hate getting water in my ears." She said, giving him a kiss.
Eventually they climbed out of the water, Royal taking Evelyn home so they could get dried off and changed, seeing as they were both sopping wet.
Royal followed Evelyn in, looking around their cozy living room. Hana was seated comfortably, reading a book.
"Hey, Hana." Royal greeted her.
"Guten Abend." She replied without looking away from her book, slowly moving up and down.
"... Did you learn magic or something...?" Royal asked, only somewhat joking.
"No, silly." Evelyn said, throwing a towel at him, so he could dry off.
"She's sitting on Qrow. He does push-ups with her on his back a lot." Evelyn added with a giggle.
"Yeah. One hell of a workout, but it's worth it." Qrow replied, Royal only now noticing him.
"Alright. We're going to go out for a while, Qrow. We probably won't be back until long after you and Hana have gone to bed, so I hope you two have a good night." Evelyn said.
"You two have a good night as well." Hana acknowledged, still not looking up from her book as she turned the page.
"Yeah. Don't get arrested you two, I don't want to have to show up to jail to bail you two out." Qrow said, only half joking, still doing pushups.
He had already done a couple hundred, and was still going.
"So are we walking to the shop to get your Supra?" Evelyn asked Royal as she stood by the door.
"Hm. Nah, don't feel like walking. Why don't we take your Camaro? I'd like to see how it rides." Royal replied.
Evelyn smiled as the two of them headed to the garage.
They went to the garage and Royal looked around. There wasn't much to see, just a lot of the usual tools, and two cars. One was covered, the other was presumably Evelyn's 69 Yenko Camaro. Royal went around to the driver's side of the car and unlocked it, popping the door open...
"Holy shit, Ev, how do you drive like this?" Royal asked.
Evelyn laughed. "Royal, I'm 6 foot 8. Did you not realize I have a hard time fitting in my car? I have to drive with the seat pretty far back."
"God damn. Hold on, let me adjust the seat so I can actually reach the pedals." Royal said with a chuckle as he started adjusting the seat. Evelyn adjusted the passenger seat so she could ride comfortably, leaning the seat really far back.
They got comfortable together in her Camaro, then Royal started up the engine and they headed out for a midnight drive.
"I know where we should go." Royal said, thinking out loud, before heading off to a quiet part of town. On the way, a couple of bros who acted like they just came out of a 90s movie rolled up in a convertible, wanting to race.
"Your Camaro has about 770 horsepower, right?" Royal asked.
"Around 770, yeah." Evelyn replied.
"Perfect. They pulled up on us, now we gonna show 'em what's good." Royal said with a smirk.
They sat at the red light waiting, then when the light turned green, her Camaro sped off ahead of the convertible.
They laughed together as they left the convertible sports car in the dust, Royal heading off to take her to a special spot that pretty much only he knew about. They approached a tunnel that was blocked off, but thankfully, Royal had the key tucked away in his pocket, stepping out of the car to unlock the gate before hopping back in the car and driving through the dark roadway tunnel.
It was a pretty quiet night as they rolled through the hidden streets of the unfinished city expansion. There seemed to be a lot more graffiti than before, which was a little odd. Nonetheless, they drove over to a coastal section of the unfinished expansion, enjoying the peace, the waves, the breeze...
The peace and quiet was absolutely wonderful as they sat together, snuggling, kissing, and lots of Evelyn comforting Royal after the other day's events. It was a wonderful little date, a break from the stress of what had happened, how it would affect Rogue Speed, and Everything Was Going Great, Until.........
