(Still winter.)

I woke up in our hotel room and Vanilla was gently nuzzled up against me. I noticed a maid standing by the side of the bed confusedly examining my robotic arm, currently sitting on the nightstand alongside my gloves and my rings. "Oh, hello," I said. She jumped back, turning ghost white. "I-I'm sorry did I wake you up?" She said. "No, I always wake up this early." I replied, "Where did this come from?" She asked, confused. I sat up. "Oh... You seemed to be intact when you were in the lobby. Then again you had been wearing a long-sleeved shirt and gloves. Also, I like your cane, it's very fancy." She said. "Thank you," I replied. I pushed the blanket off of myself and the maid covered her eyes. "It's fine," I said, adjusting myself so I was sitting on the edge of the bed. She uncovered her eyes again and noticed my leg was missing as well. "How torn up are you?" She said, examining my large amassment of scars. "This old man is in several pieces," I said, stretching and grabbing a wrench from the bedside table and reattaching my leg. "How did you come to be so torn up?" She asked. "Do you want my life story or a short list of what happened?" I asked. "The short version please." She said. I was in the military when a grenade blew off my forearm, a dog attacked me and tore off the rest of my arm, I lost my eye to a shard of glass, and I lost my lower left leg when my car dropped onto my leg, as for all my scars, I have so many I stopped bothering to keep track." I said. "Ouch." The maid replied. "Oh, you also referred to yourself as an old man. If you don't mind, may I inquire as to exactly how old you are?" She asked. "In human years, 33, in cat years, about 148," I said. "What about her?" She asked. "This is going to sound awkward, but in reality, it's not as awkward as it sounds. She's in human years, about 4, but since we humanoid cats fully grow within a few months, and mature at 1 human year, it makes it much less awkward than it sounds." I said. "Oh, by the way, when did you get the mechanical arm? And why did you take it off when you went to bed?" She asked. "I had the engineer who made the original one's phone number and I was a rather renowned soldier. As for the second question, I'm not exactly the most cuddly of people when my arm and leg is made of steel," I said. I grabbed my robotic arm and bolted it on, flexing my fingers and stretching again. I grabbed my pocket watch and checked the time. "Oh, man have we really been talking that long?" I said. "Well, I gotta get back to what I was doing." She said. "Okay then," I said. She finished cleaning up the rest of our room and headed out while I changed into some clean clothes and started breakfast. Vanilla woke up a few minutes later and I handed her a plate of food. "Hey, Vanilla have you ever been skating? There's a large frozen lake in the vicinity that was declared solid enough to skate on." I said. "I haven't, but I would like to," Vanilla said. "Sounds like a plan," I replied. I brought Vanilla to a store that sold them and we both got a pair of skates. I stuck them in the trunk of my car and I drove to the lake. I helped her ger her skates on, and then I stepped onto the ice. Vanilla held onto my hand and she stepped onto the ice as well. She was able to stand up on the ice okay, but keeping her balance on the ice was a bit harder. I caught her before she fell onto the ice. After a few more tries she was able to keep her balance while skating. Vanilla and I skated around the ice for a while and I watched a small group of random guys slipping and sliding all over the place. "Hey, watch this," I said to Vanilla. I quickly skated past them and on my way by I gave one of the guys' belt a yank, causing him to spin in circles and fall on his butt. All the other guys in the group laughed and he dusted himself off and tried to stand up, but just slipped onto his butt again. I skated back over to the group. "Okay, that was funny but you're going to have a sore bum if you keep falling over," I said, lifting him onto his feet. "Thanks," He replied, dusting himself off. Vanilla and I continued to skate around for a while when she decided she was getting cold. "That was a lot of fun, perhaps we can do it again sometime," Vanilla said. "Maybe. When we get back from our vacation I can see if there's a skating rink in our town." I said. "It's a shame you can only go skating in winter," Vanilla said. "But you can go rollerskating every other season, which is essentially the same thing but with wheels on pavement, and the fact that it would be warm outside," I said. "Oh, I didn't know that. I think that is something Chocola will definitely enjoy." She said. "It does seem like something Chocola would quite enjoy," I said. I helped Vanilla untie her skates and I put my normal boots back on and we hopped back in my car. I turned up the heater and we drove back to the hotel. I took off my shirt and boots and unbolted my mechanical arm and leg, setting them by the bedside table as I lay down in the bed with Vanilla nuzzled up next to me.
